Pathetic. Truly pathetic. Japan's PS3 per-store allotments are rolling in, and they ain't enough to meet the demand in Saitama Prefecture, let alone the entire country. While America is getting 400,000 machines at launch, Japan has been shafted with a measly 80,000.
Just how pathetic? Reader Adam called his local Toys "R" Us in Tokyo, which said it was only getting in 6 of each units, while Kotakuite Brad said the Shinjuku Bic Camera still has no idea how many consoles it is going to get and won't know more until launch.
Our gear-headed brothers at Gizmodo Japan report that Shibuya TSUTAYA is getting 10 consoles. The GEO in Tokyo's Koishikawa says there will be a whooping five consoles for sale on launch day. (I'm number five in line at the GEO in Osaka. Heh.) Giz Japan's Junya Nomura tells us that GEO seemed "really nervous " about the PS3 launch. No wonder!
Giz Japan also provided a helpful round-up (after the jump) of all the Tokyo based retailers, which could very well aid our Japan-based readers in scoring a PLAYSTATION 3. Everyone else, you might be interested to see just how far 80,000 machines can be stretched.
Eds Note: As pointed out in our comments, Japan is getting 100,000 consoles instead of 80,000. So, expect stores to have 7 consoles instead of 5.
