<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on Saints Row 2 Delayed]]> I love the notion of having an open sandbox type game. They're great.

I hate the idea that every sandbox type game ends up looking like GTA.

I want a game where you're a pilot, and you get shot down on an island - and the whole game is about you helping a city on the island to defend the ensuing army that's about to attack the island.

Parts of the game would be you flying around and dogfighting. Then you get used to an island. Then you start to see signs that an attack is near. You cannabolize your airplane for guns and booby traps to help defend the island.

Then the end of the game is a huge battle where you have to fight off the attack. Once that's over, you get back to the mainland.

I dunno. It'd be all open box, but none of it sounds like GTA.

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on Take-Two: CTA Won't Talk GTA]]> The City of Chicago is in a tight spot here. On one hand, you have a city sensitive about a recent crime wave that had 20 people shot in one weekend.

Then the news reporting that 'there's a link between Grand Theft Auto and violence, and look who's advertising it? The CTA' -

So, I can see why Ron Huberman of the CTA made the call to take down the ads - but he clearly made the wrong call.

I also feel that Fox News should be held liable for their 'shock style' of reporting. When you make up facts as a part of a scare tactic in your journalism - you need to be held accountable. That report did no service to the community.

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on Perhaps The Stupidest Anti-GTA Vid You'll See Today]]> Glenn Beck is a moron - which is why he's on CNN.

Also notice that he says that you 'can' do those things. not 'required' to.

That's not conditioning, it's test of who you are without moral authority guiding you.

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on Microsoft, Rare, Gyration Talk 360 Wii Remote Rumors]]> you know, I don't get ps3 and 360.

They're great at what they do. But the wii is there for casual gaming - not hardcore gaming. The wii-Mote is incredibly intuitive, and thus having to learn where x O square and triangle buttons are completely unnecessary.

It seems that they should just stick to doing what they do best. Great hardcore games, and keep trying to improve their XNA stuff.

]]>
<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on GTA IV Takes Over Los Angeles Hotel]]> @Ignatius:

Exactly my point. Those are moral objections we bring up with ourselves.

I'm not a violent person either, but do I have the potential to be? I'm not sure, usually those sorts of thoughts are very repressed because our moral compass and societal surroundings tell us to not think about that sort of thing.

I'm just glad I can act them out in a virtual world rather than a real one.

I think my point before was the notion of being able to do every bad thing you wanted to, is what scares people about GTA. well, the sort of people who get scared by a game like that.

You know? In counter strike, you shoot people because that's the point. You're supposed to. In GTA - you can kill indiscriminately. Whenever you'd like and in some pretty violent ways. (I prefer mowing the mobs down with a car)

I just like getting in the head of people who oppose violence in video games, and it seems to me that GTA seems to stand out more than others - even when it's not nearly as violent as other games.

]]>
<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on GTA IV Takes Over Los Angeles Hotel]]> oh I love those.
I've come up with a theory as to why Grand Theft Auto catches so much negative press.

To me, GTA is a life simulator. You could go around and basically get through the majority of the game with out killing people. Heck, even in GTA3 you could use the ambulance to save people.

No one mentions this.

There's a flaming lips song about how in your dreams if you hate your boss, then you can kill your boss and no one would ever know because it's all in your head.

I think because GTA lives up to our biggest and darkest fantasies.

Some people fantasize about killing people, but never do it because they have a moral objection to taking a life. In GTA, that barrier is taken away. The notion of free roaming about, using prostitutes and killing people and causing mayhem is such a strong notion in all of us - that it scares the average middle aged person.

It's not the content that bothers people (well, that's they'll tell you) - it's the notion that you can do it on your own time and at your own free will. You're not being forced to do those things. You're doing them on your own free will.

Ok, that was a bit more deep than my average kotaku post. But I just thought of that.

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on Red's 5k, 4k, and 3k Pro Cameras: What the Resolution Really Means]]> Ok, so why 3k and 5k?

Many reasons. You'll have way more cropping issues that won't degrade quality one bit.

Also it's much easier to composite CG elements onto video when the resolution is at this size.

Yes, you'll pair it down to braodcast specific hd signals - but that's not entirely the point. I's the insane detail you'll get when you need to perfectly blend cg elements with video..

Oh and yes - you do use a low rez proxy when you render and composite CG and video - but any time you take CG and scale it down - you'll be able to hide a ton of digital sins.

So, composite and edit with low rez proxies - but then render to full size. And then spit it out to whatever format you'd like.... for $3,000

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on Activision: Army Of Two, R6: Vegas 2 Fail]]> My guess is that COD's development studio has very little turn over - and therefore are able to work faster and get more done. and get a better product when everyone knows to communicate with each other.

Important lesson for the development community. Keep employees happy and your turnover will be smaller - and your return will grow exponentially.

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on A Little Cooking Help, Please?]]> I'm trying to remember what meats are available and cheap in japan.

but I'd say use some Rice sticks (rice noodles) and soak them into some water.

have a tbspn of butter and warm that up to just when it starts to smoke. (that's it's smoke point) and then add your lb of shrimp and onions and garlic and keep that going until your shrimp is cooked through.

Now, in the states I add a garlic chili sauce, I'm sure you can find something like that - although from a different non american brand that I use.

Find something like that, and then cool it down with a coconut milk. It's perfectly fine to use a light coconut milk if you can find it. the more milk you use, the cooler the temp will be.

I'm sure you can find a way to make your own garlic sauce as well if one isn't readily available.

Here's one I just googled up. Not sure what cayenne mash though is...
# Pepper Mash Method 2 Tbs. Cayenne Mash
# 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
# 1 ea. Plum Tomato
# 1/4 cup Distilled White Vinegar
# 1 tsp. Black Cumin
# 1/2 tsp. Curry Powder
# 1 tsp. Allspice
# 1 Tbs. Sugar
# 1/4 tsp. Salt

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on Atari Founder Working On An MMO]]> Nolan didn't really invent pong, that distincation goes to a fellow by the name of Al Alcorn. Al was the creator of pong, but he was partners with Nolan who owned Atari.

So, without Nolan there'd be no Al - but Al is an electrical engineer and Nolan wasn't. And it took an electrical engineer to produce the first versions of pong.

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on Hands On chumby Wi-Fi Widget Beanbag (Cuddly in More Ways Than One)]]> I got to play with a pre-alpha model, and I gotta say... Lots of cool things. The linux was pretty open, I seem to remember being able to root around the system files. The pre-alpha version had a telnet/ftp capability as well, that worked nicely.

My only problem was... I couldn't figure out why it was so useful. It was a neat toy, but beyond that - I couldn't figure out a great use. I mean. a bean bag clock? a timer? a calendar? These are all great, but not entirely something I want in a not so portable device.

The battery was horrible in the pre-alpha version, I'm assuming it was fixed for retail release.

<![CDATA[Biscuitcleaver commented on The Real Camera Behind Cloverfield]]> I was just thinking...

it's nearly impossible to track crappy footage for special effects.

I wonder if that was a consideration in making this film.

Either Thomson or Sony would be a good choice to film this, both cameras can detect quite a bit of information with very little light.

See the 'basement scene' of zodiac. That was shot with the Thomson Vipercam, and was lit with... 3 40 watt light bulbs.

That's it.
