Wait. A guy turns into a girl? And it's not Ranma!?

It's loading up (I'm really only interested in the 21 minute mark) so I haven't watched it yet.

I did play a game once as a were-magical girl (A manly Samuri who turned into a petete magical girl at night). That was amusing.

Ah, hadn't thought of that. Good point.

Still though, if the service provider went out of business (or just went down for a time) you wouldn't be able to get that DLC anyway.

But I'm not really into fighting games that much myself... those who are tell me that Smash Brothers is piss poor as far as fighting games go, but maybe that's why I like it... cause I'm such an amateur.

I've complained about this before too... But more than just the money, think of the history we stand to lose. What if Ubisoft goes out of buisness? The Prince of Persia DLC mentioned is only available from them, that means you wont be able to get it anymore at any price.

For the sake of laughs lets say you really loved PoP and wanted to share it with your kids in 20 years. You cant, cause Ubi isn't running the servers anymore. The end of the game is lost forever.

Not to mention any SKILL required to get the bonus content. When I unlocked all the characters in super smash brothers that was an achievement! And while I'm fine with having the option to buy Dr Mario (for those who can't be bothered to unlock him) I like having him as a reward for ... what was he rewarded for again? it's been a while. But it was like trophies or achievements... only better.

But just as far as the money goes... well, all the extra DLC has kept me from buying games before... like Dragon Age, Fallout 3, Disgaia 3. I roll my eyes at all that and say 'guys, when you are ready to release the game THEN I'll buy it'. I guess they just don't want my money. That's ok, there are lots of others who do.

As a 40k fan I'm glad THQ put Relic onto Dawn of War. Maybe it wasn't the best economic decision, maybe DoW is really only worthy of a second tier developer. But I got to enjoy awesome games.

Thank you THQ. You will be missed.

Yeah, and don't forget that these services won't be forever. What happens when your company of choice goes out of buisness? What if Steam doesn't exist in 10 years? You bought a game? Prove it, where's your disk?

And if the movie industry is anything to go by, in 50 or 100 years many of the games made today will be lost. Just plain gone. We didn't expect to have to upgrade them to holographic technology and didn't think that the sun flares and EMP pulses from our Sci-fi tech would wipe out our old digital media storage. No More Heroes just became a very ironicly named game.

And DLC: Lets say you really liked Enslaved, and now you want to play Pigsy's Perfect 10... Too bad for you, because it's the future! Ninja Theory went bust and MicroSonysoft got muscled out of the picture by Squaretendo's new Square-cube and Enix-boy 3D, nobody is running those DLC servers anymore.

Ah well... what's the chance that civilization is going to survive that long? It's likely that people 3000 years from now will be picking up the pieces wondering which stuff was fiction and which we thought was real from a bare fraction of our shattered disks. :D

It's ok. I like long comments. Though I did fall asleep there at the end (JK)
I can see both sides of the argument, and being a natural devil's advocate (AKA, argumentative brain weasel) I could argue that you're being too lenient on the TV piracy and THEN turn around and say you're missing a lot of point of the game piracy... But that would be kinda crazy even for me. Suffice it to say that it's complicated, and the loudest of both sides are acting like pestiferous howler monkeys.

And I get the impression that a lot of the people who are serious about hating DRM DO buy the product and then get the pirated version. I myself tend to just avoid the product altogether, there are plenty more things out there to watch or play. If the devs start making it harder for me to get their stuff then screw em, someone else will want my money.

I usually come down fairly anti piracy, but the other day I realized I had seen the Madoka Magica anime twice already. There was a fairly good article relating piracy and anime on Kotaku the other day... But I do wonder if the problems might be at least partially negated with more speedy localization.

I'm getting all sorts of mixed signals from this: "Lucky for us, there are plenty of alternatives to Megaupload." which says (to me anyway) that the service they provide (piracy?) is good. A few sentances later "... destroy a copyright villain..."

So do you like Megauploads (and those rivals that we are so lucky to have)? or are they villains?

"Do you hear that, lawmakers? The law, as it stands right now was able to kill Megaupload.com, no draconian censorship powers required." Yeah! We don't need SOPA... "except for the dozens of Megaupload rivals like HulkShare and MediaFire." (hint: here's someplace you can go for your piracy needs now that megauploads is gone. wink wink)

So are you saying that the laws are fine now? the first statement indicates so... or that we need something better (like SOPA for example) because it's just not doing the job?

Was this article written by committee? Or are you, Sam Biddle, a chat bot?

(note- this was written with humor in mind and I wish no offense to anyone, certainly not to Sam)

You don't need to CALL it slavery, you just need to make sure that the economic realities keep them (for the most part) in a lower social strata.
Is this the American release of Yakuza: The End? I understand THAT was about zombies in the Yakuza games... and so is this.
I see, so I wont need HL2 in order to play it... I guess that kinda eliminates the need for HL2 because Stanley Parable doesn't seem enough to justify a purchase on it's own (and also, again, I wouldn't know where to find it if not on steam)

Thank you for your help.

Heh, that's a funny vid. I wonder what happens to Stanley if he goes the right way.

Anyway, I did find Dear Esther on Steam, so I'm sure they do HL2 mods, but the requirements dont list HL2 as something needed to play the game. An error? or can you play some without HL2? Another one I was interested in was called The Ball. or something.

Indeed that's it! There may have been more, but I'm not really sure.

I went onto steam and searched for it. I could not find it, is it maybe called something else? or does one go to another place entirely for halflife 2 games? I wonder if it's available on the PSN.

I remember there was another nice looking HL2 mod, I think it was a horror mod? or about choosing paths? Not sure... I didn't get it because I didn't have HL2 on PC. But I'm thinking of getting HL2 just for the extra games ... like Dear Esther.

Can anyone give some suggestions? Or tell me which game it was I was thinking of?

Not all Kotaku Commenters suck. But some of us do. I do. :P
I see they left quite a few games off... which is ok I guess, there are LOTS of games. But The Path needs to be on the Survival horror side. Also 'Survival Action' covers most games. Like Call of Duty or Halo, you want to survive... and it's action. I think 'Action Horror' would be a better name.
I actually considered taking note of how the 2 hypothetical houses were otherwise identical, but I figured that given the topic at hand it would be a redundant statement. I figured that brevity had value and you would understand me. Ah well, my bad. And I'm not really sure where you're going with the tomato and buying blindly thing. Part of me wonders if you're serious, another part of me thinks that you're trying to bait me.

But yeah, I do kinda miss the simple days when you could buy a game and just put it in and it would work. You buy Super Mario Brothers and there it is, in your hand. Now... so much stuff is released unfinished and buggy, with pieces of the story or cars left off for DLC, or as exclusive content from one source or another. I just miss the feeling of something being a complete product, and there are still some that are, but the trend is foul to my tastes. And yeah, there were similar things back in the day: Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo Edition. And I rolled my eyes at that too, though I understand there are a lot of people who enjoy that sort of thing. #speakup

Exactly, it's just so darn easy to be lazy. If two games are perceived to be of equal value, A and B, why would I buy game A if it's harder to buy, more buggy, and/or more expensive? Why should you buy a house if you need to clean it up if the one right next to it is the same price and already clean? Or the car? Or the food? Of course the food is a bit different, because cooking is fun, but still lots of people buy a jar of tomato sauce rather than making their own.

Actually the cooking comparison is a fairly good (though not perfect) analogy now that I think of it. You can buy canned chili or buy the beef, beans, and everything else separately. #speakup

Why you make it so damn hard to give you money?

I'm not stupid, but with so many things competing for my time and money I can be extremely lazy. So what if I want your game? I want 20 others too... and I do NOT want to have to go looking for information about what edition comes with what, worry about when the bugs will be patched, and have to buy add-ons for the whole experience. I want a full and complete product.

Could I be just a whinny ass with serious 'Gamer entitlement' issues? yeah, maybe. But with so many games it's a buyer's market, and anything that distracts me from your product might lose a sale.

But the thing is: I WANT the game. And while I am value and sale conscious, I want to give you money.

So here's Dues Ex Human Revolution ... Augmented edition. What is it? It's 72% off, whatever it is. It's a digital download? What the hell is up with you guys? Aren't special editions supposed to be boxed with extras for the fans? A poster, art book, maybe T shirt? A digital download indicates that there's extras to the actual product (the game) rather than the collectable stuff (which I do love). So what, does it come with extra missions and the DLC pack? Or is it just a few extra multiplayer skins?

You know what? Screw it. it's not worth it, not worth my time to sort through your BS. Not with so many other things competing for my Skyrim... I mean, attention. Maybe if you get your stuff together I'll see about picking up a GOTY, complete, or ultimate edition. Peace out Eidos.

(yes, I realize that I could have found the answers to all my questions if I had put half the time into looking as I put into this rant, but it's not about Eidos and Human Revolution. It's a trend that's been growing and keeping me from buying games I otherwise would have.) #speakup

Ah, Grim Fandango... and I still haven't played it. I got a copy a while ago but it turns out making it work on a (at the time) modern PC is troublesome. But this list did remind me I still want to play it... *checks steam* Hmm, where does Lucusarts sell their stuff nowadays?
I don't think I've ever heard any other argument quite so convincing for why I shouldn't play Kingdom Hearts.
