Hm, what could Kotaku possibly do to keep the fanboys in a constant state of foaming agreement or vitriol?? Oh that`s right, introduce a binary review system to keep the threads alive and the advertisers happy.
Sadly I have met a fair few english teachers in japan that have been told to teach the kids at their school `katakana english` I met one english teacher at a focus group who started speaking to an employee of the company we were at in english, but in this weird mockery of badly spoken japanese engrish.
`watto dzuuu yuuu dzuuu heaa` (What do you do here?)
toecurling stuff..
I also know another teacher that said she resorts to this lazy form with her class also, as she said they`ll never understand it otherwise.. there@s a dedicated teacher for you.. *facepalm*
The fact that these discrepances didn`t spring to mind straight away before the developers even laid a finger on their keyboard to start programming amazes me somewhat.
let`s be honest, south korea is only considered cool in japan by easily led teenyboppers and lonely housewives interested in waifish, effeminate looking boybands, which are being intentionally targeted at Japan and thats about it.
i view anything involving spontaneous action and free thought in japan with huge suspicion..
See all those cool, trendy kids in harajuku having their photos taken for fashion mags, and that "fruits" book??
most of those spontaneous originators work for the companies that make, or sell the clothes and are the result of many a stylist and make up artist..
Japan`s entertainment industry is carefully controlled to the hilt, how else could these ridiculous bi-monthly "booms" continue, and garbage like kat-tun and akb48 staying at the top of the charts?
Add in a herd mentality where not doing what the rest do is frowned upon and you have the ultimate easily led consumer society.
