Sony won PS1 because they treated their 3rd parties better.
This gen is proof that

1. Gamers don't matter (wii)
2. Money beats good treatment (360)

MGS4 will probably be on the 360 within 6 months of the end of their exclusivity agreement, with all the apple stuff turned to MS stuff (generic computers and laptop, a zune instead of an iPod, a 360 instead of a PS3, and a... Zune instead of a PSP, and a generic cellphone rather than an Ericsson)

Sony is going to lose this hand because they don't have the money to see that bet... MS wins by default. And Nintendo?

Everyone with half a brain knows Trophies = achievements +1... And everyone who loved achievements on the 360 but didn't own one is very happy they took that concept. Like Me, for instance. I just wish more games had it, and they implemented it from Day 1.

When it was brought to the US it was transliterated (what I think correctly so) as Aeris, but because there is no TH in Japanese, non-Japanese words with TH often become "su" instead, so people translating things back default to TH rather than S. This was the case with the Official Japanese strategy guide... Thing was, most of the names were real words. Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeris, Barret... (as for Tifa... my friend said it was just "if" in T&A)

I think the strategy guide was wrong rather than the original American translators, especially considering how much they borrowed from the latin opera "Carmina Burana" (One Winged Angel is composed of the song titles from that opera, and you may find some other familiar FF7 artifacts in the opera's words, too, including Materia) I think it came originally from Latin, and therefore is Aeris, especially considering her connection to lifestream...

Another explanation (why it's supposed to be Aerith) is that it's actually another form of "Earth" but this doesn't fit with how words come into Japanese... They're done by pronunciation, not by "spelling" because Japanese has a ideographic writing system combined with 2 syllabaries... Non-Chinese foreign words enter the language with Katakana, one of the Syllabaries. The way to transliterate "Earth" into Japanese is "Aasu" or "Aarusu" but NEVER "Earisu"

If you must know, "Earisu" would be the perfect transliteration of "Aeris".

If Nintendo keeps winning outright like this, people will see there is no money to be made in other types of games, and they'll just stop trying.

I only use my PS2 for cheating (action replay) but I do my normal playing on my PS3... Yay for infinite free virtual memory cards! And for the rare occasions I'm allowed on the HDTV, yay for upscaling!

But now... I don't even KNOW what this is.

I laugh when I hear people say Nintendo innovates and everyone else steals... Everyone steals... Except Apple, though sometimes I wish they did because "innovation" only gets you so far.

New rendering engine my ass... MS just wanted to make sure they had something to combat the mods, and splitscreen means local multiplayer which many consider more important than mods (I place them about equal)

The internets... That's who. This is the age of kotaku and game trailers... Every word by an exec of a company is put under scrutiny, and trailers from Alpha footage are mocked because they don't have that gears of war shine. No, trust me, if Sony put out an open beta on a game, it'd be murdered and its reputation destroyed to the point no one would bother with it any more...

There aren't many Sony fans (me included) that would stick with them if things were as hard on the PS systems as they were with the gamecube and even the 64... And Nintendo doesn't need YOU anymore, since they have the grandmas and little girls and business men and newsweek and new york times proclaiming what geniuses they are while their pockets get lined with money.

I'm finding it hard to stick with Sony now, the only thing that's making me barely hold on, on a thread, is that they give more freedom to their devs than either of the other 2. Then again, though, you have the MOST freedom on the PC, and I'd love to help revive the PC industry, but I doubt it will happen... Piracy and clichés have all but killed it...

At least i got half of what I was looking forward to... I got MGS4... That'll be some consolation, for another month or so...

At least I can enjoy the gamecube of this generation with the ability to play games from the PS2 of last generation and the PS1 of the previous... Well, ok, I guess making metaphors with the thing itself isn't a metaphor (Longcat is long)

Yeah... The PS3 just died here... It always took 2 games to keep the Playstations alive. Metal Gear and Final Fantasy. With only half of that, Playstation is dead...
