"I love my WinXP, and am not a Microsoft hater...
I think there's too many things out there people has to THANK Microsoft for existing.
Computers as popular household device for starters, and many technologies people don't even know the initial researches were made by Microsoft.
But the RROD case was a major f*ck up, and no one can deny that.
Shure, despite lying and delaying the problem for too long a time, eventually Microsoft assumed they had screwed up and made all necessary arrangements to fix it.
But like I said:
1."
"For some reason, I imagine that, in the dead of night, strange figures start lurking around this building in the shadows, making grunting noises, and you hear random Mac chimes echo in the darkness."
"You know, now that I'm paying more attention to this thing, I see that Apple's also going back on their all-metal design that they touted with the current nano."
"This is no easy question...
It depends.
Merges can save companies from ending, but it can also kill the diversity, specially when both companies have very unique styles.
But depending on how the merge happens, both companies can essencially remain the same, they can mix stuff up to produce good results, or kill each other trying to make generic stuff to please both sides, ending up pleasing none."
