@Douko: I could not stand that song by the country singer that they played on Monday Night Football. Now this post made me think of it and I am in pain.
Come on. You guys put on the Vitality Sensor, but forgot about Super Meat Boy?
I hope that you add it to the list because it's easily one of my most anticipated games.
I can't wait to save Bandage Girl. :)
@FutureShock: I'm pretty sure that it's the latter on the Activision front seeing as how they published more Hero games than you can shake a stick at this year. Their other games such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Wolverine and Wolfenstein didn't fare so well either.
@db4dbms: Yes they are ranked, but none of them had averages high enough to get into the top 10. For example, LostWinds is somewhere in the high 80's. I believe it is at an 87 right now.
@lephunk: As I suggested above, Echoes and Blast Off! are two games by Halfbrick Studios that I've probably been enjoying a little too much. They're both great and only cost a paltry $2.99 a piece.
@Matthew Weflen:
Blast Off! and Echoes are two phenomenal games by Halfbrick Studios that only cost $2.99 a piece. I love the heck out of both of them.
There's also Tetris which is always good.
@kylenalepa:
At first, I was doing it because it was what I had to do, but after I did the first of the four, I paused and thought about what I was doing.
I hesitated. I actually hesitated, but then I continued anyway.
I was quite conflicted, but I chose to complete the deed and so I did. I was ashamed, but I did it.
It was a fantastic storyteling choice by the developers. I really applaud them.
@kylenalepa:
I really enjoyed the rhythmic gameplay actually. I was really satisfied at timing combos just right and there was no greater feeling than timing wall-runs, flips, and other acrobatic moves all in perfect synchronization.
On top of that, the relationship between the Prince and Elika that develops is really quite amazing for a video game.
What's really incredible is that, by the end of the game, the player really, really becomes the Prince.
In the ending of the game, the Prince is just so selfish, but, then again,, so are the players of the game. The players grow to love Elika, but ultimately choose their own satisfaction in the end.
I was so distraught as I realized what I was doing and yet I continued my actions.
I've never felt that before from a video game.
I hope I was vague enough. On another note, did you play the Epilogue? I wanted to, but I never got around to it.
Also, Totilo, I'd love if Kotaku ran a game club for Prince of Persia '08. I think that it would bring some interesting discussions.
2008: GTA IV was my most enjoyable experience while Rock Band 2 was my most played game. I truly believed GTA IV was a masterpiece and deserved all of its praise. I also love NYC so that may have contributed to my enjoyment.
I also greatly enjoyed Valkyria Chronicles and LittleBigPlanet and the new Prince of Persia reboot. That was beautiful. The ending was heart wrenching. I still remember your posts about the game from when you were working at MTV especially "Could 2008's last game be its best?" I'd be interested in another series of articles in the same vain covering The Saboteur, Pandemic's swan song.
2009: As for 2009, inFamous was probably the most purely fun game I've played since I was a child. Assassin's Creed II is also incredible so far. I have Demon's Soul in its packaging which it will stay in until I'm done with AC2. I'm also saving the best for last, Uncharted 2. I loved the first so Uncharted 2 becoming my GOTY is already a forgone conclusion. My most played game of the year was probably Fat Princess. I was completely immersed in it for the entire month of August until I picked up Batman:Arkham Asylum which was the Batman game that the comic nerd inside of me always hoped for. Mark Hamill is the best Joker ever. As my last call out to 2009, I'd like to point out a dark horse similar to N'Gai Croal's pick of Everyday Shooter as the 2007 GOTY. It's a downloadable game by Halfbrick Studios known as Echoes. I downloaded it for my PSP just this past week and it's one of the most beautiful and mind-bending games I've played especially in Clockwork mode. I encourage all of you to try it out or at the very least look up gameplay of it and I sincerely hope that Kotaku is going review it so that awareness of the title will be raised.
EDIT: I found the article that I referenced. It's at this URL. [multiplayerblog.mtv.com]
This video makes me really excited for the game. I can't wait for it now although I still can't stop thinking about the Disney Channel movie of the same name.
Soul Skaters For Life.
