They won't and it doesn't. Libraries are actually a good chunk of an author's (and a publisher's) income for any given book. It's more like a rental store in that the books are bought new, so the author gets money for it. Funny thing is, people generally don't use libraries unless it's for research. People tend to buy books they want to read for pleasure instead of borrowing (and returning) books from a library :)
Well, retailers do buy games from the publisher, as you said. They in turn sell those games to consumers, as you said. The retailer then needs to buy more games from the publisher to replenish their stock. Any consumer that buys used games from a pawnshop (using the term to differentiate a used game shop from a new game shop), which gets their stock from other consumers, is not giving any money to the retailer or the publisher. That's money that the publisher doesn't get.
Looked it up on teh Googles. Ice Frog, the guy who's responsible for all things DotA as it is known today, is working for Valve as their lead designer for DotA 2. So... Valve has a very strong argument for trying to nab the name: the guy responsible for most of DotA works for them.
What happens if Steam decides to pull your license or if they close shop?

(Mind that I have lots of Steam account games too)

On a similar note: Capcom put out "Super Street Fighter 4" and "Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3" as new and separate games when, really, the addition of new characters were prime candidates for DLC, and the balance tweaks were game update material.
His tone and use of language isn't nice or civil, but that doesn't change the fact that he has a very good point. When we gamers buy used, the people who put in all their time and energy into making the game get jack shit of our money. Instead it goes to the entity that sold us the used game, and usually for only a five to ten dollars savings.

If we gamers make the decision to buy a given used game and the new one only costs ten dollars more, just spend the extra ten dollars and get it new. If you can afford to buy it for 50 dollars, you can afford to buy it for 60, just means you don't also stop at Jack in the Box on the way home ;)

You FOOL! Your Spock reference just made Kotaku even MORE vulnerable to SOPA! NOOOOOO!!!

But yeah, you (OP) wouldn't be fine if SOPA passes as many fun and informative websites would be taken down.

I'm somewhat amazed at all the Kotaku hate for not blacking out today. Kotaku reports on events and news. News. To get the word out. That's one of the few things you DON'T want going dark when you're trying to raise awareness.
If the game's story can support a female protagonist, why not?

"Men, on average, are physically stronger than women"
-Yes, but that's average. There are PLENTY of woman out there that can EASILY manhandle men through brute strength and/or skill.

"Women aren't prone to violent crime like men are"
-Check the other posts for the serial killer. Google for famous famous female gangsters. Watch a documentary on gangs, you'll see plenty of women you wouldn't want to mess with.

"I don't want to play as a woman, it wouldn't look right or feel right"
-Get over yourself. ;) You've played many games where you're someone you're not, just add this to the list.
I don't recall any issues with MW2 launch. My buddy and I placed a stupid bet with each other to see which one of us would quit playing first. From the midnight release to about two days later (I said it was stupid), no issues with connectivity, or anything.

This coming from a guy who's waiting on his BF3 game to start playing (I hate UPS).
It falls under the category of "art". You might as well say that non-professional bands, illustrators, and writers are also wasting their time. Also, these guys have demonstrated to poses great teamwork and planning which are VERY valuable skills, plus they show they have the dedication to see their projects through.
I usually have my mic on but keep to myself. My experience is that those who want to talk are usually trolling. Very few of these are actually funny, but most are just annoying. Rare are those individuals who just want a friendly chat or figure out how to work together to beat the other team.
Water. Sugar, caffeine, and other stims wear off too quickly and end up making you feel worse during mid-late game.
GameStop has been pulling these kinds of shenanigans for a long time. From selling me opened games as new (and the games themselves had marks on them), to telling me they can't sell me X game without a pre-order because it was released that day (and then I walk next door to Target and pick it up new without a problem)... pulling game content doesn't seem out of character. This is why I buy from anywhere but GameStop now.
The event should be televised (or at least internet video access), and people should place bets on their favorite to hold out.
It's kinda hard to think in terms of black and white when suddenly you have to deal with green and blue :D
Seriously. I didn't get half way through the synopsis before my eyes glazed over and I lost track of who was doing what and why I should care about them.
That would be grounds for an intervention.
You spent all night out at the bar again, didn't you?

Actually, smart-ass-ness aside, I played it a couple of times, twice with the same lady in mind. In one play through I would still try to visit the bar at night, and yeah, the missus just shut up and wouldn't do or say much. In another, I would be the dutiful husband and she was just as chatty and busy as when I met her.
