"Ive always thought of dragonforce as mainstream pop"

And that's where you lost us. You can have an opinion on music, but not what genre it is. Those are facts.

Mainstream pop is your Britney Spears music. That would be like me saying "I've always thought of Britney as speed metal" and expecting you to take me seriously.

<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Here's Why Fallout 3 Was "Banned" In Australia]]> @Walker:
"Stick an mature 18 rating on the game if you deem it that bad but out right banning it?"

We would if we had an 18 rating. That's the point we're trying to get at.

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Here's Why Fallout 3 Was "Banned" In Australia]]> @Ashkihyena:
Not at all. In Australia:

M = Recommended for 15+
MA = Restricted to 15+
R = Restricted to 18+

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Here's Why Fallout 3 Was "Banned" In Australia]]> @Monkeez:
Parents are actually really well educated about the ratings system, especially after games ratings started using the same familiar ratings as films (G PG M MA R) except that games don't include the R. If we had one, parents would immediately understand what it means because they likely wouldn't let their kid watch an R rated film.

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Here's Why Fallout 3 Was "Banned" In Australia]]> @ThisCharmingMan:
No, the OFLC wants an R rating too. It's SA Governor-General Michael Atkinson who is stopping it.

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Here's Why Fallout 3 Was "Banned" In Australia]]> @suntorytime:
"If this ban stops soccer mums from walking into a store and ignorantly buying the game for their 8 yr old kids, then I've got absolutely no gripes with it."

An R rating would have the same effect, and wouldn't restrict actual adults who want to play the game.

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Fallout 3 Refused Classification In Australia]]> @Salen:
There was a big push but Atkinson refuses to budge. He thinks he can protect children from adult-oriented material by removing the civil rights of adults.

@FLYBOY611:
Heaps. Kotaku even has an Australian sister-site and several Australian editors.

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Fallout 3 Refused Classification In Australia]]> @Erwin:
I don't know what what's like?

Manhunt was legal here for quite a while before it got either banned or "taken off the shelves" (I can't remember which).

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Fallout 3 Refused Classification In Australia]]> @ChiZ_MacT:
I suppose, but it's already been discussed a lot so he's well aware of it. Plus it's out of parliament now anyway. Fingers crossed for the public polling.

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Fallout 3 Refused Classification In Australia]]> @Salen:
Once it's "Refused Classification" then it's considered illegal to import it. In the same category as weapons, drugs, etc.

Yahtzee's copy of Smash Bros Brawl that you're refering to was sold legally because the government had never declared it an illegal import.

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Fallout 3 Refused Classification In Australia]]> @ChiZ_MacT:
They actually agree. But they don't make the legislation.

The bottleneck is Michael Atkinson, the one guy who disagrees and the decision needs to be unanimous.

Last word was that they couldn't reach an agreement so the vote was being cast to the public in a random polling. Fortunately the last time they did that, 88% of households said "We want an R rating"

So don't email the OFLC.

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Fallout 3 Refused Classification In Australia]]> @MSUSteve:
It costs $120 to buy GTA4 on the shelf in EB. It cost me $74 including postage to import the uncensored version from play-asia.com

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Fallout 3 Refused Classification In Australia]]> @Lumines:
Excuse me?

]]>
<![CDATA[elevenoverzero commented on Fallout 3 Refused Classification In Australia]]> FUCK! Fuck you Michael Atkinson.

How long can we keep our heads in the sand? They say they won't introduce an R rating because those "tech savvy kids" will just find ways to get the games, then. Have they ever heard of the Internet?

An R rating would give parents MORE understand of the content of a game.

They are not holding back a tide of filth that adults shouldn't want to see to begin with. They are holding back the civil rights of adults.
