Bullshot = Bullsh!t Screenshot. It's an industry term for fake screenshots used to hype/market a game. It's not representative of what the game will actually look like, just the general art style.

& @ Enigma. Think of it like this. a straight line at a lower resolution vs. a circle at a lower resolution compared to a high resolution bullshot. Which will look like a larger deviation of perceptible difference. That's what i was referring to.

<![CDATA[string_theory commented on Ninja Gaiden II Outfits Are Out]]> I'm not buying it. Could care less what he looks like, only care about the gameplay.

If some super-hardcore fans buy this, more power to them. It's just their way of showing how much they like the series & hopefully contribute to making any future ones better.

But w/ Itagaki & most of the TEAM NINJA team leaving Tecmo, it's probably a meaningless act.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on Why We May Not Get Decent Trophy Support For A While]]> GTA4 should be getting them considering how many copies it sold.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on PS3 2.40 Update Problems And Solutions]]> @Striderhayasa - Phillyyakk on PSN and Live.: Super Stardust HD is the only game you can use HDD songs I have tried. And it didn't work like how they showed in the demonstration. You don't activate it in the XMB you activate it in the menu; & again, you can only select one song.

The way they presented it & how it actually works aren't the same. That was my point.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on Bastard Thieves Steal PS3 From Disabled Teenager]]> @DarthWind: Sony might care because this story has press. If it didn't have press, you're right they wouldn't. But the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on New inFamous Screens Are Electric]]> @EnigmaNemesis: halo has a very geometric art style. It's not the same thing. & no the halo bullshots do not look the same as the game. but they look closer than this for sure.

3840 x 2160? no. This game will be lucky if it hits 1280 x 720; if other games are an indication it will actually be more like 1024 x 576.

<![CDATA[string_theory commented on New inFamous Screens Are Electric]]> They're BullShots

If you look at the Flickr source shots they're 3840 x 2160 w/ no aliasing & super high res textures. No way it's remotely possible for them to be screenshots.

She knew what she was doing. This is being too lenient.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on Bastard Thieves Steal PS3 From Disabled Teenager]]> That's some despicable behavior.

Technically Sony should be able to track the PS3 if he's registered it. Each one has it's own unique hardware identifier which can be identified by PSN when they log in. The IP address can be identified by the ISP & the local police can investigate from there.

I doubt the thief is going to try to game through proxies.

<![CDATA[string_theory commented on BioWare's MMO About "Options And Choices"]]> BioWare is the only company i can see taking on & even besting BLIZZARD in the MMO realm. If they really have gotten the SW license for a MMO & they do it right it seems very possible they could usurp BLIZZARD as the new definition of MMO.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on Sony Pulls PS3 2.40 Firmware After Reported Problems]]> It didn't brick my system. But none of the touted features work. Well the in game XMB is only good for the clock. The music feature doesn't work at all. Not on any games & I've tested about 10 so far.

It also only seems to be able to select one song at a time, not supporting playlists. Which sucks, who wants to pause their game every 3 mins to change the song.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on PS3 2.40 Update Problems And Solutions]]> Hmm. So what should the people do who dled it last night before they pulled it; but who's systems it hasnt bricked do?

Will they release 2.41 to fix whatever was wrong w/ 2.4. I hope they dont just release it as 2.4 again & make it impossible for people to get the fixed version who already have the busted 2.4.

I'm one of those people. I thought something was screwy, it didnt brick my system but about the only thing that worked was the clock. the in game music feature hasnt worked on ANY of my games. not 1. Just says "this game does not support this feature.". Tried about 10 diff games so far.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on Crytek's CEO: Piracy Threatens PC Exclusivity]]> There are a couple things they can do to get people to stop pirating.

1. Lower the price of the games. Making the value higher & swaying more people who may be on the edge to actually get a legit copy. Since not all people who pirate would have bought the game anyway @$50-60. Is it better to sell 1 million at $50-60 or 3 million at $20-30?

2. Further increase the value of legit copies with post-release community enrichment features. Like a user submitted "map of the week" selected & hosted by the company. AKA regular updates which would be a pain to continue pirating, as each would have to be manually cracked & installed on a regular basis.

The key is to make pirating more of an inconvenience for pirates; because any DRM will be broken. You want it to inconvenience pirates; & provide extra value to legit customers at the same time. Not make the DRM inconvenience legit customers & make life easier on pirates who remove it.

<![CDATA[string_theory commented on New Details On DC Universe Online]]> how they plan to make a PS3 mmo work is beyond me. The Agency is a joke, it's about as much a MMO as Too Human. <![CDATA[string_theory commented on Hirai: "True Generation" PS3 Titles To Come]]> @fuchikoma: How about from SSX to SSX 4 (on tour). not a whole lot of difference there & more than 5 years of PS2 dev experience in between.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on Hirai: "True Generation" PS3 Titles To Come]]> Some1 should really give Sony a copy of "The boy who cried wolf."

Their chest beating should have ended long ago & they should be focusing on fun games instead of technical achievement. The PC has already more than quadrupled the PS3s highest possible rendering ability. & thats even assuming the PS3 was able to utilize 100% parallel computing which is impossible according to Ahmdal's law. Realistically PCs are about 10x more powerful right now than the PS3 will ever accomplish.

So focus on fun Sony & shut it w/ the pissing contest, it's not impressing or fooling anyone. Blu-ray doesnt matter because your console only has 512MB of split memory. No matter how many GB the disc holds the system cant deal w/ more than 512MB between loading screens. streaming doesnt matter because to add something you always have to subtract something else.

<![CDATA[string_theory commented on UFC 2009 Undisputed: Trailer, Details, Screens]]> @Tizlor: Get real. Maybe thats what they teach at the kids karate class at the local Y; but MA has been an official competitive sport since the first Olympic games 648 BC. Ever heard of Pankration?

It was a also a competitive sport well before that as well, just not an documented officiated one.

It's also alive in most schools across the world in different forms. In the U.S. it's wrestling, in Japan it's Judo, in Brazil it's Jiu-Jitsu, in Holland it's kick boxing, in Thailand it's Muay-Thai, in China it's Sambo, in France it's Savat, etc..

Granted in countries like Thailand where fighters start off very young it's not an ideal comparison. Muay-Thai rules are also more lax safteywise. MMA is a very safe sport by comparison. All the potentially serious damaging areas are protected by the rules and the judges are always there to air on the side of caution.

There are also several doctors in attendance & professional stitch men. The possibility of brain damage is also less than a sport like boxing, because the smaller gloves mean an opponent is more likely to be KOed than if the gloves were larger which still provides the same jar to the brain but less stun effect.

It's not like fighters are being FORCED into fighting. Some of you are making it sound like they're being forced to do it to survive, comparing it to roman slaves who had to fight lions for the amusement of Caesar. These guys can be accountants to zoologists if they wanted to. they choose to fight because they LIKE it, it's their passion in life. Nobody goes into a ring because they don't want to fight. Granted they haven't been paid much in history, with the increase in popularity of the sport they're slowly approaching other professional sports in salary; the fighters who could appear on a main card of a show like UFC of Affliction anyway. The real money is in the product endorsement & opening MMA schools though.

Which unfortunately only applies to the top in the sport right now. Unlike football, basketball, soccer, rugby, hockey, etc.. where all players even the worst ones get paid more than generous salaries. It's partly because of the sport being in it's infancy (in this generation/civilization), partly because companies like the UFC tend to be more unequal with their profit sharing due to their near monopolistic hold on the sport, & partly because fighters usually fight only 1-3 times a year due to recovery time (which even if fighters wanted to fight more often, athletic commissions doctors do impart suspensions to prohibit fighters who they consider might have a reoccurring injury to fight w/in a period of time + margin of error)

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on UFC 2009 Undisputed: Trailer, Details, Screens]]> @Shoemaster:
I realize that, but i said it was weird because i cant think of any reason a fighter would spit on another fighter. it doesn't accomplish anything as far as gaining dominant position or winning.

Also btw, saliva is a natural anti-biotic, containing lysozymes (& pain killer). Spitting in a cut actually helps stave off infections. blood actually has a higher chance of transferring an illness. & theres no shortage of swapping blood in most MMA matches.

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on UFC 2009 Undisputed: Trailer, Details, Screens]]> @gblock:
I take it you've never trained martial arts?

If you had you'd know it's more than "people getting beat up for money." Martial arts is just that, an art. If you learn about it you'd understand it's very complicated & a very high level competition. There are rules to keep it safe. There has only been one person who ever died in a MMA match. Compare that to NFL for instance. Yea, doesnt seem so dangerous now does it?

]]>
<![CDATA[string_theory commented on UFC 2009 Undisputed: Trailer, Details, Screens]]> @TOCATL: there are actually a lot of rules.

No putting fingers in any orifice.
No eye gouging
No fish hooking
No ear pulling
No hitting back of the head
No hitting crotch
No kicking/stomping a downed opponent
No kneeing a downed opponent's head
No upkicks to the face
No biting
No spitting (weird 1)
No head butting
No hair pulling

I'm glad THQ got the license. They have a history of wrestling games so they'll probably get it closer to MMA than other devs. But i hope it stays MMA and doesn't become like wresting gameplay.
No hitting the throat
No finger bending
No holding shorts or gloves of opponent
No disobeying a referee's orders
