It'd be like explaining the appeal of breasts to a gay man. You just don't like it - there's nothing to be explained. I sure as fuck can't explain why I'm so drawn to two bags of swelly flesh...
This was probably one of the creepiest things to happen in games in a while, really. Just bad taste. "Here, play a 3DS while looking at this girl's boobs!"

But holy jesus she is smokin'.

And...that is exactly why it takes time for these things to change. So-called "circular logic" just means that it's difficult to break out of the cycle. And indeed, it's difficult to break out of this cycle.
Yep..world's imperfect. Sometime's other people's legitimate reactions results in your feelings being hurt.
Wow..this is simply one of the most impressive comments I've ever read on the internet. Are you like a writer or something? Not being sarcastic.
I will go sit down and smile now.
Did ya play To The Moon?
I also think it's not something that's worth worrying about in the particular context of geek culture. People will be assholes, and when it's something as inconsequential as entertainment, spend your worries elsewhere.
dude i've always been ok with calling every one dude. dude.
Male privilege in the job market, education, marriage, politics, etc. etc., those kinds of male privilege are legitimate issues. Video games and geek culture appealing to men more than women...I give 0 fucks. I'd prefer to just enjoy video games with anyone who loves them as well and not worry about what anyone else thinks. As long as it's not hurting anyone nor impeding anyone else from doing the same.
Oh ok..I interpret "you're down with X" as "you support X." Like, "YOU DOWN WITH OPP?"

But I guess you agree with me that, yes, this article is totally a first world problems article, and it wouldn't be a terrible idea to not worry about it.

If you mean that I hate women, I don't think I ever implied that. I just don't care if a woman doesn't like geeky stuff. And I was referring specifically to sexism in entertainment and leisure activities.

And sure, this whole blog's about first world problems, and I just don't think this one is particularly interesting or entertaining.

Ya know, I am absolutely OK with a subculture being "sexist". I am totally OK with geek culture smelling like a men's locker room. Sure, I don't like the smell all the time, but I'll put up with it sometimes because I love video games. Sports is sexist - it has cheerleaders and it's mostly guys who are really into sports. But there are some girls who are really into it as well, and that's totally fine. Twilight is also sexist - that's OK. Strip clubs are sexist - I'm totally OK with them. So I just don't give a shit really because guess what? All this is ENTERTAINMENT. It's not like a woman trying to get a job or a woman being forced to marry someone she doesn't want to. Complaining about sexism in hobbies in entertainment? Fuck man - that's a first world problem if I ever saw one.
I just don't see what else it could be. Ya know, maybe it's because I try to remove myself from that part of "geek culture" that actually treats women like they're more special than just people. Cuz with me and most of my friends, we all just see geek culture as a thing that's there, and if you like it, great, and if you don't, whatever let's talk about something else. When a girl tells me she's not into video games, I don't think "Oh you don't get it because you're a girl" I just think "oh you don't like it because you are a person and people have different tastes in things."

So I guess if you actually have friends that are sexist...then OK maybe this applies to you and your friends. I mean there are assholes everywhere in the world.

That's not really necessary though. Just find a GF who tolerates your geekiness, but loves you for other reasons. You two don't have to have the exact same hobbies.
This is dumb. Why do geeks care so much about getting girls to like their hobbies? Look, it's OK if your girlfriend doesn't like video games or whatever. That is only one aspect of who you are...right? You are a whole human being, and there are other reasons why a girl would love you...right? Girls are human, too. They can like and dislike things as well. Just don't be an asshole, stop worrying so much, and we'll be just fine.
Hmm this is a pretty good description. It's all about slowing down and having discipline. Once you figure out the way to go through a level, you can get through it faster and faster as you develop more and more tricks for it. I found this process of learning to be a lot of fun. Not for everyone, for sure.
I have...no idea what this game will be like. Consider me curiousified.
Is "Total Recall" a regular series on Kotaku? Cuz I like it!
