See this right here? What you said? That's the POINT of why a lot of people are pissed at Lucas, because he's going out of his way to never allow the past versions to be seen again. And it's really upsetting when he says things like "Blade Runner has gotten recut three ways from Sunday, and nobody seems to mind." because he still doesn't understand why people are upset. And what makes it so much worse is that there's NO REASON NOT TO RELEASE THEM. NONE. AT ALL. WHAT-SO-FUCKING-EVER. They are guaranteed to make money. Instantly. The only reason not to do it is because of his ego. Even Quesada screwing with Spidey with OMD, as much as I hate that (seriously it's my least favorite event in comics history and I stopped buying it immediately after OMD) did not go out of his way to make the previous Spidey comics unavailable.
That's the problem, and it's insulting not as a Star Wars fan but as a movie fan, a fan who recognizes that Lucas did not create Star Wars all by himself, that other people helped with this creation, other directors & editors & screen play writers. It's an insult to them more than it is the fans, and judging by the evidence presented by the prequels, the changes, his comments when asked questions, it's become painfully evident that while Lucas had the spark that created the Star Wars universe, he had very little to do with making them the films that people grew up loving.
It's not about "Lucas raping our childhood" but more about him going out of his way to deny it to people and calling us idiots for liking it! Star Trek, especially the Next Gen, is not only giving us back our childhood but going out of their way to enhance the look of the original effects.
"In a new interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Lucas addresses those longstanding complaints, saying that Blade Runner has gotten recut three ways from Sunday, and nobody seems to mind."
...and do you know WHY nobody seems to mind? Ahem... BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF BLADE RUNNER IS STILL ALLOWED TO BE SEEN AND WAS RELEASED.
SEE? When they release the collectors edition on Blu Ray, they put in it just about every version of the film. Notice how they don't insult your fucking intelligence by forcing you to watch a version you might not want to watch. Notice how they give you a choice. People might still complain about the changes, cause bitchers gonna bitch, but if you actually released the original versions and not spit on the hard movie making work of other people who helped make the movies we love, then their bitching would truly be invalid.
As for Han Solo, as a kid I thought he shot first because, well you know, Greedo was clearly going to kill him so he just shot him first. It made sense to me then and I never thought he was a cold-blooded killer. i just interpreted it as a matter of survival in a "wretched hive of scum and villainy." Of course, what do I know. It's a good thing Han didn't shoot first, because not only would he have been a vicious murderer, but then he couldn't see how piss poor Greedo's aim truly was at point blank range.
As for the costume....really? No offense, but I think you're taking things to the absolute extreme here. The general look of it is still the same and nowhere near as different as the recent costume change for it, or the one they tried to pull in the 70's. I mean her costume has changed throughout the years and there hasn't been any real explanation or change accept for the MAJOR ones. The alterations in her new costume are not major at all and are ten times better than what they gave her previous to this. Batman's costume has changed for using blue to dark blue to black for the cape, cowl, boots and gloves to having light gray, dark gray, or black for the tights/armor as well. Are the boots changing from red to blue that big a deal? Or changing the gold to silver? I'll agree that the choker is pretty silly, but otherwise I really don't see how the costume warrants that much level of distaste. But to each their own.
As for the origin, Superman's origin has changed over the years countless times. The core of it has remained the same, but there are always certain differences in the Kryptonians themselves or how the planet was destroyed and his history growing up and what happens to the Kents. Green Lantern's origin has changed over the years in terms of his training, Abin Sur's relationship to Sinestro, Sinestro himself, and so on. In terms of most superheroes, I'd say the two most constants are probably Batman & The Flash. Yeah, this is a different change for Wonder Woman but whether it's better or worse is in the eye of the beholder. While I prefer the clay aspect, I really like how Diana dealt with this then realized that her mother was still her mother. It showed a lot more honest emotion out of her than I've seen in a long time regarding her relationship with her. Again though, to each his own.
Listen, in the long run DC is trying to gain more money and new readership in an industry that's dying. While it's working now, it won't in the long run because quite frankly, whether DC or Marvel, comics are way too expensive nowadays. Except for comic book nerds & collectors, who the fuck is spending $3-$5 dollars for a single issue of an incomplete story which you need to buy 6-8 issues of for the complete story. When you do the math, it's absolutely idiotic and it's clearly the main problem as to why the industry is dying. Both are trying to go digital and it's a step in the right direction, but they HAVE to lower the price or come up with a new pricing structure in order to compete against all the other entertainment distractions out there like video games & the internet itself. If comics were $1 again for a digital issue, I'd bet good money the industry would see a surge. Or maybe a $10-$15 a month subscription fee for the entire Marvel or DC lineup. Hell, keep that and just come out with trades seeing as how that's what the majority of comics are written for anyway. Whatever they do, it just absolutely CANNOT continue along the current path or you'll see changes like this from both companies all the time, as well as more huge bullshit crossover events, and eventually the changes to Wonder Woman won't matter because the industry will die.
