"@zoesch: I'm with you on Tagtgren's and Swano's production (except Hypocrisy's "Into the Abyss" album, which had a little too thick a production imho...enough to easily blow speakers (or eardrums...lol). Regarding Death Magnetic, I believe that album was meant to show fans that Metallica was still capable of pulling off musically what many older fans had come to doubt they could."
