@Nonmelodic: It seemed like a cool game, but I was never interested enough to pick it up. I liked the concept of having an open mountain to snowboard down, though I never got the chance to try it out to see if it was worth the investment.
The thing about it that sticks out most in my mind, though, is the trailer they released of the snowball-throwing race mode, or whatever it was. The trailer made it look very un-fun.
@I_MAED_A_NICKNAME_WITH_Z0MBI3S: As far as TFU 2 goes, it seems to have the same awkward controls the first one had (based on my time with the demo). They seem to have fixed the targeting (by making it invisible - you don't think about it, you just do it), but overall the controls just feel...not snappy.
@darthpepito: I had a creeper randomly show up in my basement/mine, so I started spamming torches. I later looked up the exact criteria for mob spawns, and a simple rule is that enemy mobs cannot spawn within six meters of a torch.
The numbers behind it are helpful to know, but the basic rule I've come up with is: in a straight line, a torch every 12 blocks will keep you safe. Drawing a diagram, or at least keeping a mental map in mind could help eliminate any potential enemy spawns.
@September: Wait, all your stuff vanishes forever? Whenever I've died, I just went and grabbed my stuff from where my body sprayed it. Granted, I've been very cautious, so I haven't died much, but I thankfully didn't lose everything.
@KingHippo: I remember Dukakis saying that if you click the timestamp of a comment, then change the url to a Gawker site where you don't have a star (but leaving the rest of the address intact), you can reply without promoting.
I have no way of checking this myself, but I hope it helps =)
@StephenK: You didn't even look up crafting recipes? I spent the first few nights desperately barricaded in a 1x1x2 cubbyhole, but I did look up how to build a work bench, among other things. I don't know how I would've gotten by without that.
@Blobdude: Not to nitpick, but Kotaku does auto-shorten URLs. Their auto-shortening is nice, because a mouseover reveals the target; when you click a bit.ly link, you never know where you're going to end up.
Thank you for those links, though. I am not familiar with that site, and they provided some nice backstory on the situation.
@Brandon Fletcher: It seems safe to assume it will, though I've heard no confirmation. Burnout Paradise did, at least, and I think it's been standard with most racing games released in the last couple of years - I can attest to Blur, Split/Second and Midnight Club LA supporting custom soundtracks.
@Vanderblade: Plus, 360 gets unrestricted access to Rock Band Network. As a PS3 RB player, our "RBN Selected Picks" (or whatever) makes me :sad panda:.
@[N7]Violent's In Silence: I picked up Moxxi's and haven't touched the arenas. I think everyone would be more kindly disposed towards them if you earned XP, but to my knowledge, you just get a couple of skillpoints at the end, right?
@lazyhermit: Ooh, nice. I've been holding off on that one...probably will keep holding off, though, since I have too many other things to play. I have a back-library a couple of years long ;_;
@ashthrace: Aw, that's sad. To be honest, there's no really good reason to hold off on preordering from Amazon, as they don't charge you anything until they ship it, so it's best to just put the order in when you see a deal you like.
I'm guilty of putting things off like that too, though; I missed the preorder bonuses with Vanquish because I put it off until just a couple weeks before launch. I guess the reason I held off was because I wasn't sure if I wanted it or not, but that seems like a really silly dilemma now.
For reference, if you suddenly decide that you don't want the game really close to launch (and they tell you it's too late to cancel), they'll usually help you out if you email them. I did that when I preordered ModNation Racers, because I decided that Grand Theft Equine was a more pressing need.
@Carey.Laius: I was so confused the first time I took advantage of one of those offers, because I didn't get any automatic confirmation other than "trust us, it's there." So I sent an email and a support representative just said "trust us, it's there."
They've improved the visibility somewhat now, though; if you click Payment Options (or whatever) when you're checking out, it lists your promo credit, and you can choose whether to use it or not.
@Xusder: Huh. I'd wondered about the viability of swapping out an iPod Classic's hard drive (mine broke a year ago, and I've had hell trying to get Best Buy to honor my warranty), but I hadn't considered replacing the software. I hadn't even thought about anyone doing that, though it makes perfect sense now.
...And of course, there's a Linux distro for it, but that looks like more trouble than it's worth.
