While all us musicians are going crazy with all the music talk, I also highly recommend Carvin. They make every guitar custom made for you without leaving the triple digits. I don't like the designs as much as the more famous companies, but the sound and craftsmanship are superb. I had an old guitar teacher tell me that mine had the best sound he's heard in recent memory. They can also make every single instrument of theirs left-handed for no extra cost, so they were a godsend for me when I broke my old Epiphone Casino. Casino stock pick ups suck, by the way. They're like feedback magnets.

As for guitars to buy for children starting out, I'll always recommend that you buy them a piece of junk to start. Nothing over 200. That's the test. If they can overcome a craptastic guitar, they've earned the right to move on. They should also start out acoustic to build up their fingers.

The sad thing about Japan and global warming is that their interest is totally based on guilt. You go to Tokyo and the sky is gray and you can clearly smell sewage when going for walks. It's kind of similar in the states, since most of the environmentalists live in or were raised in dirty and overpopulated cities.

I just can't stand it when Japanese people try to be "eco", because this is a culture that considers driving with no destination to be a hobby(ドライブ). They'll even justify buying a purse because it's eco-friendly, or at least the manufacturer says so. They mean well, but it's just so ridiculously stupid.
