@Tatsuya: Haha very crafty, you sly pootz. They ended up canceling the order and just getting Mass Effect 2.
This reminds me of the time I asked for Conker's Quest when I was about 9 or so years old. Rare ended up canceling it and turning it into Conker's Bad Fur Day. Since my uncle couldn't find Conker's Quest anywhere, he got me Quest 64. Close enough. A quest is a quest.
So, I asked for Mass Effect 2 from my mom for Christmas. After looking on Amazon, she comes to my room and asks, "Did you mean Mass Effect 3?" "No, Mass Effect 2." "Well the third one is coming out later this month." "No, it's not coming out for a while." "Are you sure? It said it right on the site." "Yeah, I'm sure. I would have known." "Will you be sad if you don't get the third one on Christmas?" "No, because they haven't even made it yet."
So a few minutes later I hear a discussion between my mom and my sister from upstairs. "So does he want the third one?" "He doesn't believe you. He said it's not coming out now." "It says it right here!"
Too busy with the school work I was doing to resolve the case and see what they were talking about, I ignored them. An hour later, I find out that they ordered Mass Effect 3. Confused, I go on Amazon. Release: December 2011. One-year-in-advance preorder YEAAAAH.
Has anyone else's parents/family done anything funny like this when buying games for you?
@Stephen Totilo: I know this is from almost an entire month ago, but I was just thinking - how awkward is it working in the same space as the Fleshbot editors? Considering their line of work...
I'm actually really impressed that they're having a gay man host the show. I would've thought Spike would be too concerned about their "manly" image to do that. +1 for Spike
I did a little laughter-gasp upon seeing #17, and then felt awful for having fused any of my gasp with laughter. I'm certainly not the oversensitive, easily-offended type, but I still think it's in poor taste. I would've expected to see something like this on 4chan, not Kotaku. But hey, I did get a little (guilty) chuckle out of it, after all.
Anyone know their target demographic? Gamers tend to ridicule the show to no end, and I don't know why non-gamers would care who gets to become a game tester.
@TokoYami200: Thank you! I borrowed it from my friend. When you turn it on and press its hands, its cheeks light up and it says "Pika!" in a multitude of ways. The Togepi is mine, though. This is the first time it's seen the light of day in about 10 years or so. It finally re-hatched, but this time from a box in my garage.
I...I don't even...I can't even... I don't get this. How does Sony usually go about finding its game testers? A classifieds ad? A secret organization of in-the-know people who have already dabbled in the field? Do the testers have to know any programming or game design concepts? Or do they just take normal people because normal people are going to be playing the games when they're released? Anyone know?
It's premature of me to say this because I really don't know what qualifications are needed for game testing (which appear to be nothing much considering the contestants aren't actually being judged on anything important), but a whole show for a title of "game tester" seems a bit much. Ah, reality television...
PS - McWhertor, tell Adrianne to gtfo; you're looking far too fine in that dapper attire for her Peter-Brady tastes. You're much more suited to my needs. wut.
I read 01. Pokemon Black / White (DS) - 232,000 / 3,993,000 as Black having sold 232,000 units and white having sold 3,993,000 units. "What do the Japanese have against Black? Racists." And then I realized that mentally disabled.
@AtlasAgreed: Oh geez, I don't know if I can decide.
In no particular order: - SSX Tricky (GCN) - Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Ratchet and Clank: FToD - SSBB - Pokemon D/P/Pt - Phantasy Star Online: Episodes 1 and 2 (GCN) - Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards - Mass Effect - Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - Batman Arkham Asylum (PS3)
Guaranteed I'm missing a few, but those are my favorites off the top of my head. Actually, I don't know :/ it feels wrong not having Mario 64 on that list. I'd need to have all my games in front of me to decide. Also, Mario Party 5, 6, and 7 provided for some very fun late nights. And then there's OoT and Majora's Mask. Hmm...now I really want to make a definitive list.
@WhatTheFrag: Indeed! I have to not write when I wake up from naps. I'm always in a seemingly high, sarcastic mood. Also, typos. "That twinkle in her ear"? Srsly, wtf is that. "Hey guys, I'm an old lady and I make crayons and my ears twinkle. Also I'm a Twilight vampire standing in sunlight."
@WhatTheFrag: I love the lady's face at 1:18. That twinkle in her ear and subtle bite of the lip speak volumes. She seems so amused and satisfied with a process she's become an old pro at, that still gives her all the joy in life that she'll ever need. No joy beats the eternal happiness and pleasure that comes naturally with crayon-wrapping.
I like it, except for the black around the top screen. I don't know why they insist on making the top inside half a separate color from the rest. It makes it look very...prototype-y. I'll be opting for the completely black one to avoid this.
