<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Great Opening Sentences From Science Fiction]]> @Bob_of_Mars: The Gunslinger book one of Stephen King's Dark Tower series. First book was good. Each book afterwards gets worse and worse. I blame the fact it was around a decade before he started the second book, had lost the original outline, and had his head so far up his own ass by that point he managed to be able to see out of his own mouth. He even wrote himself into the series, and tried to justify it as "Not meta-fiction, it's necessary to the plot."

In the process he managed to desecrate nearly every one of his good books. Including The Gunslinger when he released a version that added material that tied into the next books.

In other words, I didn't much care for the series. I don't like Stephen King anymore as a result.

Man, 1961 was ****ing weird.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Visionary Comic Creators Share Secret Origins]]> That Aquaman bit had me laughing. I don't know why exactly.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on GameTap Taps Gamecock]]> That press release is downright smug. Why, they are metaphorically waving their gamecock right in our faces!

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Now You Have an Even Better Excuse to Snarf Ritalin]]> I have a prescription for Ritalin. Minor ADHD. I never use it. I can't stand the way it messes with my thought processes. Concentration is easier, but my memory gets weird on me.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on The Dead Space Trailer So Scary It's Banned]]> I'm getting goddamn sick of the "Mother Goose" horror trope.

Oh no! Baa-Baa Black Sheep being sung without musical accompaniment! I'm terrified!

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Serial Killer Joss Whedon Faces His Public]]> @SimonMay: He may not have needed the cash, but with a budget in the low six-digits, and the iTunes downloads already hitting the top of the charts, I think he is going to get the cash anyways.

I agree, it was fun. Absolute favorite bit: Dr. Horrible's tic, the too-hard blink. It really fleshes out the character more than any of the songs.

]]>
<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Serial Killer Joss Whedon Faces His Public]]> @Efflux: Presumably the Whedon family, and the group publishing the DVD.

There might be an announcement at Comic-con.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Serial Killer Joss Whedon Faces His Public]]> We need to get a list of every character Whedon has killed off, then look for the common thread.

We have to find the next victim before it is too late!

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on THQ Signs Up With GameTap]]> @NitrousO: Mine too, that is why I supplement it with Wikipedia for small stuff, and Google for big stuff, cross-reference multiple sites, books, and what remains of my memory for the really big stuff.

... Just got a big wave of self-pity right there. Power goes out and I'll start drooling.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Microsoft's "Vista Doesn't Suck" Ad Campaign Thinks Everyone Remembers The 15th Century]]> People knew the world wasn't flat before Christopher Columbus came around. By 1492, it was accepted fact that the earth was a sphere.

American history books are not a reliable source of information. Most aren't written by historians, but by authors with a stack of other history books to use as reference. Unfortunately, those other history books were also written in the same manner. This has been the case for so long that as a result they are still teaching myths that have been debunked decades ago.

[www.amazon.com] is a nice start.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Make Your Own Light Drawings]]> @chareverie: Some of those long-exposure shots look like they were a lot of fun to make. Especially that one with orange loops by Toby Keller.

I bet you he just took an orange light in each hand, ran across the rocks and just windmilled it.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Locksmiths Hate Geeks]]> @aestheticity: A legitimate use? Any time you would need a locksmith.

Why pay someone else to do something you can do yourself? Not that I know how to pick locks, but really, it doesn't take much imagination.

]]>
<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Win A Copy of Civilization Revolution]]> "Canada, Ireland, and Vietnam" are not anagrams of Civilization Revolution, and they aren't anagrams of the individual letters either. They are words composed of the same letters as Civilization Revolution.

CIVLZATONREU are the letters you can use. You have to use each at least once, but more than once is allowed as well.

That is not an anagram.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Ending the World On a Tight Budget]]> I'm reminded of Betrayal at the House on the Hill, another WOTC/Hasbro game that is out of print.

Your characters were represented by hexagons with stats along the edges. The objective was to uncover the objective. Each game it could be different. Sometimes one player would become the betrayer, sometimes not. The real enemy in this game is the house. There is an online demo.

<![CDATA[Ghede commented on Alone In The Dark's Unbreakable Car]]> @Pete193: It's actually not that bad. Once you get used to the combat, it's entertaining. Some of the puzzles are freaking genius. There is this one after your first boss-fight in the museum... I'm not going to spoil it but when we finally figured it out our jaws dropped. It's a type of thing you would see in a cut-scene, but never actually play it yourself.

The game could have used a lot of polish, as the clip demonstrates, but it's not a bad game. Not the greatest, but not bad. I'd go as far as to say it is damn good. Rent it first. Play it at least twice. First time I played it I got pissed because I encountered a bug.
