@lukeswall: A long long time ago before the Wii came out and everyone was talking about it I was looking forward to motion tracking being the big point. Using a controller as a sword, manipulating things in a 3D space, the motion stuff being important. What it really became was point controls and waggle. I was kinda disappointed. Sure some of the games became better but, I dunno, even my kids don't use the Wii much anymore.
@lilgamerman: My experience couldn't be more different. I picked it up this morning and have been messing with it before the kids get home. The tracking is great! In my mind this is what i was wanting when I saw the Wii for the first time.
On an aside to the Netflix/Power Commands thing as I understand it all of these things are software issues so all it will take is updates.
@Blind Prophet: I'm not trying to just be a mean spirited person, nor a "troll" as someone said earlier. I'm just going off what people have told me.
And I don't mean western folk, I'm talking actual residents. Marketing may not have helped, and game styles may not have helped, but for a good while Microsoft tried really hard to appeal in that market. All the responses I ever got to the question mostly just boiled down to not liking this western company.
@aang003: Actually japan just hates the Xbox. It's not a style choice, or the style of titles, or improper marketing. Japan simply does not like it. It's not Japanese, and not in a "Well they need to market a new image" sorta way. Xbox is LITERALLY not Japanese. They love the PS3 because it is made by Sony, a company based there. They despise the Xbox because it's not, it really is that simple.
@Gein07: Actually you hit it on the nose. Companions are a side project, you have to quest for em in the storyline. Also they are optional, they are just there for help. Say if your healer class is having trouble in solo pull out a beefy companion.
@John_Oval: "I personally hate them because they are a waste of fucking time, and I really hate them when people say they are gamers because they play farmville. "
A thought to chew on, at the baseline, aren't all games, whether "core", social, or network based, a fun way to waste time?
@Batousi: It's actually an easy answer. It happens because the huge releases that sell a mind numbing amount of copies has a higher rate of inconsistent results because of the quantity of product out in the wild. You see the same sort of trend in major electronics, a certain TV sells really well and a host of problems crop up and you hear about it because of the larger amount of instances for it to crop up. A similar TV having the same issue but sells quite a bit less and the uproar isn't a roar, if you get my meaning.
@JGab: Minecraft is a sandbox construction game created by Markus Persson and is currently in pre release alpha. Minecraft development started around the 10th of May 2009, pre-orders for the full game started being accepted on the 13th of June. The game involves players creating and destroying various types of blocks in a three dimensional environment. The player takes an avatar that can destroy or create blocks, forming fantastic structures, creations and artwork across the various multiplayer servers in multiple game modes.
That's the gist of it. As of now there are two game modes, Creative and Survival.
Creative - Best described as digital Lego. Creates an INFINITE world and gives you unlimited blocks.
Survival - Picture creative, but you have to craft your tools and mine for the blocks. Build a fort, avoid monsters, make a farm, or go spelunking and get the shit scared out of you. This is the 'real' Minecraft experience.
Some of the best features: - INFINITE map sizes. It will generate new map areas as you walk towards the border. - Vast cave networks. You can get lost in them for hours. - Accidentally start a forest fire and watch the world burn. - Unique water and lava systems. - As sandbox as a sandbox game can get. - Notch puts out a secret update every Friday. This is a new tradition so it may or may not stick.
I shamelessly pasted this from the SomethingAwful thread.
@deafblindmute: People like to say "But what can we do!" and throw up their hands but really there is a single thing that you can do to protect your children online.
Supervision.
My children never get online without me. I use built in systems on the xbox and passwords on the computer. When they do go online with something it's with me thevoice chat turned off.
My problem with these stories is it sounds like an example of parents letting their kids be babysat by games.
@Tuba1060: You had to pay for for your books in middle-high school? I never had to pay for a single book up till college. School books were provided and the school would update their supply every few years.
@amazingmao: The reason I only buy single player games on my PS3 and any game with any kind of multiplayer option I get on the 360 is private and party chat. Cross game chat is also a plus. I pay for Xbox Live for this reason alone, it is worth every penny.
@Voodoo77: I'd like to say that as a GS employee I do a very good job talking, helping and explaining things to anyone that comes in the store. So do the other employees and the manager. The problem with gamestop is the mid level and upper management. Upper management has no idea how the stores should be run and mid management tries to force a lot of stupid things. It is really a store to store basis and since there are so many stores the chance of hitting a bad one seems to be more likely. I like my store and a lot of people that come in say they like our staff a lot.
@Mokona: Actually the way I see it is he doesn't mean "Who the hell was that Space Jockey" as much as who the space jockeys are. In the comics and books and all that they are a race that were using the aliens so perhaps a peek into what happened to them as a race.
@yaya-d: Its like, and try and follow me here, Guitar Hero and a real guitar have nothing to do with each other. Holy crap some one call a newspaper.
Honestly GH is a hobby, a pass time, a (dare I say it?) game. If you equate being good at GH is like being good at the guitar you are border line retarded and are not an "Aspiring musician". I kinda get what he is saying but really, how many people out there are thinking that as soon as they can beat the game on expert they will instantly be awesome at the instrument? I think he should replace that point with "Don't let people stop you from trying" as that would be more helpful to people actually learning the guitar.
Ah, at least I don't have to like the guy to like the tunes.
