mva5580 commented on BioWare Backs Down From Draconian Mass Effect Authentication I'm getting sick and tired of this consumer outcry against PC copy protection.

You all bitch and moan that PC games are going downhill and that nothing comes out anymore, and then you bitch and moan some more when these companies try to prevent morons from downloading games for free.

As usual people can never be satisfied. As much as I love PC gaming, at this point I'd almost just like to see it go away completely so people can see what it's like without it rather than just have these things in place to at least attempt in lowering piracy.

It's funny how people who don't do anything wrong have no problems with these copy protection schemes. They don't bother me a bit.

mva5580 commented on Microsoft Expects Big Xbox Live Surge From GTA IV I haven't tried my copy online yet. Is it as good as it sounds in theory?

My only (potential) issue with GTA online I don't really think the movement in the game is very conducive to great shoot-out type moments. Nikko isn't exactly nimble with his movements and it seems like deaths would occur more by car than anything, or snipers in good position. Fights on foot seem like they would be underwhelming. But hey if I'm wrong, that's great. I plead ignorance because I just haven't tried it yet.

mva5580 commented on Zelnick "Vindicated" by GTA IV Performance EA is holding all the cards here. Take 2 has had GTA long before this who buy-out thing started and yet they're still in this situation of being potentially purchased by another company. Zelnick wanted to wait until GTA IV shipped and that's fine, but the fact is this will wear off and Take 2 will then be in the situation of waiting another few years for the next GTA game.

They don't have enough outside of GTA to keep going, and they know it. At this point this isn't even about saying yes or no, it's haggling over price. I would say this is done and over with by June 1st.

mva5580 commented on No Madden 09 On PC? Blame Pirates The pathetic thing about it is that Madden on PC was probably not even a game that was pirated that much. We all know that sports games are not insanely popular on PC to begin with so I just can't imagine that piracy made this gigantic dent in sales like EA Sports wants people to think.

If anything EA has been looking for years to get out of PC Sports games, and this is the year they just decided to do it. Moore has already said that there are other games in the EA Sports line that won't be coming out on PC this year, so I would expect to also see cancellation announcements for NBA Live, NHL, and maybe Tiger Woods. If anything Tiger and FIFA will probably be the only 2 games released because FIFA is of course huge worldwide and PC golf has always been pretty popular.

What's also funny is that Madden on PC last year was flat out the best version of Madden available. YES it still had the PS2 engine in terms of graphics but it by far had the most features, best AI, and overall package. Which brings us back to the real reason these games are being canceled, they just don't sell enough.

I love PC gaming, and I enjoy sports games. But I'm not oblivious to the fact that sports games on the PC do not sell well and there has to be very diminishing returns on making that particular game. If EA Sports really thinks that's the reason, then they should just come out and say it instead of using piracy as a convenient excuse. I mean are you seriously going to expect me to believe that you're cancelling Madden, NBA Live, NHL, and whatever else ALL because of piracy? Give me a break. You might as well cancel every game you develop then outside of The Sims, Civilization, and (presumably) Spore, because those are the only games you publish that will sell a lot.

It's a legitimate excuse that piracy is hurting the PC industry, because any RATIONAL person obviously knows that's true. It's too easy for people to pirate on PC, and anyone with a lot of gray area in their morals are going to find a way to justify downloading something for free that they would normally have to pay for. And if you don't think it would be the EXACT same situation if piracy was as easy to do on consoles, you're pretty delusional. And to me it's only a matter of time before that happens. What was a big culprit in the demise of the Dreamcast? Piracy. It was incredibly easy to play backup DC games.

All of you people who try to brush off piracy as just this little thing that doesn't have much of a dent in this industry are, well I don't have a word for what you are. Because "stupid" is way too kind. It's tearing apart PC gaming, and like I said it's only a matter of time before console gaming gets hit in the same way.

mva5580 commented on Rockstar Support: No GTA Freeze Fix in Sight YES I knew the Interwebs would find a problem with the game, and hey it only took under 8 hours for it to happen.

Seriously though, this era cracks me up. Even just 5 years ago, and obviously beyond that, we'd never know about these problems or it would take a month or so to hear about them in EGM. But now it's just this instant 24/7/365 ability to have information spread rapidly, and put the fear into people. We've already seen it in these comments, people saying they wouldn't buy the game at launch because of worrying about problems with the game.

mva5580 commented on EA: We're After More Than "Game Of The Year" GTA IV Oh man.

So yesterday I went into Gamecrazy, and after the following conversation was overheard I really wish I didn't.

A couple of real overachievers in life were at the counter talking to the clerk who clearly A) can not POSSIBLY make more than near-minimum wage, and B) most likely had not showered in oh, I'd say about a month.

Anyway the guys ask him about EA buying Take 2 and the clerk says "Yeah it's already happened behind the scenes, but they haven't announced it yet. From what I heard, it's already happened." Then the 2 whiz kids, (and actually they were closer to adults than kids, which is even sadder) gaze upon him just looking for some more incredible nuggets of information, and he throws this one at them: "And also from what I've heard Rockstar does not want to be in a big corporation, so Rockstar will probably disband and that will be the end of the GTA series."

And these 2 freaking guys respond to that as if they totally believe him and it's as good as happened already. I swear to God, I haven't gotten the opportunity to see a lot of this video game store stupidity that people talk about, but after I heard the end of that conversation I just walked out and I don't know if I can ever go in that store again.
