<![CDATA[Comments from sir_carrot]]> <![CDATA[Comments from sir_carrot]]> <![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Hasbro Sues Over Scrabulous Facebook Game]]> Shit. With the muscle behind EA, I guess there goes our Scrabulous. I'd sort of hoped it had just all blown over after the first legal threats, but no such luck.

Thing is, Scrabulous extends beyond Facebook - they have their own website, community - and the best part - e-mail Scrabulous without login for those that don't want to bother with any strings.

My mother - who has no interest in digital gaming at all - has become flat-out addicted to this game. I showed it to her some time before Hasbro started making noises and since then she plays nearly every day with a friend of hers.

The Scrabulous design is near flawless, I can't imagine the EA version being anything but a convoluted mess and wouldn't be surprised if they tried to start charging somewhere along the line. It's too bad, I was just beginning to warm up EA but this begins to put them back in the seat of greedy-bastard. Gr.

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Dead Space: The Cartoon: The Trailer]]> For a moment I thought it was a mock-trailer - similar to the Street Fighter IV short. Which made me really dig the cheesy voicing and over dramatics. Realizing it's an actual feature, I'm not sure how it's going to turn out.

The animation is great - it's always refreshing to see American animation that doesn't cater to children, like Heavy Metal or the Venture Bros.

I'll probably give it a look, likely not a buy.

@TRT-X: I think you hit a major point here. System Shock 2 which followed a similar concept as Dead Space - lone survivor on a ship infested with crew-member-become-monster types - had an incredible feeling of tension as you unraveled what had happened. It worked because your character had no memory of the events. However, looks like EA is taking a different approach and going for more of the visceral scare in their game - so having their backstory animation probably won't damage the game plotting too extensively.

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on The Character Creation Undergarments of SoulCalibur IV]]> Whatever. Just because the developers keeps implementing all these digital cocktease elements, doesn't mean it's going to be any less fun as an entry in the Soul series.

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Epic Preps Unreal Engine 4 For "Next Console Generation"]]> Wow. I'll be in my thirties by then.

I wonder if that's how long I'll have to wait for Unreal 3?

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Mega Man 9's Retro Art Stylings]]> Okay. That is rather neat.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Koji Igarashi Tries To Explain Castlevania Judgement Hate]]> I think typically these sort of games, when coming from a major franchise, rarely prove to be any good.

Hence all the fan worry and wishing he'd 'get back to it.'

But. If he actually manages to make this game good... well.

That would be nice. It's just hard to imagine anything but 'glub glub glub.'

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Peek At Comic-Con 08's Big Gaming Booths]]> For a moment I thought that said, 'Big Gaming Boobs.' Still, I guess at comic con, you might be seeing something like that around.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Molyneux Is Sorry For Denis Dyack]]> Heh.

I don't know, Too Human didn't do it for me.

It's nice that Molyneux is defending it, but the difference between Molyneux and Dyack - is charm and humbleness. Two things Dyack exudes the opposite of when he talks about his game.

Dyack feels like the modern Romero lately.

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Xbox Live Makes Horror Funny This Fall]]> Haha. And here I was just in the process of mailing this to tips.

Anyhow, will be watching these - they might be good.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on What Is Atlus Teasing With This Teaser Ad?]]> @sir_carrot: Persona 4. I meant Persona 4. I guess that would be obvious though.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on What Is Atlus Teasing With This Teaser Ad?]]> The people on those boards seem to think it's going to be Devil Summoner 2 - the series with Raidou.

I personally don't mind as long as it's next gen SMT - I mean, I'm almost more excited for Persona 3 on PS2 than any next-gen games, but the prospect of a Next-Gen SMT... oh man.

More likely though, we'll see a PS2/Wii entry for Devil Summoner 2.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Things We Wish We'd Seen At E3, But Didn't]]> Man. Reading this, it almost seems inexplicable why the trade show didn't go this way.

Although I would have liked to see, also, 'Dead Rising 2 now back under the original, in-house development team.'

In a fantasy world.

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Itagaki Didn't Leave Tecmo, He Was Fired]]> The latest Itagaki post is down, but I'd just like to say - and I'm not sure why - but I'm in full support of Itagaki here.

Go on, sir!

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Famitsu Boss Says PS3 Penetration Will Accelerate]]> Yeah, but some people just aren't down with the accelerated penetration unless there's backward compatibility.

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Hands-On With Fable II, Molyneux's "Biggest" Game]]> One of my friends picked up a copy of Fable: TLC for me around my birthday. I hadn't played the game in ages - but man.

I forgot how fun it was. It might not have lived up to all the hype, but it was entertaining and full of charm and style, with an entertaining gameplay system to boot. The only thing that was disappointing was the story.

Honestly. This will be a GREAT game. Just don't get all snubby if it's not the second coming or something.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Sony's "Fat Princess" Makes Internet Upset]]> But. But.

The guy loves his Princess anyway. It doesn't matter that she's gained a gazillion pounds, he's still doing all he can to save her.

That's some high and mighty love, man.

Just see if you can find many people in the real world that would go through something like that.

They should be praising it for the non-materialistic tapestry of romance going on here.

Sheesh.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on The E3 No Shows: Why They Weren't There]]> How much hate would it rain down on me to say 'FFVII remake'?

I've been hoping for that every E3 way back since they were going to remake VII and VIII for PS2 before 'the Spirits Within' tanked.

At the least, it would have been a good counter for Sony to the announcement of XIII going multi-platform.

Oh well.

Looking forward to most of the no-shows. Been craving a good Aliens shooter since the last AVP game. Gearbox development sounds good to me.

And Alan Wake... oh Alan Wake.

What are those employees doing? Just got back from vacationing? On what money? It seems rather relaxed for such a phantom title and little other recent activity from the company. Maybe they're entitled to some money from the Max Payne film... unlikely?

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Dragon Age: Origins Gameplay: Our E3 Preview In Just Three Minutes]]> Oh wow. That looks and plays nothing like I thought I would.

I was expecting... uhm.

Anyway.

Impressive video in some ways. Has the look of your average MMO at first glance - and then they pull back the camera and it looks like a very modern Baldur's Gate. The level of detail is impressive - from the enemy turning to look at the other character when they pull the bulk of the damage, to the cinematic kill.

Just. Was expecting something very different.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Halo Wars Is In Control]]> @usfslacker: Funny thing - Bungie originally was developing Halo as an RTS. And then they went all FPS blockbuster with it.

Though I guess, as your post implies, your average Halo fan isn't going to know or expect this intersection.

As with any huge franchise, there's going to be people picking up whatever is on the shelf with the name slapped on it - your 'mainstream' or 'casual' market if you will - but I think most, even casual gamers, would pick up the box - look at it - and say - hey. This isn't a shooter. This is something else. It would have to have incredibly ass-backward marketing and package design to not convey that fact.

If someone is buying a game for themselves and doesn't have any idea even what genre it is... well, then I consider that their fault.

And if Nintendo decided to produce an RTS title in the Mario universe... you can bet it would be unique and innovative. Not a Warcraft clone. Nintendo is the sort of developer that can make incredible titles in genres you would never associate with a certain mythos. They modify the perceived 'rules' of that type of game - they did it both with the RPG and fighting genre, and look how those turned out (Smash, the various Mario RPGs, etc).

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Halo Wars Is In Control]]> Looks like we'll finally get a chance to play Halo as Bungie first intended it.

Except... this isn't designed by Bungie, is it. Then again. I did spend a lot of childhood hours on the first Age of Empires.

I'm not sure. It's been a while since I've been wooed by RTS - turn based gameplay kind of stole the tactical division of my heart.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, like always.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Rounding Up Sony's E3 Presser Announcements]]> Bwah. Fucking Sony.

I would buy a PS3 if I could find one with BC.

But nooo. Sony doesn't want to produce more than a handful of consoles with BC.

I want a PS3 primarily for two things - to phase out my dying PS2 and for blu-ray.

Lame and lame.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Red Faction: Guerrilla Rhino Packs, Destruction and 360 Avatars]]> Hahahaha. Like everyone else has said, awesome quote.

I'm really happy to hear favorable impressions about this one - I've been really fond of this series' past iterations.

I was hesitant about the change to third person and the bland color scheme of the environments (though Mars isn't the most lushly diverse planet to work with), but I think it might transcend all that.

Looking forward to seeing more on this.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented]]> @SatansBestBuddy: That uh. That's about right.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Res 5 Producer Tries To Close The Book On Racism Claims]]> The whole thing felt incredibly disproportionate and overblown.

Still, there will always be people eager to throw fingers.

Matters of race are a very sensitive, often explosive topic where it seems there are no easy answers and once you get in, it seems pretty hard to ply yourself back out.

Is it better to steer clear, or plunge straight into the heart of the matter? And that is?

I'm not sure. Kindness and respect between one another may be a place to start, but when you apply that kind of logic to the sort of video game where a main general objective is to kill your enemies and keep them from killing you... everything begins to get a little foggy.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Dragon Age: Origins Impressions Of No Dragons]]> Hmm. I would really like to see this in action.

Anyway, it's mostly irrelevant for me - won't have a PC to run this in a millennium.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Dead Rising Wii Is Official, Brilliantly Renamed]]> Sounds like 'Dead Rising: Lite' to me.

What gives?

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on The Force Unleashed: Epic Moments And Mindless Slaughter]]> Nice to hear a truly favorable impression of this game.

A lot have seemed hesitant so far.

Maybe afraid if they praise it before launch it will jinx it?

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Infinite Undiscovery: Jogging For A Long, Long Time]]> @BassForever: Squeenix RPGs, she said.

Starting to feel like the only one unimpressed by Tales of Vesperia demo...

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Infinite Undiscovery: Jogging For A Long, Long Time]]> Looks snazzy. It's been a while since a JRPG with real-time combat has managed to hold my attention.

Loved FFXII's battle system, and since this seems much like a real-time version of that, holding out hope.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Silent Hill: Homecoming Hands On With The Pipemaster]]> Sigh.

This series needs a reboot.

I'm not sure what that would look like, but slowly I'm thinking - not like this.

So much disappointment. My favorite gaming series looks to be taking a step off the precipice.

Still holding out a smidgen of hope, but not much from the sound of the way things are going.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Using The Force In Soul Calibur IV]]> Sounds like exactly what I want.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Rise Of The Argonauts: Not Mything A Beat]]> @AndrewDB - first comment: Nailed it.

Not too sure on the visuals and the combat system could be an entertaining skill fest, or a horrid clusterfuck of poor design and control.

Hoping for the former.

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Dead Rising Wii Screens: Where Did All The Zombies Go?]]> @Billkwando: Thing is, the game was never about the guns. In fact, all the guns, except the one on the back of the Jeep, and maybe the special forces guns - sucked. The handgun? Pea shooter. Worthless against mobs of zombies.

There was also the Mega Man gun, but... you know. That was different.

It's far more about the random melee. Not sure how that's going to work out with this perspective, considering RE4 wasn't really... about... melee...

]]>
<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on Dead Rising Wii Screens: Where Did All The Zombies Go?]]> Guh. I was hoping that the Wii version would kick ass in Japan, and therefore make Capcom more interested in doing more in-house Dead Rising sequel development.

But this looks like a cluster-fuck mess. First they take out the photography (which seems perfect on a Wii) and then it looks like shit, and can display hardly any enemies on screen...

Why didn't they just port it to the PS3 if they're porting it? That would have made gobs of money in Japan and doesn't seem it would have been too hard to do or to change too much.

BLUH. CAPCOM. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING.

<![CDATA[sir_carrot commented on One Really, Really Long Assed PSP Game]]> Huh. I think I remember the first one getting a scathing review for lacking depth, particularly in the bland story department.

So... this one will be good, then? I very much enjoyed the story for XII. So... hm.

I'll wait a bit before I get any sort of excitement.
