<![CDATA[Zombie_Crunch commented on Mirror's Edge Motion Sickness]]> I had huge motion sickness problems with Bioshock, Halo 3 and UTIII. I've found that dropping the controller sensitivity seems to fix it. Usually it's a function of my inability to keep my view straight. too much wall-and-floor quick turning makes me want to barf.

Consequently it took me 7 months to get around to beating Bioshock. What a disappointing ending. And I got the GOOD one.

<![CDATA[Zombie_Crunch commented on Rock Band 2's Guitar Is Easy On The Eye]]> This is the EXACT SAME guitar in a different color...Who cares about this? I'm sick of buying peripherals I don't need. Between 3 systems I have like 6 plastic guitars and 2 sets of drums (thanks to an EA repair shipping mix-up). When are we going to stop and say, "You know, we made the game we set out to make, now let's just populate it with DLC and cut out the hardware game."? Do they have any idea how expensive it is to be an early adopter?

Whatever. I'm kinda sick of rhythm games at this point, anyway.

<![CDATA[Zombie_Crunch commented on GH Aerosmith's Saving Grace: Run DMC]]> @etchasketchist: "Just an excuse to exclude artists of color"....

This argument has gone on way too long. This will be the last time I address it.

What would you say the signature sound of rock music is? Distorted guitars, mostly 4/4 timing, guitar solos, blended/mixed out bass guitars, loud forefront vocals, and sometimes offkey yelling or screaming to name a few. R&B and funk are both often accentuated with fatter, more leading basslines; they also typically demonstrate knowledge of more than 1 time signature; and separately, they have qualities that even differentiate them from each other. There is a large difference in the instrumental, vocal, and engineering choices of Rock bands vs. Funk, soul or R&B bands.

You can listen to Metal, Punk ROCK, emo ROCK, classic ROCK, hard ROCK, or glam ROCK (Notice how they all have ROCK in the title?) and hear a common thread. If you want to suggest that Metallica sounds anything like the Parliament Funkadelic, I suggest you listen more closely.

And don't put words in my mouth - I didn't say that they need to get their own game. You just shouldn't cry racism just because a game that bases itself on one genre of music left out other genres, some of which happen to be dominated by black people.

I'm sick of talking about this now, and I'm sure everyone else is sick of reading it, so in the interest of moving on with our lives - you know everything, and I'm a racist. Thanks for clearing that up, dude.

]]>
<![CDATA[Zombie_Crunch commented on GH Aerosmith's Saving Grace: Run DMC]]> @Lazlo: I did not say that "black people only rap and whatnot." That is a ridiculous twisting of my words. And futhermore, I said I'm aware that black people have contributed to rock and roll. SIDEBAR: The Roots are fucking awesome, but they don't play rock.

I agree with DaiMacculate on this. The bands that etchasketchist is mentioning are largely not rock and roll.

]]>
<![CDATA[Zombie_Crunch commented on GH Aerosmith's Saving Grace: Run DMC]]> @etchasketchist: I think that's an unfair statement. It's GUITAR Hero and ROCK band, not MC Hero and RAP Band. That's not to say that black people haven't made significant contributions to rock music, but I'm hard pressed to remember many people who are considered rock legends who were black. The only reason that Hendrix isn't a part of the GH/RB series is because it's too expensive, not because he's black.

Besides Hendrix I can only think of a few people who would reasonably be considered. Chuck Berry was a great guitar player, but none of the music selections go back that far, and besides that it would be really difficult to get master tracks that were that old. BB King was another totally amazing guitarist, but the game isn't called Blues Hero, either.

Aerosmith are white. Led Zeppelin are White. Pink Floyd are white. Kiss are White. The Who are white. The Dire Straights are white. ZZ Top are white. Motley Crue are white. Van Halen Are white. Iron Maiden are white. Nirvana are White...I think you get the point. I left out Carlos Santana, who is Hispanic.

These are just a few of the bands you think of when you think of rock legends, and they all have something in common - They're not black. I think the games represent the music pretty well. The most they can do is to add songs made by more black rock musicians, I just think they're harder to come by.

If you feel like you were slighted, perhaps you should write Activision / EA.

]]>
<![CDATA[Zombie_Crunch commented on GH Aerosmith's Saving Grace: Run DMC]]> @etchasketchist: @flukielukie:

@spork:
Wow, I didn't expect such backlash for saying that. but to explain, I was just trying to be funny. You're right, I know games well. Probably too well, in fact. So well that before this video came out, I already knew who Iamchris4life was. I know because I am also pretty good at Guitar Hero. Good enough that none of my real life friends can beat me. It has taken inordinate amounts of time to learn to do just that. I can't imagine what this guy had to put in to be able to do that.

Part of my comment would is reflective of my raging jealousy. Yes, I know, the guy is fucking amazing.

It just seems that the time spent perfecting that had to have impeded on this guy's life in some way. I mean...Guitar Hero III came out in November.

So, Jesus Christ, relax. Sometimes I pop in and say silly things. It doesn't mean I hate gaming or gamers, or that I think gaming is stupid. It can sometimes be wasteful, and sometimes I spend more time playing games than I feel like I should. Anyway, hopefully that clears some things up.
