No cake thanks, I'm not hungry. I just want to be able to get my console repaired without getting banned.

And no, it wasn't a good analogy. What it equates to is "Just because you buy a console, doesn't mean you have the right to cave someone's skull in with it."

Fucking retarded.

Yeah, if someone is pirating, ban them. That's 100% fine by me. But you're glossing over the main point. He WASN'T using the service maliciously and he WASN'T indulging in piracy. He committed the heinous crime of getting his faulty console repaired, that is all.
You must have missd the part where I said he had it repaired before I even knew him. And who even said I modded consoles to play free games anyway? I certainly didn't. Why do you assume that because I'm able to perform repairs, I'm invariably into piracy? Do you think those who learn to repair consoles are unscrupulous people? It certainly sounds like it.

FYI I learned to repair 360s after I was hit by the RRoD a few years back. The fix seemed simple enough, so I gave it a go and voila! After that I ended up repairing RRoD for a handful of friends, then friends of friends, then I progressed to replacing DVD lasers and eventually whole DVD drives (this is when I had to learn about reading and writing firmware. It is an unavoidable part of the drive replacement process).

Not everyone is a pirate my friend. I could quite easily mod other people's consoles to play backups, but I don't. You know why? Morals. Believe it or not, some people have them.

He doesn't know anything about firmware, I do. He had the drive replaced at a local highstreet gaming shop a few weeks before we met and I checked the firmware after he was banned.
Well we all agree the guy got stiffed. Where we differ is that some people are sying "that's how it is, just bend over and take it", whereas the rest of us think something needs to change on Microsoft's part.

If something isn't fair, it needs to be addressed. It's one of the tenets of creating a healthy society.

Exactly. The funny thing is, most people here are agreeing that the guy did nothing wrong, but then they go on to defend M$ for banning him! Amazing!
"Unless it's something like changing the HDD in a PS3 for example, then you shouldn't let Joe-smoe fix your console. Directly to the manufacturer or an authorized repair center. That's the way it always is."

If your PS3 Blu Ray dies out of warranty and a reputable repair shop (or "Joe-smoe" as you call them) replaces it for $50 less than what Sony are asking for, do Sony have the right to ban your console from PSN? Or would that be flat out wrong of them?

That's a very poor analogy. If you buy a gun and the trigger breaks, you have a right to have it repaired. Right?
Yeah they mixed things up quite a bit with Peace Walker. I played through MGS 2 and 3 over a long weekend (post-op) and when I finally reached PW I found I had to forget everything I'd become accustomed to. I wasn't digging it at first. It turned out to be a good game though.
That's exactly it! The control system is rigid and feels unnatural. You have to battle to get your head around the seemingly ass backwardness of it, but once it clicks it's a joy!

Come to think of it, I should probably go back and try Resident Evil 4 HD again too. I loved it when I borrowed a friend's wii for the weekend a while back, but the recent XBLA release just pissed me off because of the controls. I got to the first village and threw the pad down in dispair. Sooooo clunky. I hate clunky.

The thing I hate about XBL Policy and Enforcement is the system of "no recourse" they work under. I know someone who was banned because he apparently had a modded dvd drive to play backups. The fact is, he didn't. He had a faulty drive replaced and the firmware which was used was legit, not the hacked kind that allows the playing of backups (I know because I checked it myself).

It's not StepTo's fault MS take this stance (at least I don't think it is) but it sucks all the same. I can't see why a customer should be penalized for repairing his ailing console.

edit: before anyone says "he should've sent it to Microsoft", he shouldn't have to do that. If your car needs a repair, you don't have to suck it up and send it away to Ford for 3 weeks and pay extortionate prices. You take it to whichever local garage offers you the best deal (and Ford don't come in the night and steal the wheels off your car when they find out, either)

What else am I supposed to handcuff my girlfriend to?
I missed out on MGS3 when it first came out so I was stoked when I heard it was coming to 360 (it's the best game on PS2, some say). Then I played it... and I was sorely disappointed by the clunky, outdated controls. Terrible, terrible interface. I gave up on it very quickly :(

I did decide to give MGS2 a go though, for nostalgia's sake, since I loved it back in the day (played the hell out of the Tanker demo that came with Z.O.E.). It didn't take long for those old feelings to return, so I played through the tanker level, got to Big Shell, decided to play on a little longer to get a couple of achievements, and the next thing I know I've completed it! Nice one!

So I'm sitting there, frothing at the mouth for more Solid Snake action and I decide to give Snake Eater another go. And you know what? MGS3 is facking awesome! That sniper boss is one of the most memorable and enjoyable gaming experiences I've had in a long, long time. Bravo Kojima, bravo!

I need to get through Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood so I can start on Revelations. I've already played up to Venice this week and it feels like I've done a fairly big chunk of the game, but the problem is I planned on blasting through the campaign as fast as possible, yet I've wound up going for 100% completion. It looks like I'll be stuck in the Animus for quite a while.

That's hardly a bad thing though is it?

You're probably right about that. The classic SEGA logo may not have been so beloved if it wasn't firmly attached to childhood memories of the 8 and 16-bit eras.

Looking at these designs again, I think the SEGA United one stands out from the rest. It's the graduating colour scheme that makes it stand out.

I still think he made a mistake with the SEGA font mind. It's hard to imagine what he could have done to adapt it without me breaking out Photoshop and having a bit play around myself, but there's definitely something that could have been done there, I can feel it.

I might have a go this weekend, see if I can't spruce things up a bit (not too much sprucing though, I'm with you on preferring the minimalist approach).

...but it is a faithful Simpsons game. The best Simpsons game by far in fact. So in that respect isn't overrated.

Besides, it's fun. And It's not too far off the standard of TMNT, to be honest.

I tought the logos he added are pretty bland to be honest. There's nothing iconic about them. Nothing to make them even stand out and be memorable, which is important when creating a recognisable brand.

TBPH I'd have to say he made his first mistake when he dulled down the SEGA font. He lessened the impact of the designs tenfold with that choice. Add that to the aforementioned blandness and you have what I consider to be a big box of meh

I can appreciate that, but the thing is they've been touting Black Mesa as "coming soon" since October 2009 (and that's just me speaking from my own personal experience. I know I jumped on board a hell of a lot later than most).

I don't mean to sound like I'm ragging on the guys, I am fully behind them and I actually hope Valve snap this up on completion so they all see a nice little payday for their efforts, but nobody can deny that the constant news blackout and missed deadlines is bordering on comedy.

I wish Valve would take it off their hands, finish it off and put out in a new Orange box style release. With Episode 3 of course ;)

Well hopefully Starbreeze will have adapted the dubstep angle for the in-game soundtrack. I can't agree with you about these trailers, but I'd be comfortable with a more atmospheric soundtrack with dubstep elements.

I haven't had a chance to play the demo yet, so I suppose I'll find out soon enough.
