I have to say, I LOVE QC, but for the LIFE of me I can't explain to people WHY! I dunno, the humor just clicks with me for some reason. And there have been more than a few of them that've had me laughing my ass off over some stupid little thing.

I think personally though my all time favorite comic is Something Positive... OMG that comic has had me in tears SO many times.

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @TheIrishNinja: Here's what happened:

Some of Buckley's fans started a guild (whose name escapes me at the moment) on the same server as the fans of PA and PvP. Buckley, being the attention whore he apparently is, joins said guild and gets promoted to an officer position (but not guild manager, this becomes important later). He stops playing for a few MONTHS and then goes on a bender, restarts his WoW account and apparently claims the guild is 'his' since it's 'based on his works' and he kicks several HUNDRED people from the guild overnight.

So a huge mob of people log in the next morning to: no guild... and the only people who are left are other officers who couldn't stop him because they were the same rank.

All this because he didn't want them 'representing him' or somesuch, because he had turned his back on WoW and was now an avid EVE Online player...

This wasn't a guild he started mind you, he was invited because the people who DID start it were fans of his work... WAY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR YOUR FANS... >_<

It was Kurtz who coined the phrase 'Hurricane Buckley' btw :D He offered spots in all the PvP fan guilds to the refugees of Buckley's infantile behavior.

Class act that Buckley... I tell ya... :P

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> I dunno, Ctrl+Alt+Del was always a ginormous MEH to me as far as gaming comics went. Yahtzee points out (in delightfully brutal detail) how the comic is structured, and I never found Buckley's author-insertion-fantasy-persona anything other than "pants-on-head retarded", and I found myself more and more wanting to beat the shit out of him. This is not exactly what I call 'humor'...

Couple that with the "Hurricane Buckley" incident with his WoW guild a year or so ago, and I personally thought he was a class A wanker; but then I heard about the baby, and the miscarriage it just pointed out firmly that while he wasn't very funny to begin with, now he's just... pathetic.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on 10 Books That Were Better Off on Paper]]> I think overall V was the best adaptation of the (EXTREMELY wordy) graphic novel you were going to get. And exactly WHERE in the Graphic novel was the 'nuanced' British fascism??? At no point in the graphic novel was the British govt portrayed as anything other than an Orwellian fascist state... it's as IN YOUR FACE fascism as you could possibly get... o_O I'm not sure what version of the graphic novel YOU were reading... seriously... And I was TOTALLY shocked they didn't cut the Valerie Page story from the film version... for that alone it deserves a bit more credit than you are willing to give it IMHO.

However, Starship Troopers to me was pretty much unwatchable, because I had JUST finished reading the book a month prior and as soon as I saw it was 'giant bugs vs the space marines' that COMPLETELY missed the overall POINT of the book, I couldn't watch it without wanting to hurl. Heinlein was almost delightfully cynical about society (and the book has some frighteningly accurate predictions about how our 'PC society' is going to fall apart) and some of the more 'out there' ideas are pretty damn appealing (bring back public flogging, damnit!). It's a shame they didn't let someone who understood the work do the movie *sigh*.

Also, I get kinda aggravated when a book to movie adaptation is done almost PERFECTLY, and then people complain (bless their hearts) that 'it was too literal a translation) - case in point being the first Harry Potter movie... I nearly lost my mind every time a critic would say the movie was 'too much like the book'... o_O... WTF? Makes no bloody sense!!!

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Science Fiction That Could Turn You Queer, If Only for a Nanosecond]]> You want gender-bending fic of the highest (and possibly strangest) caliber? Go out and find the Wraeththu books by Storm Constantine. Hermaphroditic vampire-esque 'men' take over the world, and have lots and lots (and LOTS) of sex. It's seriously hard to categorize, and the books have just be re-edited with new editions published that improve on an already mad universe :) Definitely worth a look at least.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Doctor Who's Year (And A Half) Of Hell]]> @Fall-Apart:
See I was wondering that too, but you also have to consider the possibility that the plan may not have succeeded either way... one of the tablets may have been faulty, causing the same explosion. The Doctor is NOT infallible, and it IS a fixed point in time, so therefore the universe may try to 'self correct' and make the mountain go 'splody anyhow.

Just a theory mind you.

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Complete Set List for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Revealed]]> @BassForever:
I would argue that you are indeed correct: Rockband is not 'innovative' per se; however it DOES have a broader range of music, more fun to play with other people, and in general gives a better representation of that 'nebbish rock star fantasy' (thanks Yahtzee) than GH's 'sells out so fast you just see a whirlwind of dollar signs as they go by' attitude.

And RB has, by a WIDE margin, more DLC, a broader range of musical styles, and is more about having FUN rather than mastering button mashing (not to mention the DLC is cheaper than GH).

And Aerosmith hasn't been relevant since the mid-90s... I'm just sayin...

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Zero Punctuation On Oblivion]]> @Zio: See I am glad I am not the only one!!!

@belo: That actually doesn't look totally eye-bleedingly wretched! Congrats! :D

Still, the game wasn't unplayable, but I think at that time my gaming was split almost evenly between FPSs and MMOs. I DO have friends who absolutely ADORE the game, but I couldn't get over how homely EVERY thing was in the game and the random annoying wolves and skeletons etc.

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Zero Punctuation On Oblivion]]> I laughed my ass off at this one, primarily because I played probably, oh, about 5 or 6 hours of it, got HORRIBLY bored and then uninstalled the game and gave it to a friend (who also got bored with it and pawned it off on someone else).

Aside from all of Yahtzee's (extremely valid and spot on) criticisms, the character generator alone nearly kept me from playing too far into it... EVERYONE in this game was some degree of fucking HIDEOUS. I spent at least an HOUR trying to make a character that wouldn't cause me to throw up a little in my mouth if I happened to make the horrible mistake of actually, you know, LOOKING at them. Couple that with the voice 'acting', and the bland cookie-cutter landscape and it was one big snoozefest.

At least with WoW you have a social element and SCENERY :D

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Security Cam Footage of Cubicle Rage to the Extreme is Every Cube Dweller's Fantasy]]> To all the people going 'why is everyone just standing around?': Why do people slow down to watch a car accident (like a burning car for example)? Then you have to consider this almost certainly didn't happen in the US, and if it DID happen in Russia, they may not have the same mentality when it comes to leaving the office.

As to the whole monitor/cable issue: here in the US where I've worked with computers people RAAARELY ever screw their cables into the back of the computer, so any sharp tug will have them fly free, and the power cable on most CRTs will pop out the back of the monitor just as easily.

I have also worked in offices with partitions between cubicles that are held together by gravity/slots in the partition. I could have yanked one apart pretty easily (and someone once tumbled into one and caused it and two partitions nearby to come apart.

So while it COULD be faked, maybe, I'm inclined to say it's real.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Street Fighter IV Trailer Features New, Classic Characters, Grating Voice Over]]> I dunno, my guess is everyone who can't stand the announcer apparently didn't play any of the HALF MILLION OTHER Street Fighter games. *shrug* I'm betting it's a compilation of all the 'announcer comments' in the game. Personally? I tend to let it be background noise and concentrate on the game itself :)

They seem to have (overall) fixed Ryu so he doesn't look like a mongoloid as much, and Vega's FUCKING SWEET, and Chun Li kicks as much ass as she always did, so this game is definitely a MUST BUY for me.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on New Hulk Pictures Prove James Cameron's CGI Criticisms Were Right]]> Bah, my only serious gripe with the Ang Lee hulk (as far as the technique used to create him) was that 90% of the movie was set at night, which seemed to me a cheap way of fudging the graphics (a complaint I squarely aim at the American "Godzilla" abomination as well, though in all fairness NOTHING could have saved THAT movie). The parts where the Hulk was in the desert looked pretty damn sweet... it was the PAINFULLY SLOW STORY that killed it for me (and Jennifer Connelly > Liv Tyler. for the record :P)

I DO feel this Hulk looks 100x 'faker' and by far more rubbery than the Ang Lee one - doesn't mean I won't see the movie though *shrug* :D

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on First Look At Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom]]> @mind in rewind:
Technically it's "Science Ninja Team: Gatchaman", that's the name of the show in Japan. It was brought over here by Sandy Frank in the late 70s, originally with just some weird re-edits then they added an R2D2 clone after Star Wars came out and gave it a more 'space adventure' re-working (originally Gatchaman took place almost exclusively on Earth).

This show, along with the Galaxy Express anime (with the occasional appearance of Captain Harlock) defined what 'cool' was to me at an early age. Ah... the memories... *glee*

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on First Look At Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom]]> Gods above, too many children on these boards...

Tatsunoko is TEH WIN Peeplez! Gatchaman was so cool they butchered it for the American release (G-Force/Battle of the Planets/Eagle Riders) and it was STILL cooler than ANYTHING out during its day (Speed Racer is older, so it doesn't count as much LOL)

I got me a big ol fanboy chubbie at the mere THOUGHT of being able to play Eagle Ken in a fighter...

BRING THIS GAME TO AMERICA DAMNIT!

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Speed Racer is Rewardingly Weird, State-of-the-Art CGI Slapstick]]> Saw it TWICE this weekend. If you get the chance to see it in IMAX, go that route (the detail is AMAZING!)

Yes there are talky bits here and there, yes people chew the scenery a LOT in the movie, but that's what MAKES it Speed Racer! It held true to just about every aspect that made the show as much ridiculous over the top fun as it was back in my youth. From Pops being an ex-wrestling champ, to Spritle and Chim-Chim stowing away in the Mach 5, they remain both faithful to the source AND pushed the boundaries of what Speed Racer was all about... And OMG the fight scenes (both in and out of the cars)... Yes my retinas may be scarred for life now, but you know DAMN well it's going to be used to sell BluRay players when it comes out on BluRay... It makes Ultraviolet look pale and lifeless by comparison.

And for anyone who complains about those pesky laws of physics... remember the original cartoon had a robotic bird with a 1960's FILM CAMERA ON ITS BACK THAT WAS LARGER THAN IT WAS... and IT FLEW :D

And to those of you who feel Speed Racer was crap... well I can't fault you for having an opinion, despite how ridiculous that opinion is (sorry, but Speed Racer was a PHENOMENAL hit in the states, despite it's primitive animation), but it led to one of my all time favorite animations - GATCHAMAN (aka Battle of the Planets), a show SO PHENOMENALLY awesome that they could butcher it with 'kid friendly' cuts and a cheap R2D2 ripoff and the show STILL managed to be awesome (to kids back then).

So fuck the naysayers, GO SPEED RACER, GO!
Maha Go Go
Maha Go Go
Maha Go Go Goooooooooooooooooooooo!

But this movie has the BEST Stan Lee cameo, bar none!

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Video of Space Boomerang Is Exactly What You Expect]]> Having actually thrown boomerangs in my day, you'd just need to adjust the angle of attack (the angle at which you do the initial throw) to counteract the lack of gravity. A boomerang is thrown at a slant to give it enough lift to counteract gravity, whereas without that added lift the boomerang arcs too low. Gravity isn't required to make it work, it just changes the angle by which the aerodynamics work to maximum effect.

In short: You just toss the boomerang at a slightly different angle to account for the lack of gravity is all *shrug* Seems a simple enough concept to me.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Meet Bruce Banner's Nemesis In New Hulk Trailer]]> @goldfarb: Okay have to take umbrage at even the vaguest MENTION of Alba being in ANY way superior to ANY other actress... She's got a decent body, but the ONLY movie I've ever seen her 'act' in was Sin City, and thankfully her part in it was mercifully short.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Death Race's Postapocalyptic Road Rage Will Be Splattery, Silly]]> Meh, I dunno... <![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Cloverfield 2 May Have Some Familiar Faces]]> Oh... and for those of you who've seen the movie and need a good laugh, read the 'Cloverfield in 15 minutes' version here: [community.livejournal.com]
I nearly peed myself laughing reading it... and I LIKED the movie :D Friends who HATED it laughed their asses off too. ;)

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Cloverfield 2 May Have Some Familiar Faces]]> Meh, every complaint I hear about Cloverfield falls into one of two (sometimes both) categories:

1) ZOMG the shakycam makes the movie bad
and/or
2) The characters are dumb, and they do unrealistic things and people die and there's no closure (or explanation).

*sigh* People... this isn't a Godzilla movie... it's not about 'brave heroes defeating a monster'... its a movie about a bunch of NORMAL EVERYDAY FOLKS (ie- not that interesting really) people stuck in a situation NOBODY has ever faced, and how they try (unsuccessfully for the most part) to survive said situation. There's no third-person perspective, you are given about as much info as anyone else would be, to say "Oh I would NEVER do that" is pure speculation. How DO you react when a 50 story monster starts meandering down the streets of a major city? And lest we forget- when they TRIED to follow the 'smart' option (escape) the first of their merry band of twentysomethings DIED. At that point any expectation of rational thought is a bit presumptuous.

And I LIKED Hud, he kept the movie from sinking into a depressing snuff-fest.

Frankly I was impressed that the movie didn't slap on a happy ending, or explain everything to death. American cinema usually can't handle something where your hand isn't held every step of the way, and the 'heroes' don't actually WIN (and BOY do some of the reactions from the masses validate that!). Yay for there being something... DIFFERENT out there. :P

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Scifi And Kung-Fu: The Ultimate Team-Up]]> Oh Inframan... all the good memories of the insane weirdness that passed for Sci-Fi those days.

Just sayin...

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Guitar Hero IV To Feature A Slew Of Instruments]]> Okay GH3 has to be the FUGLIEST game in the series, the Aerosmith version is going to make an already butt ugly band even MORE hideous, the art direction of that game has gotten progressively worse since Harmonix left and the DLC for GH has been pitiful AT BEST.

Even WITH all the problems I've had with Rockband (mostly with the guitars) I GAVE AWAY my copy of GH3 because it just sucked SO badly. Even my nephews who are die-hard GH fans went over to Rockband because they felt GH has just gotten Awful. In all seriousness Activision, just keep beating your dead horse and stop trying to suck the life out of something GOOD in the world, k?
