Why do people even care how many devices are released for Android? If you don't like it, don't support the platform. The common anti-Android comments always include this, as if choice is a bad thing.

Choice is never a bad thing.
@ITSmeTPAIN: Those are for average users who are non technical and most likely know nothing about computers or technology. Just sayin'.
@Ashutosh: Nice! I wasn't aware of these models since I bought a land yacht of a laptop last year :(. I'll have to look into something like this on my next upgrade, OSX and ios just aren't acceptable platforms to me.
Until they make similar products on a real platform, these machines are dead to me. I will never buy another Apple product and haven't for years.
@Celtic1888: I've used a custom rom since 2009 and they've been nearly perfect in every way for me. I have no idea what roms or what experience you've had with custom roms on Android but tons of them are far from 'half baked'. Getting new functionality out of the same device instead of waiting for yearly updates (apple) is way better for me.

Android = PC
ios = well... you know :D

in regards to usability anyway.
@Bluetooth: haha, you got me there :D. I just don't like seeing 'iphone' in android related articles hehe
@awdark: Yes, they generally have to wait for source code unless it's not a major update to the OS itself. Creating drivers from an older build sometimes is portable, but there are generally improvements in newer versions and the devs want those to work with
@Bluetooth: The SGX535 gpu in the iphone4 was obsolete and outdated when the iphone4 was released, so yes it is.
@David Nguyen: Google has control over 'clean' Android devices like the G1, the Nexus one and the Nexus S. This is another available 'choice' to Android users and if the users don't pay attention or care about this area or this 'dilemma' then it's nothing but their own fault. Google isn't going to interfere with how hardware manufactures want to trash up their phones, that's why they do their clean version each year.
@Gundem: Yah they just initially charge you ripoff pricing for outdated hardware.
@geolemon: Nexus S doesn't use RFS, it uses EXT4 as required by Google. Hardware manufacturers can't spready their taint onto 'clean' Android devices.
@Celtic1888: I just don't understand the need for support. I've never needed support that I can't find *MYSELF*, I don't need to be spoon fed and I don't need some Gestapo mind controlling freak trying to tell me how to use my device that *I* purchased.
Um, this isn't rocket science. Samsung doesn't deal with updates for the Nexus S so even if Samsung makes it, they have NO control over the software on it. This is why nS's internal file system is ext4 instead of the problematic and ultra terrible RFS on all the other galaxy s phones. This is beyond frustrating to see Samsung doing this to their customers in regards to the other Galaxy S line.

This is why I've *ALWAYS* encourage to buy a *CLEAN* Android version (G2, Nexus One, Nexus S, etc) so that you don't have both carriers and hardware manufacturers screwing everything up. I get away from OTA updates the INSTANT I am able to on the Android phone I have at the time, and will continue to do so in the futre. I encourage everyone to try to have this mentality, the overlays on the various phones are trashy in itself and cause all sorts of problems like this.
@AveSharia: Could be an issue with the overlay that motorola uses for the droidx. I have used these features many times on my vanilla (cyanogenmod) on my 2.2 nexus one and it all works great. Contacts seemed to be a real issue at times with some of these overlays including touchwiz, htc sense, rachel ui, etc. :(
