I like the quake family tree post and decided to submit "Enemy Territory:Quake Wars" it uses the idtech4 engine with "megatexture".

Total dark is made of the absence of light.
White is made of the abscence of colored paint on a white background.
This mix of all colours gets a brownism ugly brown.
