Kotaku, the Gamer’s Guide

I think it's ugly too. That camera on the front is a real eye sore to me.

Last 3 weeks of sales for 360 vs PS3 in Japan (according to MC):

9/8 - 9/14
360: 28,188
PS3: 8,053

9/15 - 9/21
360: 13,777
PS3: 8,156

9/16 - 9/22
360: 11,291
PS3: 8,275

So despite the huge price cut and desirable JRPG's the 360 sales numbers are dropping fairly quickly. The PS3 is keeping steady and actually increasing a bit week by week.

360 sales should pick up again with the release of The Last Remnant, especially with the bundles. Then again, TGS is right around the corner and Sony may do some massive damage.

This looks really nice. I feel bad that I haven't played a Star Ocean game yet :(

You missed his point. He is obviously pointing at the wording of Kotaku's article that MS "Beat Sony". They beat the PS3 and PS2 for the month, but not Sony in the general sense.

Of couse we all can assume what Mcwhertor was trying to imply

Anyone who thinks Koller is saying ONLY 12 year olds own the DS isn't very intelligent and from the looks of things there are a lot of unintellgent commenters here on Kotaku.

It's sad to see this :(

Do yourself a favor and research. Look at the average ages and question why Koller brought that up. He wasn't attacking Nintendo. It's amazing that people say he is spewing hate at Nintendo when he praised them for their success.

If you don't think what Koller mentioned is a concern to Nintendo themselves then you are not in touch with reality.

I think so many people are inferring that this guy thinks ONLY 12 year olds buy it. Only an idiot would interpret what he said as that. He is saying that a good percentage of the DS user base averages out at 12 years old. Look at the data from this recent Kotaku article: [kotaku.com]

The highest came from 10-12 year old boys, the 3rd highest from 10-12 year girls. If you average it all out, I imagine the average demographic for the DS install base would fall in the range of 12-15.

Basically Koller is azking whether they can expand that average. I don't see that as an attack at all. It's the same comment about whether Sony can expand their install base to a younger crowd since the average PSP demographic is around 20-25.

The sad thing is, Gizmodo thinks this is a real Sega product, as opposed to the millions of other Chinese knockoffs that just use an official brand name. Look at the damn thing, it's a cheap knock off with a Sega brand.

I honestly think the DSi is the most uneeded productI've seen in years. The DS Lite was needed because Nintendo was actually losing a bit of steam to the PSP, but with the DS lite they dominated.

Everything about the DSi could be accomplished with a DS lite and additional accessories if they wanted to do so. Well aside from the quarter inch of extra screen. It gets worse battery life and it costs more. That's hardly an improvement.

I can't imagine having a DS Phat and not being tempted by the DS lite. It is eons better in terms of aesthetics, form, and function. If I owned a Phat, I'd get rid of it and order a DS Lite the day it came out.

I'll be honest, the number one reason I didn't buy a 360 years ago and still till this day is the RROD. I also didn't like the way Microsoft was dishonest about it at first, denying it even existed.

It's a sequel. Obviously there are fans of the first who have bought into the game and its development team and have good faith that the game will be good. For a fan $10 really isn't that much.

This feels like a complete Bait and Switch to me. I bet there are a lot of people who pre-ordered the game and don't check out sites like this to know how much their purchase has been gimped.

Unless I've missed it, not one person so far has commented on what Crecente and Mcwhertor are talking about but rather that they're doing a video podcast. I think that's sort of unfortunate since the whole purpose of a video podcast is to create commentary, not just "Ohhh Awesome Team Fortress!!111"

I agree with Crecente that the commenter's should be the one to comment on Jack Thompson's statements and that Kotaku did very little wrong in being the messenger. I don't relate what JT says to rumors from a site with no credibility as Mchwertor suggests. I think JT created his own persona and while in his mind he thought he was doing the right thing, the way he went about it was completely wrong.

I don't think you can truly point the finger at Kotaku with the whole JT mess. Even if Kotaku didn't post a single article about JT, he would have still gotten himself in trouble with the law. Additionally other news outlets would still cover him and who knows, perhaps some out there would support his baseless claims. I think places like Kotaku give a good balance to mainstream new sources where the voice of gamers would otherwise go unheard.

As much as I love Solid Abe, I'd have to give my vote to the Link one. They put so much work into it. It'd feel so wrong if the single penny one beat out the others.
