might as well put mine

1. Civilization II
2. Starcraft
3. Zelda Windwaker
4. Dragon Quest VIII
5. Knights and Merchants

@Astrofox: yah, me too. was afraid it wasn't worth the asking price. but now its taking away some of my COD4 time. im actually surprised that GT5P multiplayer is taking loads of my gaming time. So c'mon, euro gamers; more racers more fun.
awww. why are a lot of people saying Sony paid for this exclusivity. One of the reasons the PS3 was criticised was for being not aggressive enough compared with their competitors (as they publicly claim they do not pay for exclusive titles), as such losing a BUNCH of good titles. Now they are being criticised for the exact opposite. I don't know; a lot of contradictory stories make me queasy.

I am all for third party exclusives so that each hardware could be utilised to the fullest. Each system has its own strengths and only exclusives could fully tap that strength; third party titles more so because they are familiar with the other systems' weaknesses as well, making the developers appreciate more what one system can't and another can. So go exclusive titles!

Of course, 'timed exclusives' are a different story.

@Garo: what a great way of putting it!

This is definitely NOT a demo. People who say this is a demo simply can't understand how BIG Gran turismo games are.

Anyhoo, Ill be getting this game on day one (next week!). ~£24 is a bargain for the best racing game of the year. (let's face it, even as a 'demo', nothing would seem to come close to GT5P as the sim racer of the year)

@Dir_en_grey: I would definitely recommend this game even if you are not into shooters. I see this title as more of a real-time strategy shooter rather than an actual shooting game. It is more concerned with which base to defend, to capture, and such rather than which part of enemy to shoot, where to hide, etc.

The learning curve is quite steep though, so be prepared to lose a bunch of your free time. But once you get into it, its worth it.

Yes! £25! my personal sweet spot in buying games.
I really hate people who make fun of failing corporations like Atari, THQ, Midway. (Yes, Im looking at some commenters at this thread). Fair enough, they release bad games more than everyone else, but they are the ones that produce some of the most original content, unlike "successful" corporations who rely on formulaic games.

Lest we forget, Rockstar (an unknown publisher then) self-released GTAIII and was supposed to publish Halo (til Bungie moved to MS); Midway published Burnout (when nobody thought arcade racers would be profitable); THQ published Company of Heroes (one of the best strategy games of the recent years) because no one else wanted to; Atari Neverwinter Nights (when Bioware was still seen as a non-mainstream developer); and many more equally deserving.

My point is that these publishers deserve not our ridicule. They might be guilty of releasing bad games (like ALL publishers!), but at least they are the ones ready to publish new and original IPs "successful" publishers ignore.

I can't believe that this is just the first time Insomniac is using mo-cap. Their games are so well animated that you would think it would be mo-cap driven.

Oh well - here's to unnarrated cutscenes! Go Resistance 2!

I think if will be difficult for MS to release a blu-ray add-on that would be competitively priced. As far as I know, none of MS's manufacturing partners have BD production facilities; they will have to actually ask someone else to produce it for them (meaning they will have to pay more, compared with if it was produced by one of their partners). Probably samsung or panasonic; i doubt it would be Sony. $200 add-on, anyone?
Nice! can't wait!

those who say that this game is just a demo probably don't know how big games GTs are, and are probably not fans in the first place. it makes sense that a series as popular and as big as GT would get a pre-release complete version. This is meant for people who are REALLY into GT, not new-comers, I would say. I bet if FFXIII or HALO3 or GoW2 or GodofWar 3 released prologues, it would make more sense to these people.

And please. enough about car damage! GT has never been about stupidly crashing cars. if you want car damage, play burnout or something. real GT players know GT is not about the car damage, its about the car handling experience.

@Captain Impulse: oops. sorry, got a bit out of topic.

Anyway, I owned an arcade and it was a mistake (I should have gotten a premium). In as much as I understand people who would opt to buy arcade/core, MS should have standardized HDD and ignored 'budget' buyers (like me).

@Harteex: don't get me wrong, Im not saying that waiting for stuff to install is not annoying. Heck, waiting 30 mins to try a game for 10 would definitely be bad.

However, that's not enough to bash mandatory installs, more so call it stupid. You can't use one game (DMC4) to judge the whole process. Tons of other PS3 games have mandatory installs, most of which have got 5mins to install tops.

Look at Oblivion ps3. It installs 4GB worth of data on the HDD without the player even realizing it. And what did we get in return? A much higher texture resolution and faster loading.

Go Crytek!

I wouldn't be surprised if they pull it off. If any dev knows about technical graphics, I think it would be them.

@Captain Impulse: I don't get that. You don't mind installs, but hate the mandatory ones? So basically, you like installing only if you could choose NOT to do it. In other words, you like 'the concept of installing'. hm.

Yes, cause that's what xbox needs more of: choices. /sarcasm

hehe.. I like it that xbox owners don't mind disc swapping but absolutely hate an initial install.

I'd take the install anytime, at least it doesn't disrupt me in the middle of the game.

Radio Free Zerg 2.0 = best game ever... =)
Compression is NOT the way to go - c'mon, by the 'compress it' logic, everyone should still be using CDs!

The bottom line is that there is a technology that allows 50GB data on a single disc, why not use it? If its available, then use it.

Majority of 'they're crap developers' commenters can't just face the fact that DVD is simply being left behind.

haha. its funny that people claim that Kojima's team are lazy developers. Just face it, you can't accept the fact that DVDs can't fit 'next-gen' games anymore. If the technology is there (a big capacity), why succumb to inferior technology (compression)?

History: compression was made for online distribution and to fit more in small capacity discs. Blu-ray has 50 GB! Why would anyone force compression when the space is there? Its like saying audio CDs should compress so they won't fill the entire CD! C'mon. Just accept the fact that Blu-ray is where its going..

On a second note, Uncharted filled up 92% of the Blu-ray disc, and its an 8-hour game. This makes perfect sense on MGS4.

To those who are saying 'just use lossless compression', it's not as easy as it sounds! Lossless codecs require a much higher amount of processing cycles. Sure, the cell can handle it, but incorporating it would affect how everything else uses the cell SPUs, thus may compromise other things, particularly the physics engine.

Uncompressed audio is definitely the way to go - more processing power for physics and graphics! Leave uber-compression to digital distribution. Better to maximize disc space than add processing burden to Cell, I say!

Bottom line: changing audio is not as easy as swapping files. For PCs it may work, but not for dedicated hardware.
