@TheSonOfKrypton: The Internet has been well aware of that "truth" since, oh, 2004. People have been proclaiming "Palm is dead" FOREVER.
Lo and behold, Palm is still here. Funny that... you'd almost think the Internet was full of armchair CEOs pulling predictions outta their ass with no real clue...
What a load of crap.
"Android is the new Windows Mobile, but in a good way."
No. In a bad way, where every hardware maker has their own tweaks, display settings and UI that will inevitably make app development a nightmare as devs struggle to make sure an app is compatible with all 50 gazillion variations of the OS.
"Apple learned from their past mistakes, and actively courted developers from the start."
Bullshit! Like when Jobs said "no third-party apps 'cause they'll take down AT&T's network?" Like when they didn't release the SDK until a year after the iPhone launched?
• Google is an app development powerhouse: Their apps are becoming more and more central to the general smartphone experience.
And this is kinda why some folks don't want to use a Google OS. Rather not have all my eggs in one basket, thanks.
Palm is hanging by a thread, and they haven't issued a truly major update to their OS since it came out.
Which was only four months ago. Lest you forget. In that time we've gone from webOS 1.0 to 1.1. to 1.1.3 to 1.2, with 1.3 due in the next coupla weeks when the Pixi drops.
"Palm is dead" has been the catchcry for years now. Every single tech pundit has had a go. First it was WinMob, then it was the iPhone, now it's Android who is being named as the murder suspect. Every single time they've been wrong.
It'd be funny if it wasn't so sad. The tech press is like a two-year-old, jumping every time a manufacturer jangles their keys to get their attention.
@Tom Trelvik: If you're at work maybe you could try actually working instead of demanding that Gizmodo surgically remove the best humour for the rest of us?
Failing that you could always notice the big frakkin' NSFW in the headline and move on...
@Odin: You mock, but you probably shouldn't. Acknowledging the past failures of human institutions (especially obvious dickhead-ery like this) and feeling remorse for them is an important part of advancing our civilization.
The attitude of "well, it didn't happen on my watch" is, frankly, childish and (more importantly) insulting to those who have been harmed by such events.
Empathy costs nothing. Talk is cheap. An apology may mean nothing to you, but it may mean everything to the losing side.
The Internet makes me sad.
@appletoad: @willxcore: Due to webOS's HTML/CSS/JS development environment, apps will not need much tweaking and many won't need any at all - it's part of the reason they went in that direction to start with.
Palm's own development guidelines specifically remind webOS devs to keep in mind that future devices will have different screen sizes.
@met2art: your Obsession with The Deadly Years of TNG is seriously giving me A Taste of Armageddon. I'm considering an Errand Of Mercy, because your Private Little War is truly a Dagger Of The Mind. All Our Yesterdays aren't enough to lead The Way To Eden in this case, and I doubt even The Ultimate Computer could help.
:P
@OPHICERMANGO: "I like the way the email automatically says "Sent from a Macbook Wheel. That way people know you have one."

Never gets old.
As usual, the problem with Apple isn't so much the actual incidents as their attitude towards them. The company is so goddamn stage-managed it makes Cirque du Soleil look amateur by comparison.
@HaroldLaBamba: Indeed. I felt this approach worked really well on Enterprise's swansong fourth season. (Even if they did have an annoying tendency to drop the ball in the final story of said arcs.)
If River wins, this poll will be forever proved as bullshit! Buffy would kick her ass to the moon and back. Worst comes to worst, she just needs to bust out the ol' rocket launcher again...
