#touhou exists... not that anyone will see this on my message page, but if you know what it means, this message is for you! ...?
This message was brought to you by the ministry of tangents.
I can't believe I missed wishing you a murry ⑨/⑨/⑨ day! Luckily, it occurs every ⑨ years!
I agree with what you said about privacy. It's getting close to crital mass. I followed you because I really think you're observant and unusually unbiased.
FROMMMMM!!! Why must you bury Acquire's name so deeply! I tried to check if you were the publisher or the dev, but the dev was totally obscured!
OMG! Tenchu 4 is coming! SOON! To the Wii? Cool, I have one of those!
...and they made Ayame ugly! WTF! FROMMMMMM!!! Why must you poison every Tenchu in some way??? T_T
I really liked your comments in the Japanese vs Western games article. I think Japanese games just have more soul than most Western ones. Glad someone else still agrees with me.
I'd still contact Nintendo, just don't tell them you opened it yourself, talk to the rep about the issues and send it in.
Your quite welcome. I'm glad you've got a new DS tho. And yeah a way to tell how many more hours of battery life would be good. If I might say, one way to help is to change it a down-tick from max brightness, that seems to help for me.
On your DS draining the battery overnight when in sleep mode, it sounds like the battery is faulty or old. You should contact Nintendo ASAP, because i've left mine in sleep mode for 3 days before and opened it to still be able to play at least a few hours on it before the charge light went red. Remember that Nintendo takes good care of it's customers and you might find yourself with a brand new DS if it's a issue with the system or at the very least, a fully functioning system that will allow you to get your game on whenever.
The fact that Nintendo often does small repairs for free is good stuff too.
It's hard to keep up on EVERYTHING on Kotaku...
Google Reader is pretty sweet (then, RSS is handy anyway!)
My Google feeds are Kotaku, Schneier on Security, Physorg, Psyblog, jpopexpress, and animenewsnetwork so far... ^^b
I read the story on Hachiko, it was really similar and sad. Right up and before the part where it said he was stuffed and put in a museum after he died. That sort of killed the mood, but your point was well received.
Nice intro, and I enjoy reading your comments!
Your comment on RO for the DS reminded me of how much I used to hate hunters/snipers. They were so overpowered and noob friendly. Only way to really beat them at their own game was to roll a monk/champ and one shot E-fist them.
I'm not sure what I like most about you. The Ghost in the Shell name, the Lucky Star avatar, or the intelligent commenting.
+1 follower for you!
Your right on two things.
1-I'm highly aggressive. I'm trying to tone it down and fine tune it but it's hard as hell on Kotaku where the line of thinking from the Circle of Six and other trolls is Nintendo sucks simply for making six causal focused games. With some people you can have a reasonable discourse, with other folks, when they post stupid tripe, they need fire. Lots of hot fire. Then a dunce cap to go stand in the corner.
2-I was still in battle mode because every time his name comes up or has in the past, it's typically some troll going on how Nintendo went and had him killed because of the failure of the Virtual Boy. Hell, no one suffered more then Nintendo when he left, he had formed his own studio and i'm sure would have come up with some fantastic stuff for them and gamers if he had a chance to live. I still think he wasn't pushed out of the door, but left due more to the stain on his own honor he felt the VB was, but the only people who could really tell us are Shiggy and the old dragon and they said their thoughts on the matter years ago, in pieces lost to the ravages of internet time.
Your still worth friending, I friend people who I find smart, not who always agree with me.
I've kind of wanted to post an introduction for a while now. I just wrote one up for my profile on Kotakuites, so here it is, written for the mods there and left unaltered:
I didn't plan to, but I find myself spending a lot of time on Kotaku, and I care about the community that has developed around it and the quality of the discussions that can be found there (if you look hard enough now ^^;). Hopefully more interesting or abstract ideas can be brought up in a good atmosphere here.
I grew up using computers and playing video games as they were picking up speed in the early 80s. I've always loved technology and have a job in IT that has yet to risk burning me out, haha. I'm the kind of general geek who studies anything he's into extensively, so by now I feel kind of like a tech historian, and I seem to be rolling up a modest following on Kotaku through no deliberate effort on my part. (Hopefully that didn't sound too conceited, but this is a justification, right? ;) )
I definitely believe that video games are a form of art. I even believe I have an agreeable cross-medium definition of art - it is something designed with the intent of evoking an emotional response. This can be as mild as aesthetics, making most things man creates a kind of art if it's not purely utilitarian. As a kid I remember each game was like a self contained world of wonder and possibility... some very crappy worlds, but the experience was unrivaled. The primitive 8-bit games connected in a way cartoons, TV, and movies didn't.
On Kotaku I always worry that I'm coming off too negative, always digging on things I read, but it's because I've seen times where every popular game was a genre (space invaders, pong, kong), and beyond that it was anything-goes. There was no right or wrong way to make a game yet. I've programmed in numerous languages on a handful of different systems and watch things like coding scene demos so I know what is possible - or at least I have some real idea of the potential of modern game systems. When I see something like a generic clone, cheap mascot-insertion title, or a great game rushed to completion and spoiled by showstopper bugs, it upsets me because mega-budget game design has robbed gaming culture of so much creativity and potential greatness already. In many cases better alternatives are clear, but too risky. It's no coincidence that the Dreamcast is fondly remembered for its quirky hits, and was also comparatively quite cheap to develop software for.
Anyway, I usually way overshoot normal post size on Kotaku, but I think that about sums it up as a ~400 word introduction. I'm kind of a jaded lifelong game otaku with demanding standards due to my experiences so far. I do things other than gaming, but this hobby continually brings me joy. Cheers!
Good points on the Gumpi comment. It's nice to see someone else informed, because every time his name comes up, we get this stupid. "Nintendo had him killed." tripe.
Anyone who has Konata as their avatar is welcome on my friend list ! =D
