That's probably not far off. Dollars to donuts its something for the consoles.

As much as I'd love WC4, that's not very likely with SC2 coming. In fact, if you love Blizzard RTSs, I'd start loving Starcraft, if I were you. I don't think WC4 will ever happen.

<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on Survey: One Third Of Gamers Buy Music Game Songs]]> That stat is such bullshit. They would have me believe that of all gamers (ALL gamers?), take the percentage that owns either Rock Band or GH3 (the only two games that allow you to buy music online), and you'll end up with a pretty small percentage. Then take the those people, and take the percentage of them that have internet hooked up to that console. Then take THAT subsection and take a percentage of how many people have actually bought a song.

I call bullshit.

<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on Ninja Gaiden II Review: Swan Song or Death Knell?]]> @baccardi84: "All those things" get in my way of enjoying the one good part of the game. Not always, but often enough to be truly frustrating. I don't consider them little things, but even if they were, little things can most certainly ruin an experience if they get in the way often enough.

My main complaint with the game is the camera. It alone is enough to completely ruin the game for me. (And it has on more than one occasion.) I just happen to hate all those other things too. And that certainly doesn't help.

I loved Ninja Gaiden. Alot. I played through the original, Black, and Sigma probably a dozen times all put together. This only makes NG2's mediocrity all the more painful. I still like it overall... its just not awesome.

And by the way, ALL the things I write are "just [my] opinions". What else would they be? I've never understood that retort.

]]>
<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on Ninja Gaiden II Review: Swan Song or Death Knell?]]> I've been pretty unimpressed. The combat is great, but overall it doesn't really amount to much more than a few new animations. Its like Ninja Gaiden 1.5.

Every other aspect is simply awful. Enough has been said about the camera being terrible. But the environments, art direction, story and just about everything else in the game are just as last-gen and broken as the camera.

Really overrated. It should be getting 6's and 7's not 8's and 9s. And it should only be that high becuase I must admit, even with the uninspired and barely-noticbale-incremental improvements on the combat system, its still the best out there. Personally there's too much garbage in the way of fully enjoying it tho.

<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on Apple Launches Games for iPhone on App Store in July]]> @slomo788: You don't read the comments you respond to, do you? That explains alot. Forget I said anything.

]]>
<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on Apple Launches Games for iPhone on App Store in July]]> @slomo788:

"it's the topic of the article"

Wrong. It's not mentioned in the title, and is only one of the 6 paragraphs in the write-up. In fact, the mention of the paid firmware is the only mention of the iPod touch in the entire thing. It just happens to be what all of you petty, entitled idiots have latched onto. I don't get what there is to discuss. If you don't like it don't buy an iPod touch. What other point is there to make? Yet, on and on the discussion goes. Pathetic.

"You tried to justify it"

No. No, I didn't. I didn't even talk about it, other than saying how we shouldn't. Are you sure you responded to the right comment? Why would I justify it when I agree it sucks and Apple is wrong for doing it? I'm on your fucking side. I just think its a stupid, pointless thing to talk about.

"They halved the price of the iPhone? Big deal."

Yes, yes it is. It means a market penetration for the iPhone that could possibly be unprecedented, making the gaming aspects of the platform even more relevant, especially in the US, where cell-phone gaming has never really excelled. Also, halving the price of a high profile gadget like this is pretty unprecedented as well. So it is a big deal. (I'm sorry were you being sarcastic?)

Talk about whatever you want, I guess. I'm sure there are still plenty of important points to make about how much Apple sucks, and OMG M$ FTW, etc. Maybe there are even some other people here that agree with you aready that you can try and pick arguments with.

]]>
<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on Apple Launches Games for iPhone on App Store in July]]> @slomo788:

I'm not justifying it. It sucks. But's it also not news, and easily the least important thing that was announced today.

I love that you took my neutral comment that was trying to steer the conversation in more productive direction as an actually argument in the topic I was trying to avoid.

I'm afraid that pretty conclusively incriminates you as someone who's just looking to argue and not really have a discussion.

Talk about gaming on the iPhone.

]]>
<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on Apple Launches Games for iPhone on App Store in July]]> I love that 90% of the conversation has been about charging $10 for the iPod Touch firmware update, something we knew about months ago.

What about all the cool games they showed today? Or, I dunno, maybe the fact that they halved the price of the iPhone?

$200 puts it the range of other handheld gaming devices. Plus: you get a really cool phone.

]]>
<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on iPhone Games to Get WWDC Appearance]]> Its also important to note that Apple isn't really launching a gaming platform here. They're simply opening up their already existing (and very successful, remember that) platform to 3rd party developers. Gaming is, of course, a natural consequence of an open platform, much like the PC.

There is no chance "failure" here, at least not on Apple's part. The worst that could happen is some people charge too much for their software and it doesn't sell as well as they hoped.

I don't think it's going to take over the DS, but I'm also pretty sure that was never the intention. This is new territory to be sure, at least for America. These will be nicer than any cell phone games we've been accustomed to. Whether they'll rival DS/PSP quality is yet to be seen, though what I know of the architecture, its certainly possible. But again, to consider it in direct competition with dedicated gaming platforms is a little foolish. It's in competition with other phones. And to beat the gaming offerings on other phones in the US market will not be that difficult.

]]>
<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on iPhone Games to Get WWDC Appearance]]> I'll reiterate an important point even though I know it's probably been brought up already: developers are going to be free to set their own price.

Big publishers might try this $20-30 dollar thing, but it's important to remember that ANYONE can make games for the iPhone. The SDK is free. I have it on this machine now in fact, and I don't even know Objective-C.

Point being, there will be PLENTY of games in the $5-10 range. There will be plenty of AWESOME games in the $5-10 range. The sheer number of developers (big-time or otherwise) that will be interested in trying their hand on this promising new platform with a built in distribution system will be so staggering that quality can be practically guaranteed at every price bracket.

<![CDATA[Laxcat commented on How To: Block Our GTA IV Content]]> OK, I feel somewhat responsible for this. Just FYI here was my comment from the other thread that might have been started all this:

------------------------------------
I know its only my own fault and I don't mean anything against Mark, but this is exactly the type of thing that makes me not want to read Kotaku or any gaming blog.

What a nice pleasant surprise that would have been to discover that for myself, especially as a big Gervais fan.

Do we really need to know EVERYTHING about a game before it comes out?

Again, I know its my own fault, this is the kind of thing I have to expect to see on a gaming news site. Still frustrating tho. I don't want to just cut myself off from game news but I like to know as little as possible about media I've already decided I will consume.
------------------------------------

If all of you were respoding to some other idiot's comment that I didn't notice, then nevermind. But the real point I was trying to get at was why do gamers live in this perpetual state of informational gluttony? It's a much larger issue that drives the entire industry. Instead of a discussion about that, I get called a "ridiculous whining little bithc (sic)", even tho I never complained and never even used the word "spoiler".

To sum up, thank you Mark for the valuable information. Now if you could please post instructions on how one can disable the commenting system so I never have to read or be tempted to respond to the absolute mind-numbing nonsense some people consider discourse around here.

Reading the comments that got posted since since I started my last, it seems that lots of people are going to agree with the initial commenter. <![CDATA[Laxcat commented on Sony: PSP Portable Copy Not Coming with 2.2]]> "I'm also still confused about whether all Blu-ray movies will be copyable or if it will be only for movies that have an extra PSP file included on the disc."

As I understand it, there's a smaller, ready-to-go copy of the movie sitting on the BD that can just be copied over. So not even all movies would support it. Only ones that had that feature built in. It's unlikely you'd just be able to rip any BluRay. That could prove problematically uncontrollable for Sony.
