@Shinryoma:
One comment I read here awhile back said that John Carmack was "irrelevant". I could only frown and shake my head after reading something so ludicrous and uninformed.
@zanzibarlegend:
"the only people that anyone should be ashamed of is people who make generalizations about people without actually knowing them"
One of the best comments I've read today....thanks.
@wox42:
I'm refering to the ad that said ...."John Romero will make you his bitch."
The fact that the game was mediocre made the bitch be Romero. I personally saw it as karma for his unbridled arrogance.
One reason that devs are not spotlighted more can be thanks of John Romero and his infamous "Daikatana". People still bristle at the ad campaign for that game.
Diablo III is THE game that will make me get/upgrade a pc that will play games other than Diablo and Diablo II era stuff. There have been a few titles in the last few years that were tempting but only the chance to play a new version of Diablo will actual make my lazy ass do it.
The first few times a hell knight suddenly appeared behind me, (seemingly outta thin air since I had just searched the area), I must admit that it got me to jump and fire wildly until I figured out where the attack was directed from. But after awhile it got extremely annoying, because it was such a "cheap" tactic. Eventually I was able to discern what the closets looked like prior to triggering and spent time walking backwards....in the dark because my gun had no light or because, as shocking as it seemed in an advance research lab, something as simple as duct tape was missing.
Two great songs by Enslaved, but the biggest surprise, (and one of my alltime favorites), is EMPEROR w/ Thus Spake The Nightspirit.
Emily Ridgeway has done an awesome job with the music. Thanks for some great music that normally is not only ignored but shunned.
@Rilo-Andy:
Thank you for the refreshing comment. You explain exactly why diversity is needed and why there is a need for something besides the same old shit we have been playing for decades.
I have been a fan of the R&C series since the first game, and loved them all (although Secret Agent Clank was very dissapointing, so was Size Matters but not in the same way). But as much as I love Clank, his solo gameplay isn't as fun or engaging as when Ratchet and Clank are together. The lack of Clank in R&CF: Booty was one of the weakest parts for me.
Using Clank to go in small areas, etc... is a nice change but if overused really drags down the pace.
Bayonetta is a 2010 release? Damn. I was actually curious about that title.
I for one am grateful that this fall will not have as many big titles like last year. Not only was on the pricey side, but it got to the point that everytime I was getting into a game a new one was released that I was equally looking forward to. And the result was a whole lot of unfinished games piling up. I still have not gotten around to finishing all the games I bought in 2008. Which is kinda good since this summer has been barren with a few exceptions.
@OkayOctane:
The "Death-Grunt" aka "cookie monster vocals" first appeared during the 80's as a backlash to high pitched vocal styles asscoiated with many metal bands of the time, making many to wonder if they were in fact eunuchs.
@Orionsaint:
"has had its 300-pound weight limit tested successfully by a guy at E3 who one of the game reps on hand guessed, must have weight 350. Two of me would have barely busted the limit."
Says it right there in the article...
Somehow I missed that this version of Wolfenstein was going to center around The Spear Of Destiny.
I read Trevor Ravenscroft book about this called imaginatively "The Spear Of Destiny" which puts forth the theory that one of the main reasons Hitler went to war was to get The Spear Of Longinus from a museum in Austria because whoever possesed the relic (legend says it is the spear that was used to pierce the side of christ by the centurion Longinus while he was on the cross), would have the power to rule the world. Didn't seem to work much for Hitler did it?
Finally something more concrete on id's new IP and engine. I have my doubts about a 2010 release from a company as notorious as Valve for saying "It's ready when it's done."
