Well, isn't this just dandy?

As you guys may or may not know, Puerto Rico is a US territory, and Puerto Ricans are born with US citizenship.

You know who definitely doesn't know that, though? EA.

If you've finally decided to accept the nightmare reality that Battlefield 3 will not be offered via Steam, you may have found your listless body--broken in spirit a emotionally drained--dragging itself towards the Origin website to perform this darkest of deeds.

If you live in Puerto Rico though, you'll get redirected to the Spanish (as in, Spain) version of the website. Try to change the location to United States? NOPE.avi, it'll force you back to the Spain version.

The best part? If you want to buy the game, you have to pay it in Euros because, well, you're looking at the Spain website, you stupid, ugly motherfucker. But as part of the United States, isn't the Puerto Rican currency the US Dollar? Why yes, yes it is!

How's the exchange rate these days? I might exchange a few bucks for a few Eurobucks and buy EA a fucking clue.

In archery, to stabilize your aiming, and to reduce vibrations caused when shooting, bows can be provisioned with long carbon stabilizers. The difference is quite noticeable.

Truly an elegant solution to your shaky gaming hands if there ever was one- just stick one of those puppies to the back of your 3DS and you're good to go!
@square enigma: Oh yes, watching the lead-up videos of the single characters up until the big number was a treat in itself. As far as dancing, there was also the TF2 Beat It video, but that one only had like 64K views- it was never gonna get into the list.
I'm a little saddened that there was no TF2 machimina on there- people get so creative with the Team Fortress characters- like the Smash 64 opening/TF2 mashup, TF2 Band of Brothers, and this here awesome number (that has nearly 2 million views)- Law Abiding Engineer.

In fact, this one has more views than the Poptropica one- it just didn't make the cut because the poster classified it under "Films & Animation"
Oh no! This'll be the first time in the history of gaming that people will need to buy a new platform to own their favorite game!

How dare they release this game on THAT platform, when it is such an obvious fit for THIS platform instead! Oh well, the series that- for the last 10 years- I've been doing blood rites in reverence for is now dead to me.

I guess I'll just go play SSF4 or Scott Pilgrim on my Wii instead.

Oh... wait....
@Ethereus: Er, Valve and many, many other devs would like to have a word with you about that. Hell, didn't Excitebike (Famicom, 1984) have a map editor that let you change the terrain?
Nice and concise. I'd forgotten how long it's been since I've played a few of these games- though I can't help but notice some Valve omissions in the timeline- Counter-Strike is still played like the world needs it to stay in orbit, and between 2001 and 2009 in the timeline, The Orange Box's 3 games all had a pretty big impact each on the shooter and gaming world.

I know some fans of other influential and not-mentioned games are sure to pipe in as well, so have at it!
Speaking of control panels in my lower screens, how could we have gone so long in this discussion without mentioning Chosoju Mecha MG? Probably the greatest mecha game for the DS never released in the West... For shame, Nintendo- where's my Marionation Gear?

Makes me wonder what other games like this we've missed...
@(Zombie) Jölan: Yup, class-based combat is nothing new, though TF2 is a well-known example, and most likely sets the bar in most people's mind. It's like how you can't make a dungeon-raiding action/puzzle game without talking about Zelda, or how you can't help but compare simple jumping platformers with Mario. Anyways, Luke Smith's reasoning for making Halo: Reach class-based is the same reason Valve designed the TF2 characters like they did- their developer's blog stresses how important it was for them that the players get all the information they need about their opponent via instant visual cues. That's why the Heavy's bigness is perfection, that's why the Scout is a lanky lil' bastard, and that's why the Pyro is... the Pyro. Knowing that the dude you're flanking is a Sniper will usually embolden you to approach them and dispach them with a more hands-on approach, because you know they rarely move from their tunnel vision. Ghillie suits in Bad Company are like a big sign that says "PLZ BACKSTAB ME~DESU". But yeah, I, for one, am a fan of class-based combat- Luke Smith is improving Halo by doing this, even if he doesn't want to call it class-based like it so obviously is. PS: *Cough Cough*
@Chestnut Bowl: Jun Senoue was already onboard in the Sega Sound Team by Sonic 3, so...
@Chronixal: I'm echoing the recommendation for the Archie comic. Ken Penders and Justin Gabrie started trying to force too much drama and angst and love dodecaedrons into the comic, leading to a low point during the 125-150 issues period. Then Ian Flynn took over, and it has VASTLY improved. He basically scuttled all the faux drama and ineffectual villains Penders introduced, and tied the comic closer to the games without giving up its SatAM roots. Overall, Flynn is a much better storyteller.
As a Dominican living in Puerto Rico, I'm surprised only one other person has mentioned Best Buy, who don't commit highway robbery as much as they commit highway crimes against humanity. Puerto Rico is part of the US market, and uses the US$, so prices in most stores is the same or close to the same as in the States. However, when the retailers here see a chance to price-gouge, they will do so with extreme prejudice (and impunity). In Best Buy's case, expect to pay in the blood of your firstborn. Best Buy made a huge marketing deal out of the fact that they were the Holy Store Savior of Prices when they first opened in the island- needless to say, that was not the case at all. I remember last year's Black Friday, I went and found they had a WesternDigital 1TB hard drive for $256, labeled as a 'Black Friday Special'. Not 30 minutes earlier, I had seen the same drive in CompUSA for around $112. Best Buy also had that day The Orange Box at an inexplicable $60. Of course, the buying public acts as an enabler to this non-lubricated anal raping- Best Buy has opened more stores in the island, so they must be doing very well here, in spite of the prices positioned in low earth orbit. CompUSA (TigerDirect/Systemax bought it and kept it open when the US stores closed due to bankruptcy) is the only place where you can usually find decent prices here, though they're not above price hikes either. I've got a great picture of the services they provide- they'll charge you around 70 bucks if you bring a computer, to move media from the PC to a USB drive.... P.S. The Dominican Republic usually has European/Australian prices for videogames... And that's the good prices- expect double that as the norm. It's insane.
@MARl0: Bah! You have earned my eternal hate for removing any shred of relevance I could have had on this thread- Have at you, Sir!
I remain cautiously optimistic- modern 2D Sonic games have always fared much better than 3D ones. Even the most haterest of haters should find something to enjoy in Sonic Rush, for example. Also, to all those wondering and complaining that they see anything other other than Sonic on there, I've shoop'd this image for you.
@PhageLab:

Around the time the LD4 demo came out, someone stuffed Dustbowl into LD4, and darkened it up a bit- The Director actually handled it pretty well and it was a nice chunk of awesome. Dunno whatever became of that, though.

As long as we're having 8 and 16-bit mapgasms, throw in the Sonic 2 zones, or, if you really want to nerd out, the Tornado heading in for a trench run on the Death Egg.
The Orange Box and Team Fortress standalone are both on the chart... So technically, if you count the copy in Orange Box, Team Fortress would be a couple of numbers higher on that list. Technically.

Also, antiantiantiantiantiantiantiantiantiantiantiantisniper, is it weird that I counted the antis in your nickname to find out if you were a sniper lobbyist or an antisniper lobbyist?

@Strider-Kojiro: I think the downloads would be too big- they'd have to be straight to SD cards... Dreamcast on the Wii *would* rock hard enough to melt even the most haterest of hater's face off, though.

How about a line of Dreamcast on Wii, instead, like the Gamecube's Play on Wii line? Bring Power Stone and PSO, while you're at it.

Well, thanks for making me lose my fucking mind so early in the morning.

You guys think you have it rough in the States? Try finding a VO arcade machine here in Puerto Rico! That, my friends, is the holiest of holy grails. I've only ever seen one Virtual On machine, and two Oratorio Tangram ones, All three are now gone from this world, and while they lived, they were in an almost-permanent state of disrepair. They tended to get fixed and be broken by the end of the week, probably by joystick-mashing scrubs.

Arcades here are just as rare as in the States, and probably twice as expensive. The Time-Outs here charges a buck PER RACE on Initial D v3... There's another arcade around here that still has Initial D v2, and they charge 78 cents per race (it's a token credit card thing here, you charge it at the counter), obviously so that you end up with uneven amounts left and feel the need to spend more. DDR is another way to easily go into economic crisis.

Anyways, as terrible as it would probably play without Twinsticks, I'd still buy it, because I just couldn't say no to Raiden.

@Sononeo:

I'm not completely certain of how it came to be, but despite being a Spanish-speaking country, the word 'heavy' -meaning 'cool'- is commonly used in the Dominican Republic.
