The article has left me completely dumbfounded. I was under the impression that people play games because they enjoy the activity. I can understand being in a relationship and playing a game you don't like just to spend time with that person, but if you completely dislike games you wouldn't even do that in the first place.
There are plenty of girls I know at my school who enjoy playing all types of games. Sure, I'm in a building that houses the fine art and graphic design department so a disproportionate amount of girls would be geared towards all things anime-ish and game like, but the point is that I never got the impression from any of them that they do it simply to get attention or to belong to some social circle.
In fact, the idea that girls play games to belong to a social circle or get male attention kinda falls apart in a high school setting. In high school I probably knew a handful of girls who played games and they were considered loners and/or social outcasts. There are easier ways to get male attention. Show is your boobs and I'm sure you'll get a look or two, or three, or more depending on the males in the surrounding area :). "
