"The thing that eventually sold me on MMOs (subscription-based or not) was a financial analysis of my own habits. I''m the kind of person who will play at least one game a month, given my income and so forth, and considering that games are my primary form of entertainment, as soon as a game has exhausted its welcome I want a new one to play. This, combined with the fact that console titles are becoming more 8-10 hour ventures rather than 80+ (which has partly come from my gradual falling out of love with JRPGs) means that if I want to stay entertained I'm frequently talking about 4 or 5 games a month, something I did for a summer at one point and realized very quickly how financially infeasible it was. At the end of that summer, I picked up Everquest on a lark and ended up playing it for (I assumed) just the free month, since subscription fees are something I don't care much for."
