He likely died because of that. As for why it's centered on Earth, Mass Effect has always been a human based story, focused on humans and their expansion into the stars. More then that, it's centered on one man who to -him- Earth means something.

The first one was HORRIFICALLY -bad- with design choices that made no sense, grinding that would make a Korean MMO blush and combat that dragged on even with the use of the 'fast forward' button. Idea Factory, Compile Heart and it's cohorts in JRPG design have proven time and time again they can only make DLC loaded shitfests that only the most die hard otaku will enjoy. To the rest of you, please save your money.
