GamePro, the 20-plus-years-old games mag, is no longer a monthly concern. The magazine will go quarterly as of November, changing to "a visually stunning, tactile experience" with "rich, engaging editorial" and bumping up its price. With online video game news coming from powerhouses like IGN, 1UP and Gamespot, can old fashioned glossy print media survive? How can once-monthly publications compete with up to the minute news sources, say, for instance Kotaku, and established gaming media updating throughout the day? That's the focus of the New York Times look at print publishers Ziff Davis Media and Future US, both of whom publish not only on paper, but online as well. <a href="http://kotaku.com/321769/can-print-gaming-media-survive-maybe" title="Click here to read more about Can Print Gaming Media Survive? Wishful thinking or print game journalism's shortcomings? The June issue of Game Informer still refers to the Nintendo Wii as the "Revolution." This is from a monthly glossy that claims to be "The World's #1 Computer & Video Game Magazine." Ehem. Surely, the mag's nimble publishing wheels move fast enough to change stuff like this. The Wii has been named for what, over a month? That's like a year in blog dating. Brian Ashcraft More »
