Famitsu was selling review scores before it was even an idea in the mind of an exec at GameSpot. Hell, Famitsu DEFINED the concept of sellnig scores. Even a lot of people in Japan don't trust them. What part of this is newsworthy?
So EA is being lazy and doing a half assed job with this "game". What part of this is shocking? They'll make this new "Ultima" game as shitty as their "Wing Commander" game from a few years back. They know its a shitty cash-in, so why bother putting effort into it? Hire a handfull of low-quality pgrammers who likely got their degrees from some diploma mill online, task them with slapping somethig together, slap one of the trademarked names you own on it. Profit.
Can I pretend to be O.J in a Viper? Didn't think so. Bronco it is.
Did they really have to make the logo look like one of those shitty rear window decals you buy at Pep Boys? Actually, you know what, it's kind of fitting. Nevermind.
As mcuh as I hate to defend MS, this guy doesn't come off as being completely forthright either. XBLA has tons of games that aren't exclusive to MS. Hell there are tons of titles that also appeared on PSN. I'd say PSN is a bigger competitor than the friggin Mac is. Also, as Owen said, it would be really shortsighted (or, stupid, actually) for someone to deny a game because it's on other paltforms. So instead of getting some money they now get none? Yeah, that's not Microsoft's style. All I hear from this guy is hyperbole. I'm sorry but he's not better than MS. Yes, MS has refused soem great titles (cough* Cave shooters) but I don't feel like this Dvorsky guy is being completely honest either. His comments sound more like the words of a butthurt dev who didn't get his way. They seem awfully one-sided. I'd like to hear the whole story before I pass judgment.
@eldictator: This was due to a common belief, at the time, that German Americans had assimilated better. It was believed that Japanese Americans had not assimilated and thus still had too much loyalty to the Emperor. It's crappy logic that is fatally flawed, but that's how people thought back then.
Is there someting in Asian culture that says that bashing a government or a specific thing consitutes bashing EVERYONE from said country or culture? You see this a lot in China too. Someone questions the Chinese government and they're immediately accused of bashing ALL Chinese people. It's just hard for us in the Wes to comprehend I guess. We grew up in a world where you could question things that you beleive are wrong without (in msot cases) being accused of stuff liek this. I guess over there any question of any aspect of their society constitutes "bashing" or "racism". That's a sad way of thinking, it stunts peoples' ability to question things they view as wrong.
Dark Forces for the PSX wasn't that great, it was way behind the PC version. however, this game NEEDS to sell well on PSN for one reason: Herc's Adventures. See, if this does well, LucasArts may then release one of the greatest games ever made, Herc's Adventures.
@GrieVelorn: That's all well and good but it doesn't fix the "Would you like to run the plugin" message that pops up on almost EVERY page you visit on the PS3 browser. I'm sorry but that shit got old fast.
Agreed, browsing on the PS3 blows big time. But that's Sony's fault. Like everything else, they slap it together and thne barely support it (cough* Home). A browser CAN be done right, look at the Wii.
Ok so we all knew this was going to happen, did we really need confirmation? I wish SE would realize that us Americans actually like games besides Final Fantasy and give us some of their other classics.
Somehow I doubt the Wii set will take to this game much. It's completely unforgiving in some places (there's a difference between challenging and cheap, Enclave is jsut cheap sometimes. Some death are completely out of nowhere. When I spend twenty minutes in a level only to die abruptly from some unforseen thing that I had zero chance of avoiding, that's not fun. The overall game and graphics was amazing for the time though, but they really need to impliment at least a checkpoint system.
Does the price really matter to people who paly this game anyway? I mean let's face it, MW2 was a pretty lazy, half assed sequel and a cash-in. And it still is one of the best selling titles of all time. People will buy anything with the Call of Duty name on it, no matter how uninspired it is. Activision knows that. So can you blame thme for asking this much for these maps? If people;e will pay for them, why not? I'd do the same thing if I were them.
You know, I hated on this Game Room thing, and it still irritates me that they de listed some XBLA titles presumably so they can re sell thme in the Game Room (ala the Midway stuff). But I think I may have to eat crow too as this whole Game Room thing was done very well in the respect that it reallybrings back a lot of memories. They got the feel almost dead on.
But does it feature the "Snoopy and the Red Baron" Christmas song? If so then this is a day one purchase for me. And if you think that's a bit childish that I'd buy this game especially for some stupid old song from the 70, well then ^%#$ you.
Why is this game called hydrophobia? I see no reference to the character having or having to deal with, rabies. That's what hydrophobia means. I believe the term they were looking for was "aquaphobia". I guess it's a little late for a name change though. Meh, I guess the average person won't catch the msitake.
I wonder if the game's developers realize that hydrophobia isn't the term meaning "fear of water". Hydrophobia is the scientific name for rabies. It's a common misconception that it means fear of water. The term meaning fear of water is "aquaphobia". I guess it's a little late for a name chage. Plus, the average person doesn't know its' a miss use of the word.
@fuchikoma: Agreed, I now feel even less remorse for using emulators and ROMs. Sorry but if they're going to gauge us, to hell with them.
So it took a public outcry for nintendo to "re-evalutate" the idea and possibly allow people to use their already-purchased games on the XL? Why was this not done before the XL even came out? This is really pathetic on nintendo's part, and it shows that while they've been a bit innovative lately, they're still the arrogant company they've always been. Basically what Nintendo is saying is "Fuck you, if you're a real Nintendo fan, you'll shut up and re buy the games.". This makes me VERY nervous about buying VC and WiiWare titles. What 's to stop them from pulling this same shit when their next console comes out? Nothing, apparently.
You cqn defend faboys all you want. At the end of the day, they're still just pathetic losers. Like the Richard guy mentioned at the beginning, I mean really, does this fool not even have a job? I'm sorry but I work every day and worry about paying my bills. Meanwhile, his only worry is about how some random anonymous person on some shitty GameFAQs forum insulted his favorite fucking video game machine. sorry, but Richard is a waste of space. And I agree with others who psoted, there's nothing "normal" about brand loyalty, it's jsut as stupid. Quit enabling these pathetic fanboys. These people need to become productive members of society. They can't live off their parents forever. Being loyal to a video game maching is cute when you're 10 years old. It's pathetic when you're 20. These people need to grow up.
