<![CDATA[baberg commented on The Last Remnant Now With Added English]]> Damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it!

I don't have time for this, Square Enix! I'm already playing through DQ4 again on the DS, my guild in Warhammer Online is outleveling me, I've barely scratched the surface of Rock Band 2, and I've got Disgaea 3 and Disgaea DS sitting on the shelf in shrinkwrap.

I don't have time for another game!

<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Is Online]]> I love that the first 50 comments are all praising the game for its new features, good RvR, and just overall "fun" feeling. Then one guy feels the need to shit all over the thread by proclaiming (without reasons) that it will fail.

Go somewhere else, troll.

Saturday: NHL 09 during the day, then watch my Buckeyes at 8:00

Sunday: Warhammer Online CE head-start, all day, fueled by Monster

<![CDATA[baberg commented on Spore Review: Evolutionary Creationism]]> I'm getting an "Unknown User" error on your "Spore Fun Achievement" link.

On-topic, I agree completely. It's a game that every gamer needs to play at least once to experience it but it's got some flaws. It's fun, it's engaging, and it's well worth the DRM headaches. But (despite what I hyped myself up for when it was first announced) it's not the end-all be-all game that I'll be playing for years. Months, maybe, but not years.

<![CDATA[baberg commented on WoW Opens Up PvE-to-PvP Transfers]]> Blizzard are really scared of Warhammer, aren't they? First they put out the pre-expansion patch with a ton of new features in it, then they announce the Recruit-a-friend, then they make PvE-to-PvP transfers possible.

You can't fault Blizzard for being shrewd, but it's really indicative of their feelings towards Warhammer that they're willing to make such sweeping changes to policy and their game just to out-trump Warhammer.

<![CDATA[baberg commented on Frankenreview: Spore]]> It seems a lot of people bought heavily into the hype and are being burned because of it. I was expecting a high quality game and I got it. I didn't get the final ultimate end-of-all-other-games game that some people seemed to expect.

Lesson learned, I hope.

<![CDATA[baberg commented on Five New Fallout 3 Gameplay Videos]]> My only concern: The videos were specifically tailored and cut with "fade-in" and "fade-out" right when the game would need to show us a big fat "LOADING..." screen.

I wonder how long it actually takes to load up some areas...

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on Frankenreview: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09]]> I picked this up as I'm a golf nut. Definitely better than the '08 offering, I'm still having a ton of fun with TW'09. My biggest problem with the earlier games was the AI's tendency to "catchup" to make things more "fun". I could go out and shoot -15 while the AI was floundering at -2 for the first day, then miraculously the next day they're all at -16 after their second round meaning I was forced to play every round in a tournament just to maintain position.

This year the simulated rounds are much better and the AI doesn't cheat - this means a 4-day tourney can now be simulated for the first 3 days (putting a high-stat golfer within a few shots of the lead) and then play the final round on Sunday to leap ahead of the other golfers. This makes it much easier to get money and much more fun to play through an entire season of golf.

<![CDATA[baberg commented on WoW Getting Lich King Content Early - Haircuts For Everybody!]]> @Mohican: I bet you have to be at the Gym in 26 minutes too, don't you?

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on WoW Getting Lich King Content Early - Haircuts For Everybody!]]> @Mohican: They aren't pushing anything out, the patch doesn't even have a date yet.

Internally I'm sure it does - September 16th, 2 days before Warhammer launches.

Blizzard aren't stupid. They know that Warhammer will at least temporarily eat into their subscription numbers and are doing what they can to make sure people have something "new" to come back to if they only partially like WAR.

<![CDATA[baberg commented on Invaders! Indeed No Longer Playable At GC 08]]> I haven't commented on this yet, nor do I think anybody will read back 165 comments to see this. But I don't care.

F this guy.

He knew what he was doing when he created it. He knew it would stir controversy and that people would be offended. He knew exactly what he was doing and he enjoyed it. And now he hides behind the "Don't censor art" crap.

There's a reason nobody makes video games about the Holocaust, you know.

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on New Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Cinematic Trailer]]> @FreakyFavabean: Also, I'm glad to see that the dwarfs seem to be more than just comic relief. That one with the shotgun, blowing away the Orcs one by one? Bad ass. If I play thins game, I'm definitely one of those guys. Although the Chaos warrior and the fire breathing wizard were awesome too. And what the hell was up with that goblin?

The Dwarf was an Engineer - they're ranged DPS and can create stationary turrets to help keep DPS up and guard important points. The turrets die pretty quickly though, so it's not too imbalanced. There are several types of turrets to deploy, including flamethrowers.

The goblin was a Squig Herder, also ranged DPS - essentially a WoW Hunter, except with the Warhammer beasts called Squigs. Squigs come in all shapes and colors but don't "level up" like pets in WoW. Squigs can be direct damage or AOE poison, or several others too. They're especially annoying when they get on your healers.

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on New Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Cinematic Trailer]]> I love all of the subtle humor. The orcapult tossing an orc onto the rooftops at 2:25, the orc hammering the human into the steps by his torso, and of course the Squig Herder just being a funny little goblin.

WAR is worth a look, everybody, if only to see how PvP can be done right.

<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Latest Game To Dog Former Devs In Credits]]> @antialias02: I develop software for a living - software used by thousands of people every day - but my name is *nowhere* on the product. At all.

It's the policy of the company that I work for that we never sign our names to the source code we write - the code is created by the company, not by a particular person.

I'm with you - I don't see why having your name in the credits is such a big deal. If you left Mythic in the middle of developing Warhammer, odds are it's because you picked up another job doing something else so the issue of "Were you really working for Mythic?" becomes completely moot. And if they really did wonder, that's why Mythic has an HR department.

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Latest Game To Dog Former Devs In Credits]]> @boopadoo: why shouldn't it be just as important for the people that devoted months of their lives to the product?

Well, for one, they didn't see it through to the end. Whether by their own choice or circumstances out of their control, they left the job. That can and does affect schedules, morale, general cohesiveness, and on top of it all now they have to recruit, hire, and train a new person to take over the job that is now vacant.

This smells like a corporate policy from EA that if you left the company before a certain date, you don't get credit. Rather than open up the company to lawsuits for "I worked for X years, but person Y worked for fewer years, yet he's in the credits and I'm not". So instead there is a single cut-off date which I'm sure is spelled out in the company policy.

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Latest Game To Dog Former Devs In Credits]]> @jaz: ...if the employee was laid off or fired, they were in the credits. If they left of their own accord, they weren't

That sounds about right. I'm not a game developer but I do work in software, and I know that even people who leave amicably (whatever that can mean) always, always, always leave work unfinished at best and completely wrong at worst.

I'm not saying that this particular developer did or did not do that, but there's no way for us to know what really happened inside Mythic.

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Open Beta Details Revealed]]> @MarionBarryHussein: EA purchases Mythic. The main designer associated with Mythic leaves within weeks.

He was the Producer (big-think type stuff, like Shiggy or Kojima) and he left because he and his wife just adopted two Russian children.

But whatever. If the NDA does drop tomorrow there will be plenty of screenshots, videos, and testimonials to praise WAR - and there will also be plenty of gripes and detractors too. Figure out who's the fanboys and who's not, then go from there.

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Open Beta Details Revealed]]> @deathbunny: I've had a great deal of difficulty leveling a character up into the teens, simply because I lose interest quickly. To kind of calibrate what I'm saying--I played AoC, and enjoyed it alot early on, and then lost interest when content ran out at higher levels (and I was frustrated by the direction the balancing and patching was taking). So it's not like I'm generally MMO adverse. At least early on.

That interests me - what MMOs have you played that you kept playing until the endgame? WoW? Everquest? DAoC? None of the above?

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Open Beta Details Revealed]]> @fdisk: Open Beta only if you pay them $5 or more (Pre-order minimum at EB last time I checked).

Mythic doesn't get that money. EBGames/BestBuy/whoever does.

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Open Beta Details Revealed]]> @Xeddicus: Apparently the low level PvP is horribly broken to favor ranged classes, so if you don't want to be a ranged class no WAR for you.

So your brother, judging by 5 hours of low-level PvP (he couldn't have gone beyond rank 6) has already decided that the game is broken and cannot be fixed.

I don't think the problem is in the game.

]]>
<![CDATA[baberg commented on Warhammer Online Open Beta Details Revealed]]> Mythic defines "Open Beta" as "Beta without an NDA", just like "Closed Beta" is "Beta with an NDA".

And don't bother arguing with fdisk. He's clearly already made up his mind.
