Of course, 'timed exclusives' are a different story.
This is definitely NOT a demo. People who say this is a demo simply can't understand how BIG Gran turismo games are.
Anyhoo, Ill be getting this game on day one (next week!). ~£24 is a bargain for the best racing game of the year. (let's face it, even as a 'demo', nothing would seem to come close to GT5P as the sim racer of the year)
The learning curve is quite steep though, so be prepared to lose a bunch of your free time. But once you get into it, its worth it.
Lest we forget, Rockstar (an unknown publisher then) self-released GTAIII and was supposed to publish Halo (til Bungie moved to MS); Midway published Burnout (when nobody thought arcade racers would be profitable); THQ published Company of Heroes (one of the best strategy games of the recent years) because no one else wanted to; Atari Neverwinter Nights (when Bioware was still seen as a non-mainstream developer); and many more equally deserving.
My point is that these publishers deserve not our ridicule. They might be guilty of releasing bad games (like ALL publishers!), but at least they are the ones ready to publish new and original IPs "successful" publishers ignore.
Oh well - here's to unnarrated cutscenes! Go Resistance 2!
those who say that this game is just a demo probably don't know how big games GTs are, and are probably not fans in the first place. it makes sense that a series as popular and as big as GT would get a pre-release complete version. This is meant for people who are REALLY into GT, not new-comers, I would say. I bet if FFXIII or HALO3 or GoW2 or GodofWar 3 released prologues, it would make more sense to these people.
And please. enough about car damage! GT has never been about stupidly crashing cars. if you want car damage, play burnout or something. real GT players know GT is not about the car damage, its about the car handling experience.
Anyway, I owned an arcade and it was a mistake (I should have gotten a premium). In as much as I understand people who would opt to buy arcade/core, MS should have standardized HDD and ignored 'budget' buyers (like me).
However, that's not enough to bash mandatory installs, more so call it stupid. You can't use one game (DMC4) to judge the whole process. Tons of other PS3 games have mandatory installs, most of which have got 5mins to install tops.
Look at Oblivion ps3. It installs 4GB worth of data on the HDD without the player even realizing it. And what did we get in return? A much higher texture resolution and faster loading.
I wouldn't be surprised if they pull it off. If any dev knows about technical graphics, I think it would be them.
Yes, cause that's what xbox needs more of: choices. /sarcasm
I'd take the install anytime, at least it doesn't disrupt me in the middle of the game.
The bottom line is that there is a technology that allows 50GB data on a single disc, why not use it? If its available, then use it.
Majority of 'they're crap developers' commenters can't just face the fact that DVD is simply being left behind.
History: compression was made for online distribution and to fit more in small capacity discs. Blu-ray has 50 GB! Why would anyone force compression when the space is there? Its like saying audio CDs should compress so they won't fill the entire CD! C'mon. Just accept the fact that Blu-ray is where its going..
On a second note, Uncharted filled up 92% of the Blu-ray disc, and its an 8-hour game. This makes perfect sense on MGS4.
Uncompressed audio is definitely the way to go - more processing power for physics and graphics! Leave uber-compression to digital distribution. Better to maximize disc space than add processing burden to Cell, I say!
Bottom line: changing audio is not as easy as swapping files. For PCs it may work, but not for dedicated hardware.
