Look at that fucking hipster.
@mrantimatter: Not so much. The characters in Dragon Age and Mass Effect explain what different made up technobabel is in general conversation, at least at a basic, functional level. FF fails at that completely. I didn't even know that Cocoon had their own Fal'Cie until like 12 hours into the game. And I definitely didn't know that they depended on them for food, water, and air in Cocoon. It was made pretty apparent after those 12 hours... but you're expected to know that information after about 4. Those codex entries are available in like, chapter 3. They're so wrapped up in this universe that they've created that they couldn't take a step back and see how complicated it is to someone who isn't intimately familiar with it's political machinations.
@mrantimatter: The fact that you basically have to read the huge codex entries to understand any of the backstory which is essential to your comprehension of the plot is terrible. They don't organically give you the information you need, they shoehorn it into those sections. What's even worse than that is the dialog. It's filled with sayings that were likely corny in Japanese that have only gotten worse through translation. Put it next to the dream segments of Lost Odyssey or, god forbid, a book like Kafka on the Shore and you'll immediately realize that Japan needs to start hiring people who have written things other than videogames and anime. Japanese has a great tradition of amazing storytelling and literature. The videogame industry is leveraging none of that. Yeah, you can say that about western games too, but I think the writing in them is generally much tighter in them than in Japanese games. Well, at least for games that are primarily a story based experience, like RPGs.
@mrantimatter: Just because it's explained doesn't make it passable writing. FFXIII's plot is terrible. There are some really cool ideas when you look at it from a general perspective, and there are a few characters that really click, but for the most part it's generic anime drivel.
Considering how extensively I had to rely on that wiki to get through even half of that game, this seems like a great solution. That game is not only difficult, but also explains very little. While that definitely adds to the atmosphere, it's nice to have something to look at to explain the statistical backbone of the game when you start playing it seriously. That was definitely the wiki when I started playing, so this seems like it might actually be helpful to new players, unlike most guides that offer mostly common sense solutions.
I think how they behave with EA will determine how people view the whole Activision debacle in hindsight. If they douche it up at EA and end up putting out a subpar product... Maybe, as much as it pains me to say this, Activision was right.
Amazon had these for 60 bucks yesterday, I picked one up. Any impressions of the stick from anyone who had purchased one earlier?
@ShaggE wants to join the Egg Council.: This is why I really enjoyed playing multiplayer in Pandora Tomorrow. Nothing is more intelligent than another human, whether they be playing a guard or a spy. Too bad idiots messed that game up with deathmatch. No no no. Some kid yelled at me and a friend for shooting him through the ceiling when he was a spy, killing him. He had his goggles on, which made him show up when we were looking for EMPs. It was too complicated for him to learn the rules I guess. The issue with games like that is that they become too niche and the community dies in most cases, or the game turns into something else that the majority wants, ie people making up their own rules and playing deathmatch instead. #army
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): Actually the US Army's Interceptor armor covers the groin, neck and upper arms as well. They found that being shot from the side could cause the bullet to ricochet within the body armor, shredding internal organs. So now they added those deltoid pads. Groin and neck seem to be added because they don't hurt mobility much at all and provide additional protection. #modernwarfare2
Oh for the love of god everyone. Click through to the original. "NARUTO CHANGED MY LIFE!" I can't stop laughing. To be fair, she is 16. But still!
@DynaBlade: Actually just beat it like half an hour ago. It's fantastic, although that last boss battle felt kind of out of character for the rest of the game. I've only got about 20 riddles to solve to. Gah!
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: If that's at the department level, that could be stunningly realistic.
Wow. Crazy town confirmed. While I personally have never gotten incredibly angry at a game, I have friends who will pitch fits... that said, I'm pretty sure you cut that shit out when the cops show up.
@octalass: Honestly, has anyone played a lot of Wii games lately? My wii is at my parent's house overseas right now, so maybe I'm biased...

Jeff also talked about this on the Bombcast, and yeah, as far as games on the Wii go, this one isn't terrible by comparison to generic mini-game collection #3. But if you gave it classic controls, or put it out on another system it would be a huge steaming turd. Basically, he thinks that just because it's on the Wii and its target demo isn't soccer moms, that shouldn't automatically make it a good game.

@MellowJade: Any more? They never worked. At least not on any girl you would want to pick up.
The real question for me is why would I pay for more real boxers when I can download pretty damn good ones that people have made? Hell, I had Obama take on Bill Clinton last night, followed by a Rocky Balboa vs. Bill Murray smackdown.
@Jonbo298: Bingo. Between best buy's 10 dollar sale and that, I was able to get 30 dollar fight night.
@C_MaN15: You just can't really expect tons of new releases. If you're like me and you watch tons of movies, this isn't a huge loss. I've got 184 things in my instant queue now, ready to go. You just have to poke around the service a bit to find good stuff.
That's absolutely tragic.
