I remember. Kotaku, Gamespot, GAF...they're a relatively closed environment. Gerstmann VS Ubisoft didn't drive sales for Kane & Lynch. Kane & Lynch being advertised all over the place helped sales. Much the same can be said for Assassin's Creed. Got less than desirable reviews but heavily advertised in a multitude of different media and it sold quite well.
Pulling ads from Kotaku wouldn't hurt, nor hinder sales IMO. The people that hate the game are already decided (and here on Kotaku in droves), and the people that are going to buy the game are also decided.
Advertising on Kotaku.com isn't going to change much of that.
Putting up a title on an article that implies the success of a town is riding on Too Human? That's some bullshit right there and only a dimwit would write it and think it wouldn't be misinterpreted.
Crecente's no dimwit. Which makes me think he just wanted to rattle the cage and take a jab at Dyack which right now isn't necessary.
There is no such thing as bad publicity. "
Denis is just crazy enough to do just that. I doubt it will happen but they certainly don't seem to be scared of "the big dog". They/Denis have/has gone after Epic. NeoGAF. Pulling advertising funding from Kotaku wouldn't be a huge surprise.
Dyack also seems to place no small amount of value on what is thrown about on forums and websites so he might just think that the old axiom is just that; OLD and not necessarily the most applicable to video games on gaming forums.
I'm not in the type of industry that involves the management of two departments that could be diametrically opposed to one another so I really can't say what the best course of action is.
I KNOW I don't like it. That's about all I can say about that.
Atleast you see where I'm coming from, which is a tiny win.
As for the decision of editing their adveritsing based on their tastes, or edit their tastes based on their advertising?
You know where I stand, and I really don't think it would hurt a site like Kotaku as I'd be surprised if they DIDN'T have developers and publishers lined up for advertising.
Continue to call me out.
That's fine. I don't need to defend Dyack because that quite simply is a losing battle but the bullshit that people simply type out is insane.
However let's discuss this whole "journalistic integrity" thing.
Clearly you don't see a problem with the fact that the site can on one hand hold up a "LULZ Denis Dyack and Too Human- Gaming's Comedic Bullseye Redux" and then with the other hand hold up a sign with "Hey! This Too Human game...You should buy it!"
It's a bit much.
What I may or may not have (or should have) implied is that there are most likely a number of games out there lining up for advertising so if Kotaku really wants to do what they can to stir up more bullshit about it, maybe there are better advertising choices than giving Too Human three banner ads on the home page?
If Crecente wants to throw out more flames and pass it off as an article the day before the game launches. So be it. Having "Kotaku - Brought To You Today By Too Human" at the same time they're putting up articles like that just seems shitty.
Crecente's not exactly "new" to this whole "gaming thing".
You really think he didn't expect this?
How exactly do you think his spin was going to be taken by the frothing-at-the-mouth horde?
And it's people like you that encourage sites to continue with nonsense like that.
And I'm not trying to "retroactive edit". However I'm sure that being able to contribute to the hate-campaign by the mediocre majority is incredibly fulfilling for you so carry on with your attempts to thrill and amuse.
He's not holier-than-thou. He just so happens to have spent WAY too much time in a post-secondary educational environment. Anyone who has friends (or a wife) that has spent a great deal of time in university will understand the type of individual that Dyack is.
Hearing him talk on the "Full Moon Podcast", it all came together for me. He's just really passionate about what interests him and unfortunately what interests him isn't exactly what a large number of people enjoy talking about.
That and he has an umodified Charisma Score of 4. The guy could be handing out hundred dollar bills to hobos and someone would still want to punch him in the face.
I never said that. Quite the opposite actually. If you're going to take so much pleasure in trying to shit-can a dev and the game they created...there's plenty of other games out there that want/need advertising.
Having a star next to your name does not equate to your logic being air tight.
Carry on.
St. Catherines is a relatively small city/large town. (150,000 people give or take)
If Silicon Knights DOES have 163 people currently working for them, that's a sizable number of people when compared to St. Catherine's population which was primarily a "factory town" and is now a hot bed for call centres.
As nice as it would be for Dyack to shut up and go back to developing games and stop giving more reason for the fanboys to talk more shit and then jerk off over one another...
Articles like this only encourage the very worst of the people that comment on this site to write something "clever/4w350m3" and impress their dippy little friends/followers.
And review scores don't mean shit in the overall scheme. You can quote articles until your eyes bleed that say otherwise but the majority of consumers do not read reviews.
It will sell well, or it won't. The reviews don't mean much and articles like this only serve to show that Kotaku is the furthest thing from unbiased journalism.
You can't just divide people into winners and losers.
"
Yes you can. Current western society is too weak/scared/mediocre to commit to making such decisions.
Those two are scum and I sincerely hope they have no small amount of tragedy in their lives and are routinely subjected to things they find impossible to enjoy or endure.
Some things shouldn't be forgiven.
Then you could count me among the "caring".
No...but the people who vote for G-phoria are without a doubt.
@PapaBear434: "I hate Halo because it's overrated and highly mediocre."
Hate is a strong word. If through some miracle/tragedy it was declared that the only game available to be played for the rest of time was Halo 3...things wouldn't be that bad. Halo 3 is a fine game. It was definitely top five last year, but no way Game of the Year. Don't hate the game because of it's rampant idiot-fuck fanbase.
How about just adding the letter "D" where a star appears now.
The D can represent
"disemvoweling"
or
"dunce"
or...
"douche"
