<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Suicide Girls Taps Into GTA IV Fetishism]]> SG used to be so much better when it had one new set a day. It had four new sets a day when I left, and I just felt that the quality dropped at that point. Sure, the site features a lot of amazing-looking women, but those women are far outnumbered by women such as this one.

Too bad so many awesome models left. Apnea was one of my faves. (Yes, I realize that she has her own site, but it's hard to pay that much for one model whenever SG was only $4 each month.)

<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Is Chrono Trigger DS Coming To America?]]> @Archaotic: I'd prefer a remake, but it's not so bad if it's just a port. The game is still quite capable of turning heads in terms of appearance. I remember the first time that I played it, as I was using a save file that somebody else had been playing. Seeing Luminaire for the first time is probably one of my most memorable and cherished video game experiences.

<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Resistance 2 Gameplay Vids]]> Okay...that was pretty tame. Honestly, if that's anything like the first game (and I assume that it is), then it's pretty sad that it was considered to be one of the main reasons to own a PlayStation 3 at the time. <![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @KenshinSlayer: Dreamcast didn't have enough decent games to sustain itself? If you think that Hydro Thunder and Soul Calibur are seriously the only two good games on Dreamcast, then you really have no clue what exactly makes Dreamcast such a solid console. I mean, I suppose that you've never heard of the following games...

- Capcom Vs. SNK
- Crazy Taxi
- Daytona USA
- Grandia II
- Illbleed
- Jet Grind Radio
- MDK2
- Skies of Arcadia
- Space Channel 5
- Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage

I could name a lot more. Those are just some of my personal faves. Dreamcast sold faster than any console before it at time of launch, and sold quite admirably up until the announcement of PlayStation 2. I know that its sales slowed down at that point, although I'm really not sure as to by how much. The fact of the matter is that Dreamcast wasn't hurting for good games, as it had plenty of them to go around. Furthermore, it had plenty of great games that were still in development. Considering how weak PlayStation 2's launch lineup was, I'm appalled that it sold as well as it did at launch. That's the power of brand recognition, though.

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @Murmaider: Thank you for that brilliant piece of work. Really, give me a break.

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @zoesch: Dreamcast was built to be inexpensive, so it isn't terribly surprising that they chose an inexpensive GPU. And my point regarding the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation 3 is that they're both much more difficult to develop for than their respective competition, but developers put up with it because they knew that the PlayStation brand sells.

Saturn, on the other hand, despite being superior in most respects to PlayStation, was left to rot by most developers, due to its more complex hardware architecture.

As for Dreamcast's hardware, how was it not optimized for gaming? Hell, its GPU alone, despite what you'll say about it, was very efficient and allowed for graphics that were far beyond anything that most gamers could've even imagined on a console. Considering how feeble its hardware is, it's pretty damn amusing that so many Dreamcast games are ported to consoles in the latest generation!

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @zoesch: You'd be hard-pressed to find a Pocket PC that's capable of running games of Dreamcast's caliber. Calling Dreamcast a souped-up Pocket PC is nothing short of ridiculous (and insulting). Yes, I'm fully aware that some of Dreamcast's components are similar to those of Pocket PC's, but - like I said - there's no way in Hell that a Pocket PC's capable of outputting graphics comparable to those of Dreamcast.

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @zoesch: I hope to God you aren't referring to the whole Windows CE thing. Any game that's "powered by Windows CE" actually contained its own copy of Windows CE that allowed the game to run. Calling Dreamcast a "souped up Pocket PC" is probably the dumbest thing that I've ever heard in a Dreamcast discussion. I don't even say that to flame; I say it because it's true. Dreamcast is based on Sega's arcade hardware at the time before and around Dreamcast's release, making for easy arcade-to-home ports. Read up on it some time.

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @Murmaider: Well, to be fair, Saturn had a limited online gaming setup, and Xband had some other consoles (as well as PC) covered. Considering the fact that my posts make some pretty valid points, I fail to see how they don't warrant a proper response.

My favorite consoles of all-time are Dreamcast and Genesis. So sue me. :P

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @Murmaider: And I respond by saying that - despite the high level of competition - the video game industry has pretty much stagnated. Also, you should be thankful that Sega used to release consoles, as it pioneered certain things that people now enjoy.

- Downloadable Content

What's that? Don't want to pay $49.99-59.99 for little more than new rosters in sports games? Well, then you can download updated rosters for free! Hell, some fans even release updated rosters for Dreamcast games to this day!

Also, while some of the "downloadable" content was, admittedly, already on the discs (like some "downloadable" content today, in fact), it was pretty cool being able to download those items. True downloadable content likely would've become a reality with the release of Dreamcast's Zip drive. :)

- Motion Control

Fishing controller, anyone? I still have yet to get one of these. You could even, to a limited degree, play Soul Calibur with it! I'm pretty sure, although not entirely positive, that you can play one or both of the tennis games on Dreamcast with it.

- Online Console Gaming

Sure, it was dial-up, but SegaNET allowed gamers to play online without the lag that you'd generally experience on a regular dial-up connection. Its servers were strategically placed throughout the country, minimizing lag and offering a very solid online experience.

You also have Sega to thank for forcing EA to not release the same crap from year to year with little more than just roster updates, as the 2K games were absolutely amazing back in the day. Do notice that Madden releases since the exclusive NFL license deal haven't quite offered as much as the Madden games released prior to that.

You've also got your VMU, which ended up inspiring GameBoy Advance and DS connectivity with GameCube and Wii, as well as possibly using a PSP as a rear-view mirror (which is completely idiotic, by the way).

Also, there's little reason to own both a PlayStation 3 and an Xbox 360, as exclusives that matter are generally few and far between. Then you've got Wii, which has Nintendo franchise after Nintendo franchise being completely whored out, with little really changing in terms of overall game play experience (with exceptions, naturally). Sega's creativity during the Dreamcaast era was nothing short of amazing, and it easily marked Sega's time of highest quality and - again - creativity.

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @SG79: I'm not doubting that PlayStation 2 has churned out some amazing graphics and whatnot. The fact of the matter is that the console has flaws that developers need to somehow compensate for by using software workarounds. Also, Sony tends to put too much faith in certain hardware components, thereby skimping on others, and it affects the overall power of each respective console.

Really, people should be glad that Sony finally swallowed its pride and put a dedicated GPU in PlayStation 3. They were banking on cell doing all of the work, then realized, "Damn...that isn't gonna work very well." The console is a throw-together. I realize that it's very, very powerful, but I don't feel that using Cell in a game console was a very smart move. It does a lot of things well, but I somehow feel that gaming wasn't really in the cards whenever the technology was originally conceived.

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @SG79: Of course I do. Without listing all of the various reasons, I'll just say that there are numerous reasons for Dreamcast's failure, and some of them simply rank well below Sony and PlayStation 3 in terms of significance. As such, yes, I do believe that they ranked high.

Both PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 are complete messes as far as hardware is concerned. Neither console has ever or will ever reach its full intended potential, as Sony simply doesn't know how to design a proper game console. Dreamcast, on the other hand, employed very efficient hardware, and it was able to easily achieve levels of presentation that still put current releases to shame at times. The PlayStation brand is carried by its name, and I'm really awaiting the day when it falls on its ass.

Developers were willing to put up with PlayStation 2, because people were buying it in droves. That didn't stop them from completely abandoning/avoiding Saturn development, despite Saturn being a far more powerful console. Why? Developers were a bunch of lazy dicks who needed dollar signs as a motivation to put forth any real effort. The same goes for PlayStation 3, but, thankfully, PlayStation 3 is so damn expensive to develop for that developers are actually opening their eyes and saying, "Damn...what're the chances of us actually turning a profit on this game?" That's why Sony is finding itself in this situation now, and I'm glad that Xbox 360 will be making some headway in Japan because of things like this.

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @Gray665: I'm pretty sure that EA was pissed about the hardware selected for use in Dreamcast, which is amusing, because Dreamcast is probably on of the easiest consoles in history to develop for. It's no big deal, because the 2K offerings were better than EA's offerings, for the most part, anyway.

<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @SG79: Did I ever once claim that Sony was [b]the reason[/b] that Dreamcast died off? My God, you tell me to grow up. How about opening your eyes?

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @Gray665: There were a lot of causes for Dreamcast's demise. As I stated, Sony was definitely a significant one, but Sega was also in a very bad financial situation. As for brand loyalty, I love my Sega consoles, but my brand loyalty only extended out to a point where I realized that the Sega that exists now isn't truly the Sega that existed during the time of Dreamcast. Now, Sega generally just pisses me off. They really don't know what their fans (or previous fans) want.

I agree that PlayStation 2 had a lot to do with it, but it wasn't the only thing causing Sega difficulty. Honestly, I find it amusing that Sony needs to call a console PlayStation [Number] and stick with the same generally controller design through each new generation. I suppose that this is going to become a fad, since Microsoft seems to like using the term Xbox. Sega wasn't afraid to make drastic design changes from console to console. Neither is Nintendo, although their reliance on certain IP's has just grown ti disgust me.

]]>
<![CDATA[kubevubin commented on Star Ocean 4 Coming To Xbox 360 in 2009]]> @Nightshift Nurse: Mile High Colonic: I, personally, think it's hilarious that so many devs are giving Sony the sold shoulder. Why? Because, despite what you may be willing to believe, Sony seems to think that it can survive on brand loyalty alone. (And, judging by your behavior, they could be right.)

In my opinion, Sony purposefully went with a drastically different processing architecture for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 to ensure exclusives by making porting such an enormous pain-in-the-ass. I thank God that it seems to be hurting them more than it's hurting them. It costs so damn much to make a PlayStation 3 game, even when you compare the costs of making an Xbox 360 game.

Really, Xbox 360 has the ability to thrive in Japan if it gets enough games that will finally allow Japanese people to stop being so loyal to Sony solely due to brand loyalty, and I'm pretty sure that this will happen if they're getting some big-name RPG releases.

Sony, die already. Really, I've despised that company since its contribution to killing Dreamcast. (I certainly realize that there were many factors to contributed to the death of Dreamcast, but Sony ranks high.) I honestly want nothing than for them to fail. Their fanbase strikes me as being very similar to a wife who stays with her abusive or unfaithful husband, blinded by her unrequited love for the complete asshole. Honestly, the lies that the Sony fanbase somehow manages to withstand on a regular basis is nothing short of staggering.
