I'm 33 years old, with a family and two kids. I don't have a bunch of friends coming over to play X-Box every weekend and want to wow them with the color of my console. If all of them are the same inside, who cares what color it is. Different console paint jobs, face plates, factory colors... no thanks. (My N64 is the gray one.)

I do agree with juliopalio above though. Different color WiiMotes would be nice. Like the different colored N64 controllers, it would be nice to have different colors for the different players. It would also be nice if the color of the WiiMote showed up on the screen, too. You know, if you have a green remote, your little hand cursor showed up green. That way, in case someone forgets, they don't have to ask, "Who was number 4?" They can just see a red hand, look for the red remote, and they know. Sorry, random idea rambling...

Hand Helds make more sense to me as far as having different colors, because they are meant to be taken out in public and will be seen. Might as well have one that looks nice or is different in some way.

But that's just me...

Eltigro commented on Your Game Consoles Have Hazardous Chemicals! As others have said, good thing I don't plan on eating any of my electronics. Although I do have a TurboGrafx-16 controller that has some teeth marks on it, any idea what's in those?

My plan is to open up all my consoles and stuff them with granola, humus, Birkenstocks, spotted owls, baby seals, and gray whales. Let's see Greenpeace complain about what's in my console, then!

@lost_in_hollywood: I also have several old (not-disposed-of-in-a-landfill) consoles hooked up in my house. (12 hooked up and useable, 1 useable not hooked up, and 2 broken) I ain't throwing away anything!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to find out where I can buy some baby seals...

90% of the player characters in the game will be male.

Prediction:

Of all the time spent in character creation, 90% of it will be creating females.

Moral: Although most players will be male and want male characters, they will spend about 10 minutes creating their male character and about an hour and a half looking at boobs.

I just keep having flashbacks to the movie "Weird Science."

Eltigro commented on Gaming Into Adulthood I've got two kids and game as much as I can. I have pictures of my daughter holding an NES controller. When I'm playing a game on my Wii, I give her one of the Wavebirds to "help" me. When my son was born, I had the laptop at the hospital checking Kotaku. I even sent a picture of the newborn sitting next to my laptop with Kotaku on it to Crecente.

I game when I can. I stay up after everyone else goes to bed for a few minutes. I game at their nap time. Just grabbing a few minutes here and there. It's probably why my gaming has shifted more towards Shmups and less to games like Zelda or RPG's. Shmups require far less time for a quick fix.

Eltigro commented on The Refractory Period I have lots of games like this.

I have never finished a Legend of Zelda game because of this. I get to a point where I'm kinda bored with the game, so I stop playing for a week or two. Then, when I pick it back up, I don't remember what items I gotten already, what quests I'm working on or what the next step was... I usually end up just starting a new game from scratch. Then the same thing happens again. I get bored, stop playing...

I've probably started Ocarina of Time about five different times. Just can't stick with it.

Eltigro commented on The Difficulty of (Games') Difficulty There are several games that walk a fine line with me. I like a game that I can beat if I practice and work on it for a while. I like it if I have trouble beating it again if I don't play it for a while. I like a game that has a gradual difficulty curve, and that I get better at (on average) the more I play. Many Shmups are like this. Gate of Thunder is an excellent example. I seem to get a little better each time I play, so it keeps me coming back even though I still haven't beaten it.

I agree that there is a problem with difficulty spikes. Especially if the spike is an area that must be completed or passed to continue with the game. There is a part in Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance for the GBA that I cannot get past. Cruised along pretty well, enjoying the game until I got to that one room, and I have navigate a room faster than a large iron ball. If I beat the ball, I get the items I need to continue, if I don't, I have to try again. I cannot seem to get there faster than the ball after probably hundreds of tries and as a result, I gave up on the game. Haven't played it in over a year. Can't get past that, can't go any farther, the game might as well be over.

But I like difficulty spikes if they are not necessary to continue the game. The challenge comets in Super Mario Galaxy are an example of this. If I can't get the star on a comet level, it's okay, there's other levels I can go and complete. I can come back to the comet and try again later if I feel like it. A difficulty spike does not end the game in this case.

Although I knew it was Mario, I couldn't figure out why he was S.

G could have been many things: Galaga, Galaxian, Gyruss, Gradius (my guess)

Eltigro commented on Get Your Portal Beer Stein Oh. My. God.

I'm now daydreaming about how wonderful this would be to actually have portals like this in bars. If the tender does exactly as the illustration depicts...

...processing...

No sir, I don't like it.

1. I don't want the bartender/barkeep filling up the same mug I just drank out of, I want a new frosty one.

2. The mug isn't angled, I'm predicting a lot of foam and not enough beer.

3. A portal like this would be a reason to cut out the middleman. Namely, the waitress. I like the waitresses.

A definite positive would be employing the portals to allow for fewer trips to the urinal... But that leaves the question of, how do you sanitize a portal?

Eltigro commented on What Game Makes You Pull Your Hair Out? Most sports games when you play against the cheating CPU. Goalies that never let anything through. Fielders that are always right under the ball.

Also, the part in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance for the GBA where you have to race through a room and get to a certain part of a room before a giant rolling ball blocks your path. I've probably tried to get past that room about 200 times. Using just about every time saving, speed-increasing strategy I can think of. My inability to get past this one room has resulted in my giving up the game. I haven't played it in over a year.

There is a place in Metroid Fusion that is very similar where the bad Samus is chasing you. I always die.

These two instances are frustrating because it is like hitting a wall. I was doing fine progressing through the games and suddenly there's that one part that seems impossible.

I know there are other games. I specifically remember throwing controllers at my PS1. And I have tooth marks in one of my TurboGrafx controllers as physical evidence of frustration with games there. But, perhaps, like someone who experiences a traumatic event, I have blocked the details from my memory.

Eltigro commented on NES Redesign Is All Kinds Of Hot Shit I like it.

I like the red.

The controllers are okay. I'm sure they aren't comfortable but the original controllers weren't either.

I've seen some people dissing the top-loader NES. Why? It's still an NES. So what if it isn't the finicky, flashing front loader. I have one of each. The top loader works like a charm. The front loader is leaned against the wall (along with a Master System) and no longer works.

I had the flashing screen. Ordered the pin connector to repair it. While waiting on the connector to be delivered, one of the cats decided to pee on the NES. I get the connector and realize the feline urine issue. Take it apart, clean it up the best I can, replace the connector, put it all back together... and it still won't work.

I'm hoping the controllers are wireless, they need to be changed to the dogbone controllers that came with the top loader.

Eltigro commented on SR-388: The Bigger, Badder, Not A Metroid II Remake Fan Project It does look a lot like Super Metroid... but is that a bad thing? NO.

It also reminded me of the GBA Metroid games. I think it looked great in a retro way...

*random thought warning*

I was thinking about how Bionic Commando was remade for XBLA, and was thinking they should do a remake of an old Metroid game. But, being a Nintendo property and not a third party, it would never be on the X-Box, it would have to be on the Wii. So I thought, fine, remake the original 8-bit Metroid and put it out for Wii Ware. But then, the original Metroid is already emulated on Virtual Console. So why would they essentially have the same game, twice? So, it will never happen. Bastards. Why couldn't I live in some odd parallel universe where Metroid was made by Capcom or something. But then, if it were made by Capcom, it probably would have been a 2-D fighter and there'd be games like Metroid vs. Marvel or something and since I hate 2-D fighters, I would never have played Metroid. And in that weird parallel universe I would probably be lamenting the fact that there would never be a updated remake of Bubsy or some other crap. So parallel universes suck, too. Damn you Stephen Hawking.

*random stream of consciousness thoughts end*

Got split up from my friend about half way through the concert and didn't see him again until I got to my truck and he was laying in the back.

I had to deal with about four or five kids asking me if I had seen Iron Man yet (I'm a teacher). They all know I want to see it because I have an Iron Man background on my computer. All of them wanted to tell me about it.
