]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on E3: Dud or a Blast?]]> A lot of what Sony announced at last year's E3 still isn't available yet.

I think that maybe Microsoft had the right idea only talking about products that would be available in 2007 last year. Less hype, more substance.

<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Lego Indiana Jones Demo On Xbox Live]]> The only issue I have with the game is that it will lock up if you try to enter free play soon after starting up the game.

The way to get around it is to wander the college until you see a ton of characters in the open areas. Then you can start up free play without it locking up.

Hopefully they will patch that one. Lots of people are having this issue.

<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Lego Indiana Jones Demo On Xbox Live]]> I'm having a blast playing Lego Indiana Jones with my 5 year old son.

The puzzles are a bit harder in this one. The levels all look awesome. The weapons are great.

I only wish they had included the online multiplayer of "The Complete Saga" in this game. No idea why they decided to let that feature disappear.

Lego Star Wars was essentially a kids game that adults also found to be a hell of a lot of fun. Lego Indy is essentially the same. And kids will love it. But now the adults that liked LSW are complaining that Indy is more of the same. Well...no crap! What the hell did you expect? It is a great formula, and they did a great job converting these movies into a Lego game.

It's not true. My 360 got the RROD last November. I got it back in 2 weeks and it has been rock solid ever since.

<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Race Driver: GRID Multiplayer Details]]> @selfhatingotaku: Well duh. It was supposed to be funny. :) And it was supposed to get you to buy GRID, which it may have just done for me.

However, those "crashes" in GT5 were about as lame as can be. They looked like billiard balls. I had no idea it was that bad. I know it doesn't have damage, and I know it is supposedly coming in an update, but the crashes don't have to be THAT unrealistic. They could at least model some measure of deceleration instead of having the cars use statics equations that I learned in physics 101.

<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face]]> @kingmanic: The Falcon is basically all that is available in retail right now. Where have you seen the older Xenon based 360s recently?

All the ones I've seen have had the 175W power supply that indicates that it is a Falcon in the box.

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face]]> @Candlejack: "Unfortunately, that joke is still very much accurate. There was no magic RROD fix that people dream and speak about. There was none. Full stop. The 65nm chips that were supposed to launch in 360s last year this time were postponed to what, 2009? Sony is already in the process of introducing 45nm chips, and modern PC hardware already builds chips that way. Hey, awesome 2006 technology called. :/"

Uhh, no. The current Falcon 360s have a 65nm CPU and an 80nm GPU. Both are shrunk from the launch CMOS technology of 90nm. These started appearing in stores around August last year.

Here are pictures of the smaller processors:

I'm sure that MS is also in the process of shrinking their chips down to 45nm. It will be a while before you see 45nm chips out of either MS or Sony, however. Trust me.

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face]]> @Sloopydrew: You can already use your own photos as wallpaper on the 360.

[downloads.teamxbox.com]

Basically, you just browse to your desired photo and hit X to make it your dashboard wallpaper.

I have a custom gamertile on my system that I created using the XBox camera. Only my friends can see it, though.

As for the user created in game content, I think that Forza 2 and Halo 3 are great examples of how this is being done with relative ease on the 360. The web interface that is used to download new Halo 3 games, modified maps, and videos is just about perfect. The Forza 2 auction house is another innovative way to share in game content.

But basically, it is up to the game developer to create this stuff. I think that MS is currently at the forefront of easily accessible user created content. But other developers have to catch up, even on the 360.

And no, transferring one mod at a time to my PS3 for use in UT3, all the while hoping that one of the mods won't crash the game, is not easily accessible. :( I sure do wish they would fix that mod import system.

<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face]]> @Murmaider: "You said that there was NO in game communication on PSN."

Is that what this is about? You need to go back and read my comment again. I never said that.

I said:
"No communication with players in other games."

"Other games" is the key, here.

Meaning that if you are in Motorstorm, you can't talk to someone playing Unreal Tournament III. So it makes getting games together a real pain. Better to use a phone than to try and use the PS3's communication.

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face]]> @Murmaider: "Wireless bluetooth headset. You know, the one that comes with the disc copy of Warhawk? You can use it to talk to people online - in game communication."

GT5:P and Hot Shots Golf both have zero voice communication in game. Doesn't matter if you have a bluetooth headset or not.

MS forces developers to include voice communication in every game.

Sony does not, obviously. So whether or not a PS3 game has voice communication ends up depending on the developer and the game. This sort of inconsistency is not good for the user.

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face]]> PSN isn't anywhere near 90% of where XBox Live is. No cross game invites. No communication with players in other games. Server browsers in games instead of matchmaking. I've tried setting up Motorstorm and UT3 games with my friends, and it is a nightmare.

It is better to use a cell phone to set up a game on PSN than to use the console.

And every game has a completely different set of features that are supported. There are multiplayer PS3 games being launched that don't have any voice communication.

Sony doesn't force their developers to support these features by default. While that may be good for the developer, it sure isn't good for gamers. Hell, they don't even force game developers to use PSN (Metal Gear Online's 3 gamer IDs come to mind).

Pocketbike Racer, a $3.99 game from Burger King has better online communication than Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. That's just sad.

Look at that. Online multiplayer with leaderboards and voice support.

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face]]> @NoMoreTrolls: The PS2 did have an online system set up. So was the XBox. Microsoft just went the extra mile.

Regardless of whether you feel that Sony started their online stuff in the past generation or this generation, there is no excuse for Sony's service to be as bad as it is right now. 1.5 years after launch, 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through this generation, and Sony has done nothing to improve the online gameplay experience of the PS3. Nothing.

There have been lots of promises, but no results.

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face]]> @bkchurch: "O and almost forgot. He called out the PS3s online service but apparently forgets it took them an entire console generation to get XBL where it is today. Give Sony time they'll get there, and I wager it will be by the end of this year."

The PS2 was online, too. It has taken Sony an entire console generation to get where PSN is today, and it is pathetic.

It isn't Microsoft's fault that Sony made a horribly gimpy PS2 service.

<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on THQ Gets Marvel License - Sort Of]]> I actually thought that Spider-Man: Friend or Foe was a pretty decent game. It was pretty easy, but in the same way that the Lego Star Wars games are easy. It is just right for kids. The combos could be very fun. And the collecting and leveling up of the characters was perfect.

In all, a really decent beat-em-up!

<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on PlayTV Hits Europe In September]]> @GOD: Where have you seen that it can record while playing a game or watching a Blu-Ray?

Last report I saw said that it could not.

And wow, 3 whole HD channels. :)

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on PlayTV Hits Europe In September]]> @Ungruntled: "Best thing about it though, in my opinion, will be the ability to log into my PS3 while away from home using the PSP (over a wi-fi connection) and tell it what programs to record. That's pretty cool."

Most DVRs already have this feature, but it isn't tied to just one portable device. I can do this with my DirecTV DVR using a web page interface. Hell, I can even set up a recording using my mobile phone, which doesn't even require a wifi connection. Firewalls also won't get in the way with a web interface.

If you forget to bring your PSP with you (who totes their honkin' PSP everywhere, anyway?), or can't find a wifi access point, you're sunk.

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on PlayTV Hits Europe In September]]> I don't get why you would want a DVR that can't record your favorite TV show while you are playing a game or watching a Blu-Ray. Seems pointless to me.

<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Wii Fit To Little Girl: "You're Fat"]]> @Patient: "According to NHANES:
In 1965 the average weight for a 10 year old girl was 77.4lbs.
In 2002 the average weight for a 10 year old girl was 87.9lbs."

But the average height of a 10 year old girl in 1963 was 4'7.5".
The average height of a 10 year old girl in 2002 was 4'8.4".

People are getting taller.

This girl is 4'9". So she is above the average for height. She should also be above the average for weight, as well.

You can't use a height and a weight to tell if someone is overweight.

]]>
<![CDATA[Rectangle commented on Wii Fit To Little Girl: "You're Fat"]]> Nintendo makes video games. Wii Fit is a video game.

A video game isn't going to make you "fit."

Nor can a video game tell you if you are overweight or not.

Nintendo is just selling their scale to be more than it actually is.

On the PS3, edges are much smoother and the game "looks" better."

The 360 version uses 2x anti-aliasing. The PS3 uses NO anti-aliasing. Instead, they used a blur filter over the whole image to hide the lower resolution and the lack of AA.
