@peteer02: hates geofencing: It really is wonderful having that large of a selection in Japan! Before I got my Kindle I was always going to the bookstore with their one aisle of English books and sighing... especially after I had already purchased everything they had to offer. Of course, it was probably better for my Japanese to be purchasing all of those Japanese books instead, hahaha.
I can't say I've really been tempted by games on the Kindle. Even the first generation one had a hidden version of Minesweeper on it (which I never played for the many years that I had my Kindle 1...) I have enough devices that play games as it is, I don't need my dedicated reading device to have any. Not that I have a problem with them offering the games, they just aren't for me...
Also, I've noticed that quite a few games get offered up as free for a limited time, which probably boosts sales up quite a bit.
@kariido: It has actually been available in quite a few areas of the world for awhile now. Only problem is, most areas don't have quite the same selection as the US does due to problems with digital rights. The latest version of Kindle can even handle books in a variety of scripts, not just Latin! Still haven't tried reading any Japanese books on it, I really ought to try soon...
@Karlott: I've read old articles with arcade enthusiasts who really were this dismissive about Nintendo and any home console. So it rang pretty true for me. Some things never change.
@Grey-Mouser: It doesn't say much of anything, unfortunately. No details on how exactly the map will be used, just a general "A world shrouded in darkness that you and your companions must save from Chaos!" etc. etc. usual JRPG tripe (I say that with the utmost love.)
@Timnicebutdim: I know a lot of the interest in the game comes from the variety in gameplay each world has... but for the most part I don't enjoy playing those sort of games (shmups, sidescrollers etc.) and it just ended up annoying me more often than not. I actually enjoyed the game for the first five hours or so, but in the end it just weighed me down.
@SatansBestBuddy: Hahaha, to be fair, it isn't out anywhere but Japan yet. But it does come in two flavors, mobile and DS, so I'm surprised you haven't heard of it by now. Though of the three games that were announced some odd years ago, this is definitely the lesser and sadly forgettable. A lot of people seem to be enjoying it, because it has a massive variety of gameplay, but it was dull and lackluster to me.
@David Perlman: But I believe that was only one game (Myst V) where we played him, correct? In the others it was never revealed, and set too far apart chronologically for it to have been him the whole time. There isn't really any evidence of them being the same person (despite what others want to believe.)
At least it looks like it might be based more heavily on the books (which were pretty good) rather than the original game.
A first person movie would be no. But having to put a face to the Stranger's identity would also be no. And that's aside from the fact that a movie based heavily around the game would pretty boring. The game is about slow discovery and contemplation, not exactly something movies are good at.
@Bubbleman!: Actually I heard all the stuff from Atlus was scrapped (so far though, only a rumor...) That doesn't mean, obviously, that nothing will be coming out from them (that would be ridiculous) but it may be a bit further in the future...
@reducks: Nah, the fourth has already been out for a year on the DS. The one for the 3DS is the fifth one (I love the series, but there are way too many games in it at this point...)
@EloraHRanma: I've played all four games, and while occasionally they have a new kind of puzzle I would say 75-80% of the puzzles are rehash/old puzzle new skin. It took me awhile to get through the fourth one because I kept having the feeling that I've done this all before. I love puzzles, but the only thing that keeps me going in the series are the characters, art and music.
