It’s time for a super-sized episode of Kotaku Splitscreen full of special guests, dating advice, and squid-kid conspiracy theories.
Jason and I start out talking about how much he loves Final Fantasy Tactics on his phone and how impressed I’ve been with the first couple hours of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Then we talk about the news of the week (22:21) including Shadow of War microtransactions, a Pokémon MMO hidden inside Roblox, and a sequel for Dragon Quest Builders.
After that, Jason heads off on vacation while I’m joined by longtime Kotaku advice columnist Harris “Dr. NerdLove” O’Malley (35:43) to talk about dating, pickup artists, and the many ways movies lie to us about love. Finally, I sit down with my fellow Kotaku writers Patricia Hernandez and Gita Jackson to talk about Splatoon 2 (1:19:56)—what it does well, what it does poorly, and what we make of its subtle malevolent undertones.
You can get an MP3 of the episode here, and find Harris O’Malley on his website and on Twitter.
Also don’t forget that we’ll be doing our first-ever Kotaku Splitscreen LIVE event at PAX West in Seattle! The show will be on Friday, September 1st at 8:00pm in the PAX Sasquatch Theatre. More details to come as we draw a little closer, but mark your calendars. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.
