If you have something to announce, announce it. If you don't, don't bother me with your stupid marketing crap. Don't announce fucking announcements.

<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on Iwata So Very Very Sorry For Nintendo's E3 Presser]]> Article omits the relevant part of what Iwata said:

"However, the fact of the matter is the so-called 'big titles' need a long, long development period. ... We really didn't think this year's E3 media briefing was the time to do so."

So the games are coming, they're just not ready to be hyped yet.

]]>
<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on Nintendo President Doesn't Think Friend Codes Are Perfect (Who Agrees?)]]> This conspiracy theory that Nintendo hates online or doesn't want to support online and introduced friend code for that reason is stupid. Online + Friend Codes is more complicated to implement than Online alone! Most Nintendo games have two online modes (anonymous and friend code) instead of one; that's more work than only supporting one system!

I tolerate friend codes, and the reason is that I sometimes play on Xbox Live. After a few minutes of listening to homophobic live gamers, it becomes painfully obvious that this is not something Nintendo will ever support, and for good reason.

<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on Justify Your Mega Man 9]]> @Cloral wrote: "In short, I think Contra 4 is actually a good bit harder than the older Contras"

I doubt that. It's just that we've played through all the levels in the old Contras dozens or even hundreds of times. A decade later, that still counts for something.

<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on Nintendo Introduces Wii Motion Plus]]> How the hell do these work?

]]>
<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on A Week In Comments]]> @Billkwando: I picked your quote because it expressed a sentiment many commenters seemed to share. No need to justify your comment, I did not mean to pick on you. Sorry.

Also, the "And that should conclude this discussion" sentence was tongue-in-cheek. Obviously, discussions on kotaku can't really be concluded.

]]>
<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on A Week In Comments]]> @Billkwando explained: Offensive is offensive, but if one is truly feminist, he must realize that thinking of women as "delicate flowers that must be protected" is sexist as well.

But that's hardly the point, is it? It's not about thinking that women are delicate flowers; it's about not being a disgusting asshole. I would be just as annoyed if the comments were full of "I want to bang CliffyB" crap.

Furthermore, there's no denying that women have it harder online. This reminds me of Kathy Sierra. She had an awesome, incredibly interesting blog, but had to stop writing it because she was threatened and insulted. Google her or read her Wikipedia page if you're interested. Here's more.

Choice quote from Kathy Sierra:

"Do not put these people on a pedestal. Do not let them get away with calling this 'social commentary,' 'protected speech,' or simply 'criticism'."

And that should conclude this discussion.

]]>
<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on A Week In Comments]]> @thejakeman has died of dysentry claimed: she doesn't have to read it.

Well, you're an asshole. But it's okay for me to say that, because you don't have to read it.

Perhaps she chose to work in videogames because she likes them, and likes visiting sites like this one. Perhaps it's part of her job to follow public opinion of her work. So now it's her fault if people insult her, because she didn't have to read it? She's accountable for the people who insult her because she was reading kotaku?

besides that, quit speaking for someone you don't know

WTF Seriously? That's your argument? I'm not allowed to speak up for somebody I don't know? I'm not even sure how to reply to that, that makes no sense at all. And why in the world are you formulating this as a command, I thought you were in favour of free speech? It's okay for you to tell me not to speak up for people I don't know, but it's not okay for me to tell people not to insult people. In what dimension does that make any sense at all?

<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on A Week In Comments]]> @red wrote: as a woman i promise you i dont give a shit

This is not about you.

It's about two things:

First, it's about people like Jade, who have to put up with constant harassment and humiliation on the Internet. Do you have to put up with shit like this? Perhaps being treated like this comes with being a pretty female working in the games industry, but that doesn't make it right, and it's hurting gaming by alienating females who would otherwise be interested in working in this industry.

Second, it's about people like me who would like to have a place for civilized discussions about games. I'm interested in Jade's new game. I'm interested in talking about it. I'm not, however, interested in some 12-year-old's fantasy involving Jade.

]]>
<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on The Ultimate Guide to iPhone Games]]> Enigmo is awesome. I love Cro-Mag racing (although I think they should get rid of the collecting spearheads feature and just concentrate on racing). Multiplayer with Cro-Mag is especially awesome. Raging Thunder is also pretty cool.

The bike racing game looks better than I expected, might pick that one up, too. I'll definitely check out Rolando (gameplay doesn't look that much like Loco Roco, it seems it doesn't even support tilting(?)) and Crash.

Also, Super Monkey Ball is a must on any console :-)

<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on Ron Gilbert on Episodic Gaming and the Film Industry]]> I'm kind of surprised at the bad impression a lot of Americans have of unions. Why in the world should workers not get together and negotiate with companies as one?

In 99% of all jobs, each individual human is easy to replace. So companies have the upper hand when negotiating things like work hours, wages, holidays and (in the US) health care. It makes sense for workers to stand up for each other; in fact, you've got to be an idiot not to do it.

@rexdart007: I have no problem at all paying 10 bucks more per game if that money actually goes to currently underpaid, overworked developers. I don't particularly want my favourite hobby to come at the cost of other people's misery.

<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on Computer Getting Hot, Me Melting]]> If your laptop gets too hot, you can try undervolting it. Undervolting means that you run the laptop with less power than usual. Chips are typically certified for a voltage range. So your MacBook's chip gets more power than it needs to operate and thus runs hotter (and also uses more battery).

Here's an app which can help you undervolt your MacBook:

It may take a bit of time to find the lowest voltage your chip runs error-free, though. Good luck.

<![CDATA[L_K_M commented on A Week In Comments (Can't Wait For Next Monday!)]]> @kidnicky claimed: "Not to mention, anyone should know you can't prove something doesn't exist"

Now that is an absurd claim. True, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, and some things can indeed not be disproved, but your claim is still obviously false, and the very topic we are talking about shows this. It's easily possible to prove that there is no rape scene in GTA IV by - for example - going through the game's code.
