What gets me is how people are freaking out that their name is on display: A google for an email address, a Whois if they have a blog/website, shooting in the dark by searching random Facebook names and you can get peoples identities. If you want to get deeper into this, your IP address can pull up all this infomation by the goverment, and that is recorded on EVERY website you visit.
All this will prove is do the people on the internet who threaten others actually have the ball's to say it to someone directly knowing their name?
And no, don't use the Blizzard employee example, people DELIBERATELY went after him to get his infomation to disprove Blizzard: Chances are if you've got 400 replies in a thread you're not going to get some person stalk you, and even if they are: what's different to a normal person in everyday life you may know that could stalk you? Oh that's right, you WOULDN'T know.
How many forums, surveys, freebie offers, forms, questionnaires and what-ever have you filled out in your life time? most of them will have your name on. It pisses me off how many people believe their name is so private, if you worked in retail you'd have a name badge on, if you ring up any customer support lines you have to give over details (if you're buying something you have to give your cc details) over the phone to some person you don't know but you're not bothered about that?
