<![CDATA[Comments from snowlock]]> <![CDATA[Comments from snowlock]]> <![CDATA[snowlock commented on Play Defender In The Weirdest Location]]> Wow, that's bonkers.
fairly amazing, but completely bonkers.

ps i use firefox and had to turn off "search for text when i start typing,"
because otherwise pressing N was not working to start the game.

it does bring back what small memory i have retained from many years back.
defender for the 2600 was probably the game i played the most on that console.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Don't Be Surprised If There Are RE5 Controls Surprises]]> i thought resident evil 4 controls were pretty much superb.
it was easier than in ANY other game, for me, to make precise shots.
over-the-shoulder camera with relative controls similar to other resident evil
kept it closer to the franchise standards, and quick 180 was the icing on it.

then i was even less of a shooter fan than i am now,
so maybe one could take that into account.
still, i had played plenty of shooting games, just never got deep into many.

strafe would likely ruin this game, unless the entire gameplay system is redone.
there is no reason to overhaul a great formula to fit the mold of popular titles.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Geometry Wars 2 Coming Next Month, Pass The Time With These Screens]]> battle mode in guitar hero 3 was the most game-like part.
this is coming from someone who refused to play guitar hero,
until forced into playing part 3 when it was brought over.
it was ridiculous fun, and the boss battles were a highlight.
bought it shortly after.

as far as geometry wars retro evolved 2 goes...
worst part is that the wii version of geometry wars galaxies, more than likely,
will no longer be the best version of geometry wars once they release this.

game looks cool, though.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Xbox Live Reinvented This Fall - Adds Avatars, Live Party]]> none of these things make it worth subscription fees.

let's assume, however, the new features did make it worth the fees.
that still doesn't change the fact that online play is free Everywhere else.

i'll say it again: never did get to own an orignal xbox though it was great.
thought 360 could be my first xbox console,
but microsoft stuck with their "last-gen" wired fee-based online.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Clone Wars On Wii: Wagglesabers]]> @Aethyr: hah! you tried it?

seriously, i went and tried it and i definitely see what you mean.
there's a delay between when you start moving the remote and when the bat moves.

unless it's input lag from the tv, which i doubt.
especially since once you get it moving it responds well.

it still doesn't negate the idea i posted above,
considering how the swings themselves and their angles are the important part.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Clone Wars On Wii: Wagglesabers]]> kinda off topic, sorry

@JokesJokes:
the few pics i've seen of this new cg cartoon look like cg versions of the old one.
i kinda doubt anyone from that crew was involved, but it would be awesome.

i thought the original genndy tartakovsky clone wars cartoons were great.
i watched it before seeing revenge of the sith, and i'm glad i did.
general grievous is such a bad-ass in the cartoons,
until mace windu force-crushes him and sets him up to chump out in the movie.
there are a couple of other ways the cartoon fits into the story-arc,
but this probably isn't the place to discuss all of that.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Clone Wars On Wii: Wagglesabers]]> @Green-clad Gamer Dude: i understand all that, but i still think it would work.
as evidence i submit the aforementioned bat-swinging in wii sports baseball.

if you twirl the remote like a batter does, the bat moves like that.
you can do a "call your shot," but you can't quite knock the dirt off your cleats.
it assumes you're holding the remote a specific way,
and maps the on-screen actions to what the remote should be doing.
the game only has, like, one animation for the swing,
but add in a few different animations for different swing angles and it's a win.

i dunno, that's the way i see it.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Clone Wars On Wii: Wagglesabers]]> @Aethyr: wii-mote is already sensitive enough

1:1 would be no fun

that's the thing people don't realize, plus it rhymes!

keep in mind, however, i don't condone waggle-fests like the above post implies.

someone commented the following before, but i agreed so:
it should be 1:1 while you "freestyle" then trigger canned animations for attacks.
something like the way it works in wii sports baseball,
except in a competent game instead of the lamest 1/5 of a disc.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Nintendo Promises Announcements For "Core Gamers" At E3]]> @BtownDesignGuy: since you asked, i'll list. they're on my shelf in purchase order.

wii sports, it counts and is the only game i've played multiplayer more than once
zelda twilight princess, which was a great zelda game for me
red steel, which i thought was mediocre at best
metroid prime 3, which models how i think first person games should control
sonic and the secret rings, which is the first sonic i've played since sonic&knuckles
super mario galaxy, which is a 10/10 for me
guitar hero 3, because i finally caved in when its fun was forced upon me
no more heroes, nuff said
smash bros brawl, because i should be good at it but i'm not
geometry wars galaxies, because i like to pretend to be hxc sometimes
trauma center: new blood, because those games are hxc in disguise
mario kart wii, because mk:wii means mortal kombat wii to me and sucks

bolded titles are the ones i call great wii games.
fuck with secret rings all you want, it was loads of fun;
plus i plan to go back and get all the upgrades or whatever and i'm no completionist.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Nintendo Promises Announcements For "Core Gamers" At E3]]> only going to say this once on kotaku:

i've been playing games for at least 20 of my 25 years,
and i consider gaming to be a vital part of my recreational lifestyle.
that's enough of me trying to fit into "core gamer" mold.

i have 12 games for my wii, and 10 out of those are what i call great wii games.
that means 10 wii-exclusive games i enjoyed the hell out of.
i just got a ps3, and don't ever plan on getting a 360.
i can't think of 12 games i'd buy for either, much less 10 exclusive titles.

regular "hardcore" elitist gamer kids are who i expect to spread the myth
that there are no good games for the wii, not kotaku writers.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Sony Working On Breakapart Motion Controller]]> @elementary: "Motion sensing aside, I love playing with my hands spread apart."

this is why i consider wii-mote and nunchuk the most ergonomic controller ever.
i can literally lie down with one hand on the bed and the other on my head.

after first playing wii and thinking about the sixiaxis,
friends and i agreed that something like this would be near-perfection.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Battery Packs Cause Wii Wheel Alignment Issues?]]> eh...
wheel was awful for me anyway.
wii-mote turned to vertical needed to turn the kart as sharp as possible.
it didn't, so i switched to nunchuk style.

plus, i got a regular battery charger and rechargables for about $25 immediately.
there were no "charging station" sets available (that i saw) when i got my wii.
works great and i can use the charger for many sizes of batteries.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Nyko's Wireless Nunchuk Attracts Nintendo Lawsuit]]> @Spacehog85: that might just be it.

i figured this would be about there being no wrist strap or something small.
nintendo should stfu about this for sure;
there's no reason third party hardware shouldn't look the same as theirs.

<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Wal-Mart Offers $100 Gift Card on All PS3 Purchases This Week]]> personal walmart/ps3 situation update:

i will never talk shit about walmart employees again.
well, not for a while at least.

the closest walmart had 4 bundles, and i was 5th in line.
after hanging around to make sure no one's card was declined,
the guy at the counter called a couple more local walmarts.
one had 6 of their 8 bundles remeaining.
hauled ass there and got one of the remaining two.

metal gear solid Looks great, but thusfar there's more watching than playing.

all 5 purchases i witnessed, including my own, got a $100 gift card.
mine's still got lots of money on it, since all i got was an hdmi cable.
and a vault.
=D

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Wal-Mart Offers $100 Gift Card on All PS3 Purchases This Week]]> @JoBo: psh, you called walmart?

you're lucky they actually pretended to answer, instead of berating you for wasting thier time.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Wal-Mart Offers $100 Gift Card on All PS3 Purchases This Week]]> sounds like a good deal to me.
think walmart will sell the metal gear bundles at midnight tonight?

also, no way i'd trade in my wii for anything.
especially not for another console.
then again, i wouldn't trade gamestop a nickel for a quarter.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Sid Meier Won't Turn His Back On Wii]]> @broomperson: @CockroachMan: rest your arm on a desk, the arm of a chair, or your leg like a real wii gamer.

the wii provides a fast accurate pointer, and everyone can agree on that.
it would, therefore, be the best console for a pointer-based game.
i would only buy a console version of civilization if it were on wii.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Microsoft "Not Happy" With Overcrowded LIVE]]> psh

subscription fees they charge for the service should cover costs to keep stuff up.
no excuses.
since they really need to prove why live gold is worth money,
when online play and the ability to download stuff is free elsewhere.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Guitar Hero: Metallica Doesn't Affect Rock Band's Plans]]> "fuck you lars, it's our music too!"

sorry for double post, enter apparently=/=return up there

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Guitar Hero: Metallica Doesn't Affect Rock Band's Plans]]> "If they are, I think we know who to blame. Lars."

reminds me of a quote from hecklers when they sued napster.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on PS3 Guitar Hero Gets Free God Of War Song]]> @suppaman:

you don't happen to know how what size sd card my 16gb zen supports, do you?
heh

srsly it would be cool for them to add an hdd to the wii, but i don't see it happening.
if they can do that, they should be able to add more.
like a dock to plug the whole thing into that lets it put out hd resolution and stuff.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on PS3 Guitar Hero Gets Free God Of War Song]]> @Grey Gecko: inorite.
just not on my wii.
heh

i wouldn't care about a free zelda theme, although it would be very cool.
i'd be looking to throw my money away on the deftones track they have on there.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on FINALLY, Beer Pong Comes To WiiWare]]> great, now a game i didn't care about and would have never played
suddenly becomes a Video game i don't care about and might play.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Itagaki Rags On Ninja Gaiden Sigma]]> @Terance: sigma is silly?

i know more than one person that would have never played any of these games,
if not for the the fact they released a ps3 iteration of it called sigma.

that's the opposite of silly.
it means more sales, more exposure and more valid opinions.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on PS3 Guitar Hero Gets Free God Of War Song]]> @Grey Gecko:
doesn't wii probably support 32gb sd cards?
honestly, how big can guitar hero tracks be?
i wouldn't think you'd need an hdd for them.

somebody's just too lazy to enable dlc for the wii.
probably nintendo themselves.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Itagaki Rags On Ninja Gaiden Sigma]]> guess i'll never get to play ninja gaiden 2, then.
OH wait, i don't believe hollow threats from people whose companies like money.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on MGS4 Limited Edition "Gun]]> sorry for the double post.

excuse me for Gettin Laid for a change, because they took all pre-orders
at my local location of play n trade; guess circuit city it is.

i called (or went in) play n trade once a week every week for nearly two months,
every time asking about the 80gb bundle and when to pre-order it.
i call just then and they "took all they pre-orders" all ready,
and they don't know when because he said "last week or the other week."

i miss two weeks and the shit gets snatched up.
still never going to gamestop again, so i guess that means
video game stores are pretty much dead to me now.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on MGS4 Limited Edition "Gun]]> @henhowc:thanks.

i had been asking for weeks on end, turning to months
at game stores about pre-ordering the 80gb bundle.
they had nothing whatsoever to say.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on MGS4 Limited Edition "Gun]]> ...

so you could, at least at one point, pre-order this highly limited edition.
still no word on pre-ordering the regular 80gb metal gear bundle.

wtf, sony?

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Capcom Remind Us How Awesome SFII GI Joe Figures Were]]> i didn't remember that until i saw it just now.
wanted those things but never got any.
first big case of nostalgia i've gotten from kotaku.
=D

to the mispronunciation hatred: this is years later so maybe try and be subjective.
the first game was something like 1992, so i was very young when this aired.
when i was 10-12 "Ryu" was definitely to be pronounced just like they say in the ad.
considering how that's the target demographic, they nailed it by saying it like that.
it wasn't until many years later that i heard someone correct anyone,
and there are surely still people who are far from ignorant who say it that way.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Your GameStop "Reservation" For GTA IV May Be Meaningless]]> this is just another in a long line of consumer-unfriendly policies at gamestop.

someone i know who they recently tried to sell an open game as new tried again. second new game purchase in a row for him they tried to sell him an open item.
both times they had the last copy excuse, and used the display case for it.
neither time did they tell anything him before the transaction took place.

before i get on a rant, let me just say i took my last trip to gamestop sunday.
mario kart preorder they tricked me into by saying i'd get a free wii wheel.
they didn't have anything to say when i asked for the extra one they'd promised.

here, it's play n trade ftw.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Everybody's Nintendo Channel Broadcasting On U.S. Wiis Next Month]]> @Yetanotheruninspiredscreename:
of course i didn't know that, since you took this long to tell me.

still, why didn't they just fall into order without me having to fiddle with them.
i have pretty much downloaded them in the order i wanted them to appear anyway.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on 18% Of Consumers Bought HDTV For HD Gaming]]> gaming was definitely the my reason for buying an hdtv.
32" samsung, and i think the tv is pretty damn great.

of course, the only hd content i have right now (of my own) is from this laptop.
the wii doest look great in progressive widescreen,
but i can't wait until june when i can finally buy the ps3 that the tv was meant for.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Everybody's Nintendo Channel Broadcasting On U.S. Wiis Next Month]]> speaking of channel space...
why do i have an empty on on my wii menu?
no matter what channel i add, or virtual console title i download, nothing goes there.

it's the slot right under the photo channel, and it still irks me to this day.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Burnout Paradise To Introduce Motorcycles, Night, General Bad Assness]]> wtf

just when i thought i could avoid getting this game,
i have to add another heap of cash to the ps3 fund.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Lars Ulrich Ponders Guitar Hero Signing Coolness]]> that's cool that he recognizes the impact the games are having and all.
still, the only thing i can think about are press conferences about napster.

"fuck you lars, it's our music too!"

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Wii Owners Don't Buy Games]]> no way i'm reading all these comments...

i have spent twice as much on wii games as i spent on my wii.
save for one title that is mediocre, i think they're all great games.

that is all.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Club Nintendo SNES Controller Unboxed]]> whoa, that's pretty damn awesome if you ask me.

however it always seemed obvious classic controller was modeled off of the snes pad.
i'm guessing the triggers on it are analog, to make for the wii-game playing.
that would make sense for a reason why it isn't exactly like this controller.

]]>
<![CDATA[snowlock commented on Portable Gamer Meet Up Places...]]> yeah, all the mcdonalds here have wifi; borders and barnes and noble have it too.
here's the thing, when i went to try it out at these places, the browser is redirected.
"wtf?" it loads a page basically asking me to pay for the wifi access.

i have a big problem with that, considering how all the taco bells and krystals,
which probably make far less money, have free wifi in their locations.
judging by your average public wifi, the crap is worth zero dollars ($0.)

also, i've been the only one with a gaming device every time i've ever been.

]]>
