@Chron4no: Why are you under the impression that any athlete gets a full ride? Most athletes have scholarships that are divided up amongst the team which ultimately on pay for about 1/3 of tuition at best. However, if you're on the basketball team, and you're the starting guard, you're getting as much money as possible, full tuition, paid meals, paid room and board, etc. This applies to the basketball and most football players. I always see the basketball and football players at school with nice clothes, expensive Dr. Dre Beats headphones, and I see them at my job (Best Buy) buying movies and video games all the time. They get along just fine. My cousin however, a star water polo player at UCLA, is always broke because even though he's damn good, their program isn't funded as well as football and basketball programs (which makes sense).
@Ubersoldat19: Uh yeah. This happens all the time in many industries and people don't bitch about it. If I showed up in training videos for my job, then I quit or got fired, who am I to bitch for more money because they're still using them or my "likeness"? Comparing a college institution to a professional job or the entertainment industry is not the same exactly. While people in entertainment get paid for having their likeness used, the fact of the matter is that he was a STUDENT, not a professional. Giving in to his ridiculous demands opens a whole can of worms, and their is no precedent for such a lawsuit. UCLA has him in highlight reels for basketball legacy videos they sell in the student store, they use the number he had for jersey sales, etc. The jersey doesn't have his name on it, nor does he have any rights to a number so he deserves nothing. I don't hear Jordan Farmar, Reggie Miller, Trevor Ariza, Afflalo, Love, Kareem, Walton, or ANY other UCLA great (or any college player) complaining about this. Any of those players are grateful for UCLA or college putting them on a national platform that helped them get to the NBA and their success. He's solely doing this because he thinks it can make him some money because he's a used car salesman and not an NBA player. It's not UCLA's fault he was one of the biggest flops in NBA Draft history.
@Chron4no: What's the point of college then? If they're gonna get paid, why not just make them pros? The NCAA is a tryout for players like Ed. They put in their pro-bono work to get recognition and have their shot at the NBA. Oh and UCLA (a great school btw) gave him a full scholarship and I'd bet blue chips on the side. Ed had his chance but he was garbage in the NBA. If he was successful then he wouldn't be bitching about this. He's just a broke washout that flopped and is trying to scam his way for some money. UCLA did enough for him.
@TheFaze: I go to UCLA and I think he doesn't deserve shit. UCLA gave him the opportunity to play in the NBA, a full scholarship, and I bet he got blue chips like most high prospects. UCLA fulfilled their end of the bargain.
@Chron4no: Players like O'Bannon get a full scholarship with excellent one-on-one tutoring (practically a free degree) and a chance at the NBA. UCLA gave him enough. He doesn't deserve shit just because he was a bust.
@chrollo0427: Ed O'Bannon had full ride. UCLA's basketball program and much of their football program are highly funded, they award full scholarships to most players, especially someone as good as O'Bannon once was. It's other sports like water polo and volleyball that get hit harder by scholarships.
@chardish: He's not a millionaire athlete. He's an NBA washout that flopped hard after being great at UCLA.
@paganski: He knows that. However Ed O'Bannon was a beast at UCLA and was the main player to led them to a national title. He was drafted in the 1st round and sucked instantly. Most NCAA players don't expect to make it to the NBA and be a good pro player.
Ed O'Bannon is just pissed he was garbage when he went to the NBA. UCLA did so much for you. Stop crying for more.
Did you guys not see the big "UPDATE" on Giz? It says 1080p not coming this year. Pretty much negates most of your article.
@Jon: Oh, and I'm long passed the 'jackass' comment earlier. He probably is one considering his comment. :)
@Jon: I didn't mean to imply you personally were unsatisfied with the way your games look, but many people in this comment section in general with SDTVs. What I'm trying to say is, when I had an SDTV that I played 360/PS3 games a couple years back, if I had a problem like this where I couldn't read the text properly, I wouldn't get all bent out of shape at EA/BioWare and go nuts on a gaming blog like some on here have. I would've been pissed, but not necessarily at the developers. I think that would just be the downfall of having an SDTV and that it's time I seriously think about investing in a low-end HDTV. If I couldn't, then that's what I have to live with, not expecting every single title to have perfectly readable text. I just can't believe the backlash people are having in here regarding small text on at best a couple games amongst a vast library of titles. You're right, I didn't quit gaming entirely, but I played much less. I never bought games, and as such, instead of playing all old games, I did other things like play basketball. My argument isn't "why game if you can't afford the high end", it's "Don't complain about not being satisfied trying to have high end gaming as a hobby with a low-end budget". Most games will suffice with an SDTV, I used to play COD4 and ME1 on an SDTV all the time (it was a new digital one that looked damn good for an SDTV though). But don't get all upset because one game (ME2) will not work properly on an older SDTV. And if you can't afford an HDTV, 360, internet, XBL, etc., then don't expect the same experience as those who can. I here people saying "there's still about 50% of households that use SDTVs." However, how many of those households have 360s? How many of those households using SDTVs actually have those TVs hooked up to 360s/PS3s? I highly doubt it's 50%. Most of those households with SDTVs probably have them hooked up more for secondary use, not in their living rooms hooked up to a 360 or pS3. I just hate the people crying to BioWare as if they intentionally screwed over consumers like they have stake in HDTV sales. Sorry for the long comment, and this isn't necessarily aimed at you, but those making a massive issue of it.
@The Anti-Fanboy: Ah, the old "You can afford it so it must have been paid for by your parents" argument. Good arguing. For what it's worth, that guy was acting like a dick though.
@Jon: I understand your point, and I agree that the guy was wrong. He was presumptuous and shouldn't think everyone in America can afford an HDTV. However, calling him a jackass and getting bent outta shape doesn't help either. I don't care for people name-calling on here, which is why I said that back to you with quotations. Secondly, if you can't afford an HDTV but you're unsatisfied with how your games look and how the text looks, then maybe gaming shouldn't be your hobby. I can afford games right now so I play them and I bought an HDTV a while back. When I was unemployed or making little money, I stopped gaming. I read books, studied, and played basketball, and went running more. I don't know your situation, but by the massive amount of comments on this article, it seems like a lot of people have their priorities out of wack.
@Dangeresque (Kojima-san doesn't have to make Metal Gear any more): Maybe you should consider a new hobby then. Or waiting til you get a job. I know it's not a matter of being cheap, but if you're broke, you're broke. Gaming is a relatively expensive hobby, especially in college when you can't work as much. Personally, I say don't worry about it and move gaming to the side, at least in the meantime. Or keep gaming but don't get upset that the TV you have is limited in its capacities and issues like this should be expected on such a TV.
@Nathan Lambes: Then don't complain about small text in a video game. You know your TVs limitations and should expect such issues with an SDTV. This is an HD game, not a PS2 game.
@The Anti-Fanboy: If that's all they have then they should understand that they're not getting the full experience. If you wanna play HD games on an SDTV, fine, but don't bitch about why you can't read the text well, etc. If you can't afford it and you want it to look good, then you shouldn't be wasting your money on an expensive hobby. If you're so broke then you've got much better places to put that money instead of video games.
