Sony also said handheld gaming was for children.

I thought the quote was that any young adult wouldn't be caught dead with a DS? I hardly think a Sony executive would dump on handheld gaming. Well, at least not until sometime before 2004.

I agree with you that a port can be nothing more than a port if they so choose. But due to the price point, folks familiar with the game may not be so eager to jump back in.

Then again, perhaps they felt that it had to be priced at the point since they see the franchise as a tiny niche in this marketplace. So, they're trying to make as much money as they can on it since so many hands take a piece of the pie (retail and all its components, mainly)

At the very least, you get more bang for your buck with a lot of the HD collections. TotA 3D is $40 and only features one game with minimal changes. Collections like Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper and DMC feature three games for a similar price, and they come with extras that folks may (or may not) care about (trophies/achievements, 3D, behind-the-scenes stuff, concept art, etc.).
To all of those questioning the legitimacy of this issue, I say this:

If Namco Bandai is going to charge full price for a barely-modified port, shouldn't consumers expect more from a product apart from just the original product on a different platform?

I wouldn't go as far as to say that this particular thing is what would make or break a $40 purchase. But, I'm a little amazed how the justification of it being a direct port of the PS2 original somehow makes it alright.

Actually, ToI: R is already out in Japan. It sold north of 50,000 units.
The "Fight The Red Menace" one is sooooo goooood. I need that made into a t-shirt ASAP.
I played "Bahram Battleship" on loop for days and loved every minute of it.
Early last year, I first played MGO as a way to switch things up from the massive amount of time I had sunk into Black Ops. It was a mostly enjoyable diversion, though it took precisely 12,000 years for all of the patches to download.

RIP MGO.

Oh, and you could play music from ZOE in the background during matches? Yes.

Miyamoto is all about gardens and wandering through caves.
Sexy Time with Rhythm Heaven Fever.

Fun fact: After choosing the musical style (bossa nova) and visuals, one of the developers of the game thought that this particular mini-game was too cutesy. Thus, he added the male and female moaning to give it an edge. A sexier edge.

P.S. - This mini-game is also a visual and audio metaphor for sex.

To me, all this is doing is publicizing the schedule the folks at Kotaku already use for many of these "blocks" of content. Ashcraft always writes in the early morning hours, Luke posts Total Recall late in the evening/early morning, comics are discussed on Thursday, etc.

If anything, the real change is the addition of "blocks" for content that is already posted on the site. Whether it's music, PC gaming or sports content, all that kind of stuff has been seen here before. They're just being given a public schedule.

I believe it's the second. Themed articles will go up within that timeslot, essentially.
I'm from Illinois, but I imagine that other states will use that decision as a precedent in order to collect on purchases via Amazon. Noooooooooooooooooooo. :(
Considering that I pay tax for purchases made over PSN, it's a much smarter idea for me to buy physical copies from tax-free locations like Amazon or Newegg. It also makes sharing, trading and selling much less of a hassle.
You don't pay tax when buying things over PSN?
Snake is totally PO'd that Batman would wreck his box like that.
Actually, it's not. Square-Enix previously released DLC for two WiiWare games:

- Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
- Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord

And Taito, a subsidiary of Square-Enix, also released DLC for Space Invaders Get Even*.

( * WHY has this game not been released elsewhere?! :[ )

I want to be Frank just so I, too, can wear a funny hat every day.
Two of my favorite moments are ...

1. When Jack shows up to a quinceañera for someone in Elisa's family. As soon as he's invited in to the party, he's handed a plate of food and a baby. SO TRUE TO LIFE.

2. When Jack is at a Republican lunch with his Democratic girlfiend. After revealing to everyone who he's with, one guy stands up and reveals he's gay. Another guy shares that he's black.
